Jakku is super important in the Aftermath series. It wouldn't surprise me if something is hidden there and Rey has to go find it.

Sounds like a video game I played once. The secret was where my charterer had been living the whole time before their adventure started!

I agree with this after seeing how it was made important in the Aftermath books that harping on "why does everybody want to go back to Jakku" will definetely turn out symbolic. Actually it already sort of is. The observatory on Jakku led Sloane and the Hux's out into the unknown regions and Rey ended up being on Jakku too. I think the ST is sort of born from Jakku in more than one way.

Breath of Fire II. My orphaned hero's own mother who was a dragon had been guarding the cave where the final battle took place. He reunited with his sister there. It was a cave behind the village where he played as a child.

Not to be confused with Breath of the Wild.

Yeah some ancient Sith or Jedi blast is probably hidden there which is why Sheev was interested in it.

Yeah I love JRPG's and also currently play BioWare games. My Consular's story in SWTOR has got to be the closest thing to where this movie is heading.

Not quite since that story does have siblings in it. The evil brother turns good and the sister goes darker. Some people seem to think Rey might go dark. I don't think they are blood siblings, but we could see Kylo become more light and Rey become more dark, their roles switching and the bond between them (that could be like family) saves her.

I'm against that thinking since this is Disney we are talking about. I doubt they will make their precious main female lead into a dark character. I've said this before but I want Rey to stay good and be our hero and keep Kylo dark to be our evil villain. I know it's tropey and cliche but I think it's needed in this day and age. No more gray characters.

The "In the gray area" character has kind of become overused in the last few years especially in Marvel movies. Deadpool, Loki etc. I'm ok with Kylo being conflicted and questioning himself but I don't really care to see him fighting between sides. Either turn or don't.

Since this is Disney and about family, chances are Kylo will be redeemed and a greater threat will be the true villain (Snoke).

Let's assume that Leia does not recognize Rey and that their hug is solely them bonding over the loss of Han. Something makes Leia gravitate to Rey, and she admits in the novel that she has complete confidence that sending Rey to find Luke is what is right. Even if she doesn't know who Rey is, once she sees Rey, I think something clicks. Even if she's not like, "Oh my God, I know who you are!" I think she senses something about her that prompts her to send Rey to Luke.

It's also worth noting that Luke apparently has no idea who she is or why she's there when she arrives on Ahch-To in The Last Jedi.

Perhaps none of the heroes knew about Rey (even though I think she's Luke's daughter) because perhaps Luke and Rey's mother were separated before he knew of the pregnancy. It would be no different than Vader interacting with Leia but never making the connection that she is his daughter until Return of the Jedi. If Luke and Leia never knew of Rey's existence, then they obviously wouldn't recognize her.

With that logic, God only knows who Rey's mother is. There is a theory (a bit far-fetched, but still worth paying attention to) that Phasma used to be a good character (Gwendoline Christie has made a comment that hinted at Phasma having the potential to switch sides) before becoming involved with the First Order, and that she may be Rey's mother. The evidence used for this theory is that she's supposedly present during the attack on Luke's Jedi Temple in the teaser for The Last Jedi, she lowers the shields on Starkiller Base with almost no argument, and she's the only other character in The Force Awakens (besides Hux) to speak in a British accent. (They told Daisy to keep hers for Rey but made John drop his accent for Finn.) Accents aren't hereditary, but if Rey grew up with Phasma (her presumed mother in this scenario) for the first few years of her life, she probably would've taken the accent, too.

I'm not suggesting Phasma is Rey's mother, but with a theory like that (which, to be honest, is more plausible than a lot of theories), essentially anyone could be Rey's mother, and we don't know the circumstances—who she was, why she left Luke if he is the father, etc. There's a lot of mystery surrounding that character and whoever the mother is, there is undoubtedly a lot of mystery surrounding her choice to abandon Rey. (Was it to protect her? Was she just an awful parent?)

I don't know. It's early in the morning, so that may not make a whole lot of sense right now, but it's just a few thoughts I had.

I'm with you on this much of it. Rey seems to just have a natural aura about her. She has like her own gravitational pull it seems.

Yeah, I just feel like Leia has more of an idea than anyone else about who Rey is. Maybe it's because she never trained with the Force and her usage of it is just what she can do naturally, which is sense things, and as a mother herself, she's got motherly intuition. Luke, on the other hand, is very out-of-the-loop, and if Leia can't even get him to come back, it's understandable that he would initially dismiss Rey. (And obviously Han is not Force sensitive and probably doesn't sense a whole lot, although he obviously thinks enough of her to offer her a job on the Falcon—which, Chewie kind of addresses at the end of The Force Awakens novel when he refuses to sit in the pilot's seat because it's hers now—and he mentions her to both Maz, who is curious to know who she is, and Leia.) Like you said, she has this sort of "gravitational pull" about her. Maybe it's just her insane and inexplicable abilities, but for whatever reason, most of the characters that have met her so far have been drawn to her for whatever reason and recognize that she's extremely important.

What I find a bit odd regarding Rey, is no one seems to know her, even someone all-seeing like Maz. It's like she only realized Rey was this "chosen one" after she touched Anakin's saber. Same as Ren saying "it is you" when she calls the saber to her during the snow fight. It's like no one cared who she was until she touched that saber.
