In Aftermath there are separate interludes that involve Tatooine and Jakku. They are separate planets thus the original post is not possible.

That's what I was getting at! Yes, the resulting blast would likely destroy Tatooine itself... unless there's some SUSPEND YOUR DISBELIEF feature Starkiller has that prevents the surrounding area from being destroyed.

As for opinions, nah, I prefer those that challenge my own. Perhaps it was the tone I took issue with. But we're big boys an girls.

Also... as I previously mentioned, Jakku has been around quite some time.

Even if there were months between the Tatooine and Jakku intervals, it doesn't leave much time for a planet to be reinhabited after an event which would most likely destroy all life on said planet...

Jakku also has it's own native race of sentient beings, the Uthuthma.
If Jakku was Tatooine, where are all the Uthuthma on Tatooine?

Let it go people. Let it go.

    1) Jakku has already been in canon material as a separate location from Tatooine.

    2) Assuming the laws of physics are even somewhat accurate in the Star Wars universe, destroying one the suns of Tatooine would result in it being instantly frozen into a lifeless ball of death - you can't just axe a sun without altering the climate beyond recognition.

    3) Even ignoring those first two points, what could possibly be the strategic purpose of trying to destroy a backwater planet in the outer rim of no importance?

'Tone'? You read too much into it. I was trying to get some clarification on what you were trying to get at. But I guess that somehow qualifies as 'pessimism' as Old Biff and CaptainPhastastic would testify.

The base can fire and then leave into Hyperspace before they get destroyed. And, if Jakku lost even ONE sun, it would most likely get destroyed by the sheer energy instead being turned into Jakku. What I find funny, if any of you guys remember "Supershadow," was that he had made his own draft of IX back in the day, he had written something about the bad guys making a weapon that could destroy the universe and Luke Skywalker ending up destroying The ENTIRE Dark Side of The Force with his own similar weapon.

wouldn't changing a desert planet into a desert planet turn it into a dessert planet?

I think your theory is... RIGHT.

    - During the battle of Jakku, there were two suns.

    - In VII, there's 1, but shot composition indicates Abrams wants us to feel something is missing in the empty part of the sky.

    - We know Starkiller exists in VII, and we know it can destroy a star.

    - We don't know if previous to VII, Starkiller has been tested.

    - We don't know why Jakku was important to the Imperials.

talk about pessimistic ratings! disliking honest jokes; sheesh!

i have to agree though, if Starkiller tried to destroy one of Tatooine's suns then it would probably have had very dramatic effects on not only the planet, but the other star in the system.

as for Jakku having two suns, take it the Jakku page! no one wants to hear that tired hog wash here! (gamorrean)

No I think they just created another desert planet with a new name. Its stupid to me along with several other things that seem like the same thing yet slightly different, but I'm pretty over it now.

Had to sign up, just to share this. There is a character tease in an early chapter of "Star Wars: Aftermath." Character's name is "Jak." Very similar to "Jakku." Continue speculation. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Jak_(Coruscanti)

I think there is a much simpler explanation.

I think Tatooine is out there, as always.

But before the events of this movie, the First Order did indeed destroy Jakku.

And because it was just a test of Starkiller base, they replaced Jakku with an exact replica.

Then they turned around and continued on their way, whistling a little tune, hoping no one would notice.

I think he wants to make it clear that this is not Tatooine because there is only one sun.

But I'd agree that he could or should have used a different kind of vaporator if he didn't want us and audiences to confuse Jakku with Tatooine. Unless, of course, it's deliberate because they wanted to collect stock footage they can later use in Rogue One for Tatooine (where they will add Tatoo II).

My thinking is that Starkiller/First Order take over a planet and set up a base and their super weapon. They then use the natural resources of the planet to power their weapon. By doing this it renders the entire planet useless and void of any natural resources, like a Jakku, which could have been a Hoth. This could be the red screen scene with Kylo looking out over what looks like a forest being scorched or something.

I also like the idea that Starkiller takes out Suns (actually large stars) which then renders that universe unable to sustain much life, like a Jakku or Tatooine or Hoth.

If you play around with the brightness and contrast of that image you can see the laser slicing through a Star Destroyer, so it's probably Kylo watching Leia's weapon at work before jumping into hyperspace
