This episode of Rebels features the introduction of a LONG TIME fan favorite character and judging by the title of the episode...it's not hard to figure out who that person is. Wedge Antilles. I was never a giant fan of the character, but Lord knows this guy carries massive "Legends street credibility" with him. Thus, the episode's importance to whet all those Rogue Squadron novel fan's appetites.

Could this episode whet my appetite even? Let's find out....

    SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    What worked for me:

    - Sabine
    sabine.jpg

I have been VERY critical of this character since season 1. Season 2 tried to get her more involved and expand on her backstory, but some of it felt hallow to me. Her Mandalorian heritage comes with a lot of expectations and it's been hit or miss at best. This episode shows us that Sabine is just as deadly without her Mandalorian armor and we see her personality shine a bit without the main cast around. Her fight scene with Governor Pryce was pretty rad if I do say so myself. If we continue to get character building episodes like this one?...Then we are in good hands.

    - Starships vs Starships
    IMG_2345.png

This episode starts off with a bang when a Rebels transport ship (I LOVE that design) escorted by A-Wings is attacked by a bunch of TIE Interceptors. The more starship dogfights the better, I say. We get to see all the Imperial TIE line in this episode. Fighters, Bombers etc. No sign of that sweet new TIE Striker from Rogue One though. Bummer.

    - Governor Pryce
    IMG_2351.png

We only heard her mentioned in the previous two seasons of Rebels and she came off like a throwaway name at most. We were introduced to her properly in the season opener and she came off like a bigger deal than I thought. In this episode? ....You don't want to mess with this lady. She's as calculated as any other Imperial I've seen and held her own against a Mandalorian warrior. As you can see from the still above...she's ready to torture some Rebels. Damn, that's hateful!

    - The animation (!)
    IMG_2347.png

Maybe it's just me, but this season's animation seems to have taken a step up. I don't think the animation has been bad per se in the previous seasons, but it's been popping out of whichever screen I watch the show on. Now, I realize that a show SHOULD improve it's look as it goes forward, but I think it needs to be noted, none the less. The movements of the characters and ships seem more...fluid? Maybe it's just me. Does anyone else notice this?

    What didn't work for me:

    - Emo Ezra
    IMG_2349.png

I like Ezra WAY more this season already than the previous seasons and I do like where the story is headed, but....when you mix brooding and whining together...it's brutal. I get that the show is showing how much of a loose canon this kid is. I do however need to remind myself that this show is aimed at kids and not adults like myself who come off like a spoiled child wanting Star Wars his way. I get it.

    Quick hitters:

    - Did I mention Wedge was in this episode?
    IMG_2350.png

It was cool seeing how Wedge came into the Rebellion, but it wasn't anything incredible. He honestly came off as an afterthought. Thus, he ended up in "Quick hitters".

    - It was funny that Hobbie from ESB made an appearance. Luke yells to him while flying his T-47. "HOBBIE! I"VE BEEN HIT!" and he is pictured below.
    Klivian-Derek-Hobbie.png

    - Is that R2Q5 from the Star Wars R2 Unit Salt and Pepper shaker set? It's all connected, indeed.
    IMG_2348.png

    - A new Fulcrum.
    IMG_2346.png

It's obvious who that person is....
    FullSizeRender.jpg

This season of Rebels is 3 for 3 with me. This was a fun episode and gave a lot for us Star Wars fans to chew on. Where does Kallus fit in? Is Wedge going to stick around for awhile? Hobbie too? Will Ezra whine himself into oblivion? I'm excited to find out!

Before I went into this episode, I thought maybe that this would be considered by some as a filler episode, and in the first 5 mins of the show I was feeling that this feels like just a throw away episode. But then the story unfolds and while it doesn't move along the overall arc of Ezra, it does move along the story or how the Rebel Alliance became strong enough to go head to head with the Empire. This episode, for me felt more of a fan service than any other episode in the series so far. The story of Wedge had always been one I didn't need to know, but after the Aftermath books, I have wanted to know more about him.

We have found out that the name "Fulcrum" is a code name given to agents that are deep in the system. Which helps tie in the Aftermath book when Wedge talks about "Fulcrum" and doesn't cross any inconsistency in the Canon, we know now that Ashoka was not the only one.

