    In my opinion, Rey is like Matilda - from her special talents to her horrible parents. I imagine that her parents were pretty selfish people. They may not always have been like that and Jakku may have broken them and turned them to drink. Understandable. I think Rey was likely a burden on them as well - an extra mouth to feed.

    It may be that they weren’t so bad and Kylo misinteretated what he saw - maybe they drank themselves to death after having to leave their daughter? It might just be that they left her with Plutt because they knew then she’d live.

    But really, I just think they were selfish people (which chimes with the original notion that some people suggested here back in dec 2015 that she came from “the dark side”). I think they saw that they could get a buck from their daughter and sold her to Plutt. Maybe they owed Plutt money? Again, I just think that they were drunks that sold Rey because of their habit and then later died and were buried in a paupers grave.

    The story surprised me (them not caring about Rey) because of the “I’ll come back for you sweetheart” line in the novel. I always thought that was sincere and someone planned to come back for her. The shocking truth is that this was either just in Rey’s head or that the father said this to her as a trick. He lied to keep her quiet and then left. It’s a horrible story. And if Rey’s new family ever reject her for some reason *cough* ReyBen connection *cough*, then this whole issue might crop up again for Rey and cause her great conflict.

    Ok & in what context does he tell them that she is his niece i.e are they threatening her after all the stuff she does to them & he tells them this so they leave her alone is is it completely random.

    Either way I'm more then willing to put another large bet in the Cantina that Rey is not a SOLO.

    Yeah, I'm guessing it's a white lie, because the Caretakers don't like her. Also, they wouldn't reveal that kind of information in a book.

    That's because it's not true. Luke tells the Caretakers that Rey is his niece so they wouldn't bother her... At least, that's the impression I've got from seeing the posts. Luke was lying, or joking. He wasn't telling the truth! Haha.

    Likewise, he isn't married either. That was a dream (daydream?) of what his life could have been.

    Intriguing teasing though with most intimate details, he is a Master Jedi jet he desires a family life, or at least thinks about it.

    I can't wait to read this book, its obviously made in provocative manner.(in positive sense).

    It was made pretty clear in the film that Luke and Rey have no idea who the other is. As much as I initially wanted Rey to be a Solo, even if there is still a possibility, Luke telling the Caretakers of all people that she’s his niece is far from confirmation of her identity. Besides, like others have said, a detail that major would not be disclosed in a book (and again, if Luke is aware of something like that, why would he tell the Caretakers and no one else?).
