So Luke and Vader are Rey's parents now? Or what do you want to tell us? That she is a new chosen one or something like that?

Believe me it's not a good idea to try to connect the dots with old movies and new ones.

    I tried too :D

Why Kylo telling this to Rey makes so much sense and why Abrams won't retcon it in Episode 9.

I told you about strawberry fields
You know the place where nothing is real
Well here's another place you can go
    Where everything flows.
    Looking through the bent-backed tulips
To see how the other half live
    Looking through a glass onion.
I told you about the walrus and me, man
You know we're as close as can be, man
Well here's another clue for you all
    The walrus was Paul.
Standing on the cast iron shore, yeah
Lady Madonna trying to make ends meet, yeah
    Looking through the glass onion
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
    Looking through the glass onion.
I told you about the fool on the hill
I tell you man he's living there still
Well here's another place you can be
    Listen to me.
Fixing a hole in the ocean
Trying to make a dove-tail joint, yeah
    Looking through a glass onion.

Shortly after the Endor Luke has found Star Compass once owned by Palpatine.
By it and the help of LST he found forgotten planet with the village of people who preserved original knowledge about the Force , predating Jedi and the Sith.
On that planet he saved a young girl, which created life bond between them.
Years later this women traveled and found Luke.
    Love happened between them.
Luke started to train the Jedi, because of Leia's plea to save her son, but the woman was aginst it, she returned to her planet.
Luke trained Jedi and Ben for almost 5 years.Only LST knew the location of the training camp.
Snoke used Ben to disrupt the Luke's power, together they seeked for Luke's knowledge and found about the secret planet.
After the mutiny Kylo Ren and KOR headed to that planet. They wiped out entire village, including the women Luke loved. The one single villager, a child , was spared by Kylo Ren .
Luke catched them. Luke killed all KOR there.Kylo escaped.
LST tracked Luke, found about calamity, and found a child for which he knew was special like all her people.
Luke lost everything, and felt destroying everything, got mad and self-exiled.
LST settled on Jakku, protected special child by isolation, spending the rest of his life in searching for Luke.

Even, if she is somehow tied to the old trilogy, it would bring nothing to the story because they are all dead so they would have miss the opportunity to make it emotionnal.

Luke found his own father to late ,and Anakin found his son to late, jet it was emotional ( most emotional thing in Star Wars).
Besides, Luke is just dead from certain point of view.( anyone sough Mike Hamill removed his beard?)

And Luke has danced with his daughter why still in his body at least.:D(novel)

    Prequel trilogy was Anakin's
    Central trilogy- Luke's
Sequel trilogy- Rey's (that strong woman)

(...Collin Was fired from the project, but basic trilogy script including for The Last Jedi must have been already set when he was saying this about Rey...), and it seems not just like what Kylo Ren says about her.

    From TLJ novel

    " Prologue.

Luke Skywalker stood in the cooling sands of Tatooine, his wife by his side.
    ...............................................

    There'd never been children

    - a pain that had dulled to an ache they no longer admitted feeling

    - but they'd worked hard and done well, building a comfortable life as one could on Tatooine.
    ...............................................

Luke woke..".that was no ordinary dream, and you know it"
    ..............................................

Luke raised the hood of his jacket with his mechanical hand, stroking his beard with the flesh-and blood one.
He wanted to argue with himself, but he knew better.

The Force was at work here-it had cloaked itself in a dream, to slip to defenses he'd thrown up against it.

But was the dream a promise? A warning? Or both?

    Things about to change.

    Something's coming."

For me this whole prologue was just there to show that Luke definitely doesn't have a woman. Think about it. They would never reveal something crucial like this in a novel but in the movie (which is more canon).

This prologue shows that Luke is uncertain whether he choosed the right path or not. He could have become a father and live happy with his family. But no, he decided to become a Jedi.

It's the same reason why in TFA, both Poe and Rey say "hi" but in the film they actually don't.

Dream tells us that Luke Skywalker was not immune to women,he was a man, able to love woman, and to expect to have children to,to be a father. (In dream destiny gives him wife, peacefull life, but no children, which was a pain...a..pain for him!)
    This is now a canon.

    Think about this:
They needed to say this fact about Luke for a reason.
It would be difficult to show this in ep.VIII.

Also, this makes Luke's destiny even more sad,if there was not actually a fulfilment of something of it,something even Luke was clueless about.

    Something.....That is coming.

And reminder once more...his dream is not the ordinary dream, but a result of the Force trying to reach him.

    Truth:
Luke was never married, never had peacefull life, but had a (tragic)love, and is father of a child .

This is probably the tough post to comprehend jet I am willing to share my thoughts if someone is willing to read it .
This entire movie is not what it seems, especially about relation between Rey and Luke.

