I couldn't care less if someone called my favorite Star Wars film a piece of trash.. i'm not going to call them names or insinuate they're full of hate. I agree to disagree with them, instead of demonizing them.

 

There is a fine line between critiques & dislike and sadism and flaming. One is a genuine opinion, another is a license to derive pleasure from speaking sacrilege and hatred with the purpose of demeaning others and a work of fiction.

Listen my favorite Prequel is AOTC, and it gets pot shots all the time for reasons I actually understand and sympathize with, for example Anakin’s whining and the awkward romancing (I admit these are turn offs, no pun intended). But I haven’t encountered (in AOTC critiques) the zealous trolling and hatred of those who found their cult by hating TLJ and now seek to destroy anything associated with the Sequel Trilogy.

Are the same people complaining that throughout The Clone Wars and Rebels the Mandalorians take helmet's off all the time, but in The Mandalorian they say they never take the helmets off. Maybe Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau should talk to the people that made The Clone Wars and Rebels before making a TV show. I am sure Kathleen Kennedy didnt allow them.




OK those last 2 sentences were sarcasm. I know Dave Filoni was in charge of The Clone Wars and Rebels.

 

Actually I'm not sure what you're saying. But I was just merely being sarcastic.

 

The hype is really picking up. I'm getting more excited, if that's even possible. It's going to be insane in a few weeks! I will need serious Cantina forum time to cope.

About that "They fly now" discussion thing, here is my silly contribution of the day:

Just watched the chinese movie "The Farewell", a little gem that has won several awards, including the Audience Favourite in last Sundance. A tragicomedy with an amazing direction, amazing actors and a natural story full of great moments.

Without spoilers, I will tell you in one scene a character says 我知道 (which it means I KNOW) 8 consecutive times!! So natural, so hilarious, a great moment. 8 times! It's what I see in TROS clip. Yeah, we will be ok with "They fly now" 3 times.

And that's all.

If you can watch "The Farewell", you will not regret.

I agree, although TLJ was a 6/10 for me (though I really enjoyed the first viewing) I think it's ridiculous how some fans are saying this trilogy isn't canon and so on. I loved TFA, it might be my favourite Star Wars film next to Empire and ROTJ. It was a great start, and anyone who disagrees with that doesn't realise what a minefield it was for Lucasfilm to get it right.. Zac Snyder could have made it for example. Kathleen could just said "meh we'll do everything with green screens and set it 100 years after ROTJ"

The concept of Kylo Ren was great, we got some great new moments with Han/Chewie and virtually all the characters played a big role. Even Luke played a biggish role as the whole plot kinda revolved around him, and it maintained the legend status we all wanted him to have.

So my thoughts swing both ways really, both sides of this thing need to stop the name-calling etc. The Fandom Menace crowd need to stop calling fans of this trilogy "fake fans" or "soy boys" and so on, and the ST fans, Kathleen, Rian etc need to stop with the whole sexism narrative. It's so stupid, nobody wants to reason with someone calling them personal insults. Until it stops from both sides, the fandom won't go back to positive mindset it had back in the 80s/90s like JJ mentioned.

There will be infinite possibilities to make flashbacks scenes of Luke and so on in future films or spinoffs, when they're able to make a 100% photorealistic Mark Hamill etc. What's the difference between that and CGI-ing his face onto a stunt double? The Luke thing doesn't bother me much at all, we might even get him in The Mandalorian.