Sabine in this episode really kick A** and I loved every min of it. She has always been strong willed and tough, this episode was just as much about her as it was about Wedge. During the first rescue attempt, when it goes sideways she never once hesitated when telling Ezra that him and the crew need to get out of there. Her fight with Arihnda Pryce is pretty cool and you can tell Sabine can hold her own. I cant wait for the Mandalore story arc hopefully this season.

I love the fact that with these side stories, they are using other members of the Ghost team. It could be very easy just to have Ezra do every story line. It is even hinted at, when Kanan talks to Ezra about how he needs to put trust in others and a strength of a jedi is to step back sometimes.

This was one of the first episodes that I caught myself looking at all the details and how realistic this cartoon is becoming. The halls of the academy when no one is in them looks like a set straight out of a movie, meaning I can't tell it was a cartoon. Same with the tie fighter exercise in space, it look like a movie production scene. For me it was really nice to see the graphics and the money they are putting into this series.

The Honorable Ones episode in which Agent Kallus and Zeb have to work together in order to survive in the linch pin for this episode. Zeb helps Kallus in that episode and doesn't kill him and in return we see in this episode Kallus returning the favor. It was great nod to loyal fans of this show.

    Overall 7/10

    Welcome to the resistance wedge!

@Hermann22 you beat me to creating this post!;) I love the fact we have the same takeaways from this episode. I am glad I am not the only one amazed with the animation.

A solid episode, but I wouldn't say it was a memorable one. Not saying it was bad, it was just... okay. The animation and quality continues to improve!

Very solid episode, not as good as the previous two, but very solid.

Both good (Sabine) and bad lady (Pryce) were kicking serious butt, Wedge and Hobbie were cute, Kallus showed himself to be really the honorable one (I'm not convinced yet that he is really Fulcrum, I think they explained Fulcrum well), Ezra needs a time out in his room. The dog fights were great, I love, LOVE the TIE Interceptors and, you are all right, the animation was great - several shots could almost be posters.

I like how this season is shaping up. So far, so very good.

Was I really the only one who nearly jumped from excitement because I thought this Imperial with a moustache was Terex from Poe Dameron comic but then was really confused when he was revealed to be just someone else (Vult Skerris to be exact)?

    upload_2016-10-9_1-28-48.png

But anyway, the episode was great, not as good as the last one... but actually, no, it's not worse, just different. Loved the Kullus' moment, everything Arihnda Pryce. And also, Sabine, WHY CAN'T YOU JUST KEEP THE BLACK HAIR??...

I liked this episode! I have found myself more invested into Wedge as well after reading the Aftermath books and I was looking forward to see how he became a Rebel (and in someway, it is exciting to see that we are approaching to known ANH territory! Exciting yet scary because I don't know yet how the Ghost crew will fit into that!). Anyhow, liked your reviews a lot guys!

I enjoyed also seeing Hobbie. I just saw the Rebels Recon and Pablo mentioned they considered at some point to include Biggs here. (Even theorized that the domino drawings in his ANH X-wing pilot helmet could have been made by Sabine lol). But at the end they discarded that.

P.S. I liked how Wedge got all in this cocky Poe Dameron attitude saying: "I can fly anything!" (Same as Mr. Han Solo in the Star Wars comics in the Cymoon arc.) Flyboys!

I liked how they clarified that, and I still have this strong theory that one of those individuals using the Fulcrum code might be Cassian Andor.

I was always one for Wedge. He only had a few minutes in each film, but still a character arc of sorts. He failing at Death Star 1, knocking out the AT ATS with cables, then finally at the end being part of the crew blasting Death Star 2 from the inside. It was so cool they made him a strong character in Aftermath, one of the background players in the story that helped us to get an idea of what a pilot in the alliance was like that wasn't Luke. Loved that they explained Fulcrum and gave Sabine a chance to shine.

Does Wedge play a love triangle with Sabine/Ezra? Ezra does over protect her like Anakin/Padame in TCW. It was a good episode in all. For some reason i think "Fulcrum" could be Saw or Jyn. I think they or Saw would fit into the Rebels series. it makes me want to know who "fulcrum" is. like they said that its a code name and there are cells or others who are part of the rebellion. Ezra/Sabine in this episode start the clashing with each other. Its hard to see Ezra turn to the darkside just cause Disney wont fully show violence. I think Dave is doing it perfectly to script with the whole Rebel crew. You can kinda see/feel with R1 coming soon and this rebels season that they are trying to slowly die out the Jedi/Sith storyarc. Yeah, we will see lightsabers(of course) but with Kanan's wisdom and Maul's teaching its somewhat making Ezra a strong force wielder(hmmm) does he fight Kanan and Maul and (Ahsoka - Still think shes alive) leaves the rebels crew in season 3 and have them find him in season 4. just my opinions...

