The fruit itself was completely CGI. Natalie Portman actually had to pretend to eat the food.

There is no way Earth will be shown in Star Wars, atleast not in canon. "A Long Time Ago, In A Galaxy Far Far Away" would completely lost meaning, so, no way whatsoever. It would be the biggest mistake in the universe since midichlorians.

And what about the snake seen on Dagobah and the frog eaten by Jabba. These scenes bother you guys? Not me I must say.
    Great thread by the way.

Earthly colloquialisms need to be kept far away from Star Wars. Has anyone read Aftermath? 'Duh', 'bummer', 'Darth Obvious', 'Emperor Palpable'. All canon now. Reading these things took me right out of the book. Wendig also thought adding 'space' in front of words suddenly made them more Star Warsy, so things like 'space-diapers' and 'space-buses' are now a thing. I really don't want anything like that in the movies.

The other thing I don't understand is why are they using a knife and fork to eat a pear? So the eating situation is already awkward. It's like Lucas was bored and trying to figure out how many bad creative decisions he could stack in one scene, but it was this decision to make the fruit CGI that finally put it over the top.

Can someone make a new poll, Worst Scene from the Prequels? This has got to be up there. Are all those Annakin / Padme "romantic" scenes from the same sequence? The fireplace, the sand discussion, rolling around in the grass talking about "democracy" ugh. I'd need to watch AOTC again to determine if these should be counted as single scenes or lumped together as one sequence, but that's not happening.

I'm not worried about the politics as I think they're a universal thing based on the visions of the beings. The thing that I worry about the most is the earthly references to language that I saw in the Heir to the Jedi novel...WAY too many grammatical modern American earthly references. As an American, I saw them and had to re-read the line and then rolled my eyes...none of that please.

I hope not! Like one of the other posters said....if a long, long time ago/far away is true...we would be amoebas. I love that Star Wars is long ago, far away, and is not literally connected to Earth. (Most sci-fi have some connection to Earth or earthlings. This helps create the fantasy/sci-fi fusion I love about Star Wars.) No one needs an earth connection in Game of Thrones or Final Fantasy. We don't need it in Star Wars.

I really hope Luke isn't hiding out in Mexico or Canada.

References to Earthling politics, current events, fashion, slang, or anything else will only ensure that the film looks dated and "old" in 10+ years. The more difficult thing to do is make sure your Star Wars film has none of these references. I would think Lucasfilm would absolutely be all over this.

Don't forget the space pod from "2001: A Space Odyssey" which was in Watto's Junkyard in TPM too. ;)

The word "rendezvous" (French) "I'll meet you at the rendezvous point on Tatooine" - too French for the English language version of Star Wars.
The word "hello" - didn't exist until the invention of the telephone.
The word "okay/OK" - U.S. slang for "alright" or "yes".
    ;)
