RUMOR: James Mangolds Boba Fett Movie Seeking 2020 Filming Start for 2021 Release

    A new report from Omega Underground explains that the rumored Boba Fett movie that will allegedly be directed by James Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma, Logan) is looking to film at Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom as usual for a Star Wars movie. However, it sounds like it won't be for a while.





    Currently, Mangold is preparing to direct Ford v. Ferrari, based on the famous 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans race for 20th Century Fox, which will film later this Summer and will be released next year. Omega Underground is speculating that the movie will target an Autumn release window in order to target the awards circuit, which would mean that Mangold would have his hands tied up until 2020. So from the sound of things, it will not be Lucasfilm's presumed 2020 Star Wars project, which is believed to be an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie from Stephen Daldry. Conventional wisdom tells us that the Boba Fett movie should be targeting a 2021 release window if it starts filming in 2020.



    It should still be noted, though, that neither project has been confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm, although The Hollywood Reporter backed up both of Omega Underground's claims that both projects are in development.

    Maybe not a terrible decision, but I'll miss it.

    From what I understand, this not a solid rumour (if a rumour can be solid...) but pure speculation based on Mangold's current commitments. It's possible, but I wouldn't take it too seriously for now. We can't even be sure that this film is happening.

    Personally, I don't want this to be true, because that would mean Rian's film would come out in 2022 and I wish it was 2021 (would love 2020, but I feel like that's unrealistic at this point).

    Yeah, I still think 2020 could be the year of Favreau's series with no movie. I would miss it too.

    Temuera Morrison will be playing Tom Curry (Aquaman's father) later this year. In an official photo we see young Aquaman, his mother and the back of Tom's head. To me it looks like they will be de-aging Temeura for a flashback. I hope it looks as good as Michael Douglas in Ant-Man and they are convinced to use a de-aged Temeura for any helmet-less Boba scenes. aquaman-nicolewithbaby.jpg
    If not the only new actor I can see as Boba would be Manu Bennett

    If they are planning on filming Favreau's show later this year (which it was reported) than I would expect a late 2019 release not 2020.

    People were asking for it in 2014 when Disney announce doing stand alone movies. why not make a movie that people seem to be asking for?

    Because Bobba Fett's appeal comes from seeing his cool armour as 6-8 year old. He is not a character that can carry a big-budget Hollywood movie. There are two ways to make this work - either give him a characterisation (and will most like lead to another "not why wanted/imagined" situation) or make a movie about something else, that would feature Bobba Fett. Like the idea about a bounty hunter team movie. But, after Solo underperforming, I find it hard to make something like worth making as a theatrical movie.