Full conversation between Yoda and Luke:

    L: Master Yoda.
    Y: Young Skywalker.
L: I'm ending all of this. The tree, the text, the Jedi.I'm gonna burn it down.
    Y: Ah, Skywalker.Missed you, have I.
L: So it is time for the Jedi Order to end.
Y: Time it is.For you to look past a pile of old books, hmm?
    L: The sacred Jedi texts.
Y: Oh. Read them, have you?Page-turners they were not.Yes, yes, yes.Wisdom they held, but that library contained nothing that the girl Rey does not already possess.Skywalker, still looking to the horizon.Never here, now, hmm?The need in front of your nose.
    L: I was weak.Unwise.
Y: Lost Ben Solo, you did.Lose Rey, we must not.
L: I can't bewhat she needs me to be.
Y: Heeded my words not, did you?Pass on what you have learned.Strength, mastery. But weakness, folly, failure also.Yes, failure most of all.The greatest teacher, failure is.Luke,we are what they grow beyond. That is the true burden of all masters.

    ..........................................................
    my thoughts:

In this scene Yoda talks about actually just one thing,a person. And he is there because of that person.

    Rey.

    Yoda says to Luke:

" ...library contained nothing that the girl Rey does not already possess"

That is actually the strangest sentence in the film to me.

Because its impossible that Rey posesses all that is in those books.
So Rey is not possesing knowledge of those books.Besides she took them.
What is the meaning of those Yoda's words actually than?

Rey possess something that is valuable above all, but is not in those books.

Yoda presses the Luke's shortsighted obsession with the books, and neglecting Rey.

"Time it is.For you to look past a pile of old books, hmm?"

Yoda points on Luke's nose, showing he omited to see something in front of his nose..obviously again its about Rey.

"The need in front of your nose."

Luke than says: " I can't be what she needs me to be"

Yoda than says:"Heeded my words not, did you?"
    .........................................................................................

Yoda's language is strange everytime. I think the meaning of Yoda's words are actually this:

"Library contained nothing that the girl Rey is"

Meaning to say, It is important who girl Rey actually is, and that question is of utmost importance to Luke, who does not see it...

He obviously sough it at the very end though,in the Force.

They spent half of the movie on the plot who are Rey's parents. First, it leads close to nowhere and if moreover it isn't the good answer then what are they doing ?

Spending more time in the next movie about the same issue for a different outcome would be a total lack of creativity which is not impossible.

The issue of Rey parents remained not because of us, but because the way film (TLJ) is made.

They left more than enough space for speculation since it could be very likely dark side that is clouding everything.
There could have been better ways to solve this undoubtedly in the film, if they wanted to be solved undoubtedly.

People are still expecting confirmation of 2 drunkards , or disolution of that .In fact that 2 drunkars showed to be provocative act (intentionally or by accident)to make us even more hungry to get final ( undoubful) answer.
Its already set to be agenda even in ep IX by this.

There on reddit today again talk how J.J. Abrams may had different view about Rey's parents than shown in TLJ. And Rian Johnson sad the question is not absolutely solved already because he is not dirrecting ep IX.

So they are potentiating this question, whatever the truth be.

Though, in my posts it could be seen that they, dirrected by great Rian Johnson actually made perfect cloak in the TLJ, perfect aestetic artistic subversion about Rey's origin, anti-climax.(OP)

JJ might have a different view but the answer was made by a dude who decided to burn it all.

That's Disney's choice. Kill our heroes and bring us to a space twilight filled with Marvel jokes.

We talked about that with FN on another thread, there's no more jedi things, no more Skywalker, no more padawans, it's a force superheroes story with no explanations just rabbits coming through a hat appearing and disappearing at will.

There will be no more explanations about this, they washed their hands about old fans, this movie isn't for adults, it's just for kids to make them buy BB8 toys and get to the asian market ( which they failed to ).

Hence you got it, you just give up.

You are searching where there's nothing to find, this isn't a masterpiece, it's just a terrible story with nothing to rely on but cinders.

You will be disappointed again in Ep IX.

But they even didn't killed it properly because, there you see in OP..this is Anakin and Luke.( I guarantee,in the dark cave to the left is a shadow of exact movement of Luke on Cloud City--defining moment of saga.).

Hardly so much effort and subtleties put in the film for kids, don't you think?

In the Dark cave in ep VIII, shadow that Rey sees to the left is a Luke's shadow, from scene of him walking on Bespin before final confrontation with Vader..I analysed it and I am sure.
I am posting at the start in video below I marked (2 min 50s)

Coincidence ..that is also the start of Rey's vision in Maz castle, ep VII.

Where Luke has lost his right hand, a symbol of Skywalker.

Star Wars has ALWAYS been for kids. How the heck do you explain the Ewoks in ROTJ? Or even Jar Jar from the prequels? The first time we see Yoda? This Marvel humor stuff, honestly the humor is no different then Lucas' humor. As someone who's actually seen the Marvel movies, I don't see that argument at all.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE SEE YODA:

I know but I really don't think so. They killed Luke like if he was a tool, this is telling a lot to what they're doing.

@Old News dude : It is like a private conversation. I feel just sorry for such a passionate fan.
