Actually if done correctly I wouldn't mind the planet Earth making a cameo at the end of the saga. And I am a hardcore OT fan.

When the last chapter is written, after the good guys finally win once and for all and as an example Rey and Finn (or whoever it may be) settle down. They come across a planet that has the force flowing through it.

It seems peaceful and calm. Then shrieking sounds and fallen trees. They look and what do we see? Dinosaurs.

They both sigh. Light sabers ignite. Black screen.

Isn't the ending of battle star galactica similar to where the ending of that was that they like destroyed their ships and restarted Earth...or am I just making that up  idk but that's what your proposed idea reminds me of but that would be pretty "meta" but sEArth shouldn't be any part of the universe...maybe an Earth-Like planet where it is earth-like in how it's society/tech and all are but it isn't something I could get on bored with ...

Keep in mind it was just a thought after reading the thread. Don't know if I like it myself. Just a fun thought that swirled in my brain. :)

I never seen battle star galactica.

My little post won't cover this issue fully, but I'll try to summarize my two cents. I feel like people deliberately go out of their way to take themselves out of the atmosphere of some films, in this case Star Wars -- a saga providing the ultimate escape into a supremely immersive atmosphere. It takes some work to pull yourself out of it I don't understand why you would want to.

Some people will find anything to succeed at spoiling their experience and I can't conceive of all the ways they could do this nor, again, do I want to. Whether that be thinking something in a film is obviously a commentary on some real life thing, when it wasn't or when it bugs you to hear "Uncle" Owen and "Aunt" Beru instead of "Space Uncle" Owen or "Space Aunt" Beru. Present company excluded there appear to be expectations on the part of some that are patently ridiculous. This is Earth and our artists have to begin with what they know to create their art, before expanding out. As it pertains to Star Wars, in doing so they have still managed to create (in my book) seven great films which inspire my imagination in the GFFA.

As human beings we have large imaginations. Life after death was never an issue until we became smart enough to identify death. Once that happened we could not tolerate death so we created religion. A way out of our impending doom. We have made stories up our entire life to make reality seem less painful.

My question is, why does Earth appearing in a sy-fy film upset you so much?

EDIT: I quoted the wrong post, my bad. I think this is in response to a couple above.

No loathsome, disgusting political figures in Star Wars, please.

There are slight nods to other movies in TFA: the rather scene features shots from Jurrassic park. And the Tie fighters in the rising sun on Takodana were a nod to apocalypse now. And what about "Ello Asty's Born to Ill", a small beasty boys reference, I'm okay with that. I like those analogies, but I don't want anything literal, Star Wars needs to be timeless, and I think that a contemporary reference does not help that purpose. I don't want tie ins to marvel or any other of Disney franchises. Nor do I want the political mumbling from ROTS which tied into Lucas personal views on American interventionist Bush discourse in the early 2000s.

By the nods are mainly in the cinematography style and editing of the sequences and all and not directly referencing things in our Earthly Forms .

As I said, having things on another planet sort of like LOST would make so much more sense for this new theory .

While there is a point where you should use a more "spacey" term for something (to reference the old WEG rulebook, instead of "screwdriver", use "hydrospanner", etc.), some phrases and words are fine. Especially basic, day to day relationships. Anakin calling Shmi "Mom" is fine. (Also, a small child calling their mother "mother" is amazingly unsettling. Like Village of the Damned unsettling) Girlfriend is fine, too. All right is also fine. As long as they don't use direct phrases that refer to things they should have no knowledge of (like if FN-2199 had should "Benedict Arnold!" or if a character says "PWNED"), that's the real problem. Sometimes, I feel this tendency to complain about certain elements can go way too far. For instance: "younglings". Younglings is kinda stupid. It sounds stupid. And it is especially stupid as the word "children" exists in the Star Wars universe. Scratch that, it's in the SAME FILM (Attack of the Clones has mention of younglings and children, the later of which in Anakin's whole little whinefest after he MASSACRED A WHOLE KRIFFING VILLAGE WHY IN THE SEVEN CORELLIAN HELLS DID YOU MARRY THAT UNAPOLOGETIC PSYCHOPATHIC NERFHERDER, PADMÉ? WHY!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Sorry. That part really gets me. Any way, back to my points.
Don't forget, how come Basic sounds EXACTLY like English.

Now, I don't think that too many blatant contemporary references will make it into the films. There might be a minor thing here or there, but it is usually subtle, such as the Beastie Boys reference and many others in The Force Awakens. And this isn't a new thing. The other films are filled with references and easter eggs, all of which are fine as long as it is done well and subtly. And this isn't just Star Wars. Star Trek: First Contact had the Falcon during the battle against the Borg Cube. The Little Mermaid had Mickey, Donald, and Goofy in a crowd...underwater...without breathing apparatuses... As long as they don't get too blatant, we are fine.
Also, I highly doubt we will ever see Earth in an official Star Wars story. In an intentionally non-canon story? It's happened before (Chewbacca's Bigfoot and Indiana Jones encounters Han's corpse!). We even had that response to the U.S. government saying that they aren't going to build a Death Star! But those who have worked on the franchise and those who will in the future know that it is stupid to feature Earth or be blatant with Earth references. There might be trip ups now and again (we are only human), but they aren't complete idiots.
