SWTFA...30 years pass and no NEW Spaceships...:(

30 years is nothing.. tbh i dont think they should have changed the xwings at all.. first order i can understand.. but if the falcon is still running i see no reason why the old rebel ships wouldnt still be in use.
and tbh we still got lots of new ships.. kylo's is especially cool.

 

I should design a ship? I could give it a shot!

 

Just FYI, for those that care, in the old Expanded Universe they went 20,000+ or more years with similar technology running around and similar technology existing up to A New Hope, etc.. So I wouldn't really expect them to make that much of a leap in just 3 decades or so.

 

Somebody prolly already pointed this out.....but Kylo's ship was new (I think)

Also....even though we didn't see it, Han's freighter was prolly new as well as the ship that Leia arrived to Maz's castle was also new. As well as the ship that dropped off Rey in the force vision/flashback. They were there, just not very prominent.

As I replay the movie in my head....the ship that Finn was going to leave in from Maz's castle also new.

 

If they introduce a new faction it would make sense to have new vehicles. But if they ever go back to Naboo I would expect to see something very similar to the famous Naboo starfighter. I thought we saw a good amount of new ships, the thing was the main ships we saw were very similar to the ones we know, the X-Wing and the TIE fighter.

 

In 30 years, have aircraft carriers changed much other than get bigger? I would suggest the updated Tie Fighters and same types of ships makes sense.

 

Its not just time. Its ideology. The 1st Order wants people to see them as the return to the order and stability of the Empire. Hence they have adopted a near identical look.

 

Keep in mind the whole New Republic fleet gets blown up offscreen.

If the New Republic retaliates in Episode 8, they will have to come up with all new vessels or else scrounge old ones from around the galaxy and the systems that make up the New Republic.

 

In some ways it makes some sense to not have a huge variance of ships -- the Resistance is sort of an underfunded, under the table, scout group... there's no logical reason for them to have a huge variety of ships and resources. Sadly, all the new ships we wanted in Ep. 7 likely got torched when they used Starkiller on the Hosnian system and destroyed the New Republic fleet..

Of course, it wasn't until the End of ESB that we saw a lot of the cruisers, and it wasn't until ROTJ that we got B-Wings, A-Wings, etc.

BUT... Indie Revolver put up some concept art for other Resistance ships a while back... maybe we'll see some of these in the future.
