I am wondering does anyone know how many of these movies are going to be about the new trilogy? I mean like I know the movies are going to continue until 2030 but still I am curious how many of those are going to be about it

 

A New Hope wasn't finished until 34 years after it was released - so finishing a Star Wars movie three months ahead of time is pretty impressive.

 

Ya that is impressive and I bet in order to do that those editing guys must be working day and night

Or, if we used our collective memory, we will find that Rian was given more time, and didn't have to deal with Harrison Ford getting injured on set nor did he have to deal with all the special things that have at the start of development of a trilogy, such as casting your main characters, production pipeline details, etc.

If anything, Rian had it easy.

 

If Rian is sticking his neck out there in regards to Luke and the Force like word has it, I wouldn't say he has it "easy". He's got a lot riding on his decisions. However, I do agree that he has had an easier go the JJ did just due to the fact that JJ had 30 years of expectations on his shoulders. He had to not only sell us, but sell an entire new generation of fans. That had to have been ulcer-inducing.

 

Yep he got more time. Still a bit surprised to hear that they are done this early. More than likely some refinement is still going to happen in the vfx, but maybe not his tweet made it seem it was completely done. Side note always felt like JJ needed a bit more time in the edit for TFA.

 

I mean, let's not forget that the film was originally intended for May of this year and December: the production schedule in place for May was likely more or less abided to, apart from the key factor that the film would not be coming for another seven months.

Of course, Rian has taken his time given this seven month delay - which he absolutely should do - and probably spent more time focusing on getting everything right in principal photography as opposed to racking up the bills for LFL and demanding unnecessarily excessive reshoots for the film, and this is probably the reason why

Put it this way: principal photography ended for TFA in November 2014, 11 months out from release, and for TLJ it ended in July 2016, a whole 17 months out. Heck, John Williams saw a rough cut in August of last year for TLJ! Compare that to what JJ now has to do with IX and I think we'd be right to be a tiny bit worried: principal photography isn't supposed to begin until some point in summer 2018, and will likely end roughly around the same time in the year as TFA, meaning that Williams will, if he's going to be composing, likely finish recording just the month before (as with TFA) as opposed to potentially half a year before (as with TLJ).
