SPECULATION Star Wars: Battlefront II General Discussion

Sigh... and again. Another big update installs itself on my PS4 yet I'm still waiting on offline Galactic Assault and another single player campaign. It's been 7 months and all I can play by myself is a measly campaign with wasted narrative potential and around 5 starfighter maps which are so full of silly "YOU KILLED ARDEN LYN" pop-ups on my screen that honestly I prefer BF1's land-based maps, they were at least movie-styled in their presentation whereby I could remove all text, had shuttle defence/attack objectives and enjoyed the clatter of shrapnel on the canopy, instead of full of KER-CHINGing arcade game exclamations all over the screen that I can't remove.

They can stick in Delta Squad, Mara Jade, Kyle Katarn, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Prince Xizor, the Black Sun, dark troopers, the Old Republic, Darth Revan, Darth Bane, Darth Nihilus, Ashoka Tano, Asajj Ventress, Rae Sloan, the Grand Inquisitor, Galen Marek, Doctor Aphra, K2-S0, the Solo twins, Baron Fel, Rookie One, levels onboard a full size Executor, Scariff, Coruscant, Nar Shadaa, Felucia, the ability to fly the Mouldy Crow, the Outrider, a Z-95 Headhunter, perform bombing runs in Y-Wings, the TIE Phantom, the TIE Defender, the Sith Fury Interceptor etc etc. but until I can play it by myself at my own rate without having to contend with the irritation of online players, I literally don't care about any of it.

I'm honestly way more excited about No Man's Sky Next than whatever needless new online elements they can squeeze in BF2.

I just want to play a modern Star Wars game by myself. Why is that such an implausible request??

 

Only now I realised I posted this in a wrong thread... So that's the roadmap if anybody missed it.

EDIT: Ah, sorry. False alarm. I think one of the players did this... I thought it's actually EA, because the DICE community manager replied that "he's looking forward to the results."

 

This kind of game is not really my cup of tea, and really I’m quite terrible at games like battlefront.

But watching videos on youtube, the game does look amazing. Really stunning visuals, the Theed city level just looks gorgeous. I’d be one of the people just roaming around looking at everything, probably wouldn’t last very long. lol

 

Yeah, I watched some of the story campaign. Simple but interesting enough story, especially for a battlefront game, glad they added that aspect. The Lando and Shriv bits are highly entertaining.

 

I regained my interest in Battlefront II lately - slowly getting back into it. Right in time for Obi-Wan, who's dropping next week (28th). Too bad we have to wait for Anakin until February...

 

It's sad that I haven't yet open up BF II yet. I have so much backlog that I haven't gotten around to it.

 

There's a "General Kenobi" skin coming in December (officially announced) and it's probably this one or similar. Personally, I'd prefer a Tartakovsky-inspired look, which is coming to the Black Series:

The Obi-Wan and Geonosis gameplay look fantastic! Can’t wait to play on Thursday!

 

The update is great. Haven't played a lot yet, but I like Geonosis. It looks nice and feels like all-out-war. Seems more intense than some of the other maps, but maybe that's just my impression. Unfortunately, my connection is quite weak recently. I lag all the time - not sure if that's because of the update or my internet...

Got to play a little bit as Obi-Wan and he's great! I wish I was able to play him more, but he gets picked all the time. The abilities are straightforward, which I like, and the model looks better than it seemed from the trailer. Really nice character.

 

PS. There's one detail that bothers me - Obi-Wan's lightsaber is darker/more saturated than Rey's... To me, different shades of one colour are a film thing. IMO there's no reason for them to differ in one game. Obi-Wan's darker blue clearly imitates the RotS look and Rey's is more like ST. But it's funny, because Rey has the lightsaber that Anakin used on Mustafar and in RotS both are identical. Unless there's something in canon about the colour of a lightsaber fading a little bit with age, but that would be lame...

Yup. I just went full nerd-OCD.

 

Seeing the results to "Select the features that would be the most exciting to add to Battlefront II [Select all that apply]" and "Are you more of an online player, or an offline player?" broke my heart when it comes to single player. More "multiplayer announcers" and a "community tab" are infinitely more interesting to people than playing a more stress-free movie-like experience of playing a video game against artificial intelligence that doesn't snipe you the moment you spawn. So few people wanted more offline content its percentage doesn't even rank

I know I'm a stuck record on this subject, but I still haven't played it any further, regardless of the updates because I just want to play single-player... I want to enjoy the immersive cockpit mode and learn maps slowly at my own rate and not worry I'm not letting down 20 people if I try out a hero and die or go the wrong way or stop to enjoy the scenery. Guess I definitely won't be getting any more offline content if that's anything to go by. "18-24, male, online-only, daily-reading reddit users" are the only demographic that matters I guess.

 

Supposedly they're going to start looking into Arcade a bit more at some point, but they haven't given any specifics. So there could be some hope for that, if only a little.
