Lets hope the Casino has music unlike the AOTC version with Anakin and Obi-Wan where there was no music at all. It killed the scene!
Why have a sports bar/Casino with no music?
    lol

If I had heard this ultra big cantina rumor before seeing TFA I would have lost my mind with joy but saddly, after seeing Maz Kanata's lame place and then seeing this:
    fotonoticia_20160315133449_1280.jpg
I really don't know what to think anymore. Seeing these alien dudes in human looking tuxedos is really a downer for me and I fear that SW is soon going to be transformed into something totally different than the wonderful galaxy that I loved so much and grew up with from the start. I was so happy when Disney bought SW from Lucas as I always feared that George was just to scared to move beyond ROTJ but my heart is starting to break seeing the road Disney has started to pave for SW. Had it been Lucas who were to give us a huge cantina type environment that would rival everything we have seen before then I would be crazy just waiting to see what wonderous aliens and creatures awaited us there but seeing how Disney is working I already am expecting a huge let down. How I wish I were mistaken. :(

To be fair with the exception of maybe some creatures on Tatooine, aliens in the Original Trilogy always wore outfits similar to humans. It wasn't until the Prequels that outfits diversified with CGI.

That may be my friend but one thing is similar and another thing is looking almost identical to a human's everyday wear. When you look at the OT Star Wars movies, most of the creatures there had cloths that even though a human could wear them, it still looked otherworldly and it wasn't something you would see someone you know using. I never had a neighbor who dressed like Greedo, Tessek or the Tonnika Sisters. Even though a few might pass as regular cloths, Lucas made sure that even the most simple of cloths in the OT had that special look of a galaxy far far away. Even their footwear looks like something you could find in another planet and not something you have hanging around your closet. When you look at these creatures, they feel just at home in that universe and don't seem out of place.

But now look at these pics and tell me if they look like something we would have ever seen in a SW film:
    zzz.JPG
Oh man just looking at that alien dude's shoes gives me the chills as those are regular shoes that you could go to the mall and buy! Alien guys in normal regular tuxedos with everyday type shoes??? A galaxy far far away and the aliens there have a Payless Shoes or a Footlocker right their in their planet? That bites!
Even the cloths that people and aliens wore in the night club scene from AOTC which I am not a very big fan of looks WAY better and otherworldly than those freaky tuxedo guys!

I would suggest that maybe all the tuxedos aren't the casino scene. I'm in complete agreement with the other worldly costumes. I dig them. The tuxedo thing seems more ceremonial. Kinda how uncle earl wears his overalls to the black jack table and a jacket and tie to a wedding or a funeral.

    Just my two cents

I honestly think that the entire opera sequence in ROTS is better then these "costumes" (if you can call it that as they look like a HUMAN opera thing) but then again we don't know what the end result will look like at all.

This. The casino gives us another opportunity to add in universe music.:D
And this time they better put it on the soundtrack!

There was no music in AOTC because the focus wasn't on the cantina but instead it was on the tense moment between Anakin, ObI-Wan, & Zam Wessel, so adding some sort of festive cantina music would have killed the mood for the main subjects of the action that was happening.

So, for you, dressing up some aliens in normal human clothing that you can buy anywhere counts as something original? You really find that cool for SW?

Speaking of things that are too real-world and don't belong in the SW universe, just about everything in that AOTC cantina scene is like something out of Dave n Busters. Though I think the most egregious example of this in the PT is the 50s diner with Dex and Joan River's droid from Space Balls serving drinks, followed closely by the Howard Cosell twins doing color commentary during the podrace in TPM.

Anyway I agree with those who question the look of these aliens in tux-like outfits/shoes, but I'm willing to set aside judgement until I see it on screen. Generally speaking, cinematography, set design and overall directorial tone are more important to suspending our disbelief than costumes/make-up. If Johnson has a strong and cohesive vision then everything will fall into place and look like it belongs (even if it looks ridiculous in behind the scenes footage), whereas even the best costumes/make-up will look cheap and bad if the movie itself feels cheap and bad.

I agree, seeing aliens in human tux is lame as can be and brings discredit to the Star Wars franchise. Seems to be a better scene for a show like Guardians of the Galaxy or some such crap.

VIII is going to be known as the worst SW Evah.

No, that was a fail. By the Force even the Swedes made sure there was in-universe music playing in their waterhole scene. Granted it made no sense to the rest of Star Wars.. but it's there.
I think in-universe music with the proper tone would easily have enhanced that scene.

That distinction should go to either AOTC and/or TFA .

You know the galaxy is a big place, right? There is different apparel for different locations and occasions. A cantina or a bar would attract the type of people in your photo. And the nightclub photo respectively. Not every alien dresses in some crazy multicolored shabang. Star Wars isn't the one-dimensional fashion show that you want it to be.

If boots exist in the SW universe, and high heels do as well, why on earth wouldn't tuxedo shoes exist?

Do you really not consider this guy otherworldly?