May the force be with you always...

I enjoyed the episode, I'm glad Ezra sat this one out as I felt his dark grip on the force would have caused him to destroy that simulation ship unlike Sabine's hesitation, she did a good job, I didn't know Kallus & Zeb had a debt that he needed to repay, clearly so with honor being respected, cool fight scene between Sabine & Pryce during that period of the episode I knew she wanted to get out of those cuffs to deliver some mandolorian muscle, I'm glad Wedge is on board with a cause he can finally believe in & make new history with rebellion.

Fulcrum, according to this episode, is not one person, it is several people using a codename. I guess we will learn more about Saw and Jyn on "Rogue One" but from what we have seen in the teaser, she was not working with the Rebel Alliance until she gets to Yavin and is facing Mon Mothma, Cassian Andor and the guy who I think is Airen Cracken.

Season 2 on the episode "The Honorable Ones".

What are the quick hitters? Things you don't feel strongly about but want to mention? Good salt/pepper catch. That's some next level attention to detail :).

Increase the tension. Makes the heroes feel more vulnerable when characters die around them.

I'm on your side. When we first heard the voice and explanation, I was like, "of course it was Kallus". But his helping Sabine seemed to be a once time thing where he was paying a debt to Zeb. Although he 'couldn't find any rebels' for some reason, and he isn't a very incompetent character, especially in finding rebels. Why not just tell Sabine he is a Fulcrum?

    Interesting

Do ezra and Sabine have a love line? I know Ezra flirted with her a bit in the Pilot, but they haven't had any romantic scenes since, and she shut him down hard in the only one where he shows interest in her.

I don't agree. I got the impression she was a particularly insubordinate rebel agent. "this is a rebellion isn't it, I rebel". I can't see them assigning this mission to someone with no prior history with the rebellion. Also, if she ends up leading troops in battle "are you with me?" hopefully she has had some prior experience.

I know Leia I saw that episode, I thought they where even when they got each other of the pit on the geonosis moon clearly Kallus felt when he saw Sabine he knew Zeb cared for her & knew he had to act.

On of the best so far. Last two Episodes had a weird flow and somewhat boring overall.

Episode 3 had so much more relevant content and structure.

Personally I believe he is doing episodes that have some sort of a connection to R1. A Fulcrum being one Cassian Andor? Little nuggets that may show up in R1? Or he could just have written a couple of episodes b/c they asked him to.

    I relished this episode.

As a Wedge fan from as far back as the playgrounds of the late 70's, I've been hoping/waiting for that character to emerge in this series.

I was also a big fan of the old 'X-wing' / Tie-Fighter combat flight simulator games from the early nineties.

So this episode was right up my alley.

Also - being introduced to "Two fighters against a star destroyer?" (Hobbie) was an extra dollop of icing on an already delightful *wedge* of cake.

Now the Rebels have at least two canonically "unkillable"- (for now) -pilots flying for them. ...Cool.

    I'm excited.

Just cause of Disney they dont really show alot as far as the series goes. with TCW it was a different network so it felt more realistic to the whole PT. With Rebels they dont show the negatives, not alot of major killings scenes, hell they showed Maul killing the sister but cut to her just falling to the floor. For the Adults who watch it they put the idea of Ezra/Sabine there. the further along they are the more intense Ezra/Sabine characters get. They always try to outshadow each other but some how leave alil emotion that they do care. Just like when we see the scene when they do fight its prolly cause they get possess(forgot her name from TCW its looks) and Ezra is not willing to let go(anakin trying to save everyone and Luke leaving Yoda).

I kno its serveral people using it, I feel like it could be a Saw Guerra helping them and which starts the gathering of the R1 crew. just since TCW, Saw would be a viable character to helping the Rebels right now while R1 is generating more hopefuls(like myself) I think you can fit the villian characters into Rebels just to give them a background than just to pop up from R1. maybe i need to read more on the SW
