Remember in summer 2016, when we got that strange "leak" from ComicBookMovie about a part of The Last Jedi?
Looking back, it did seem weird that the leak features a tree so strongly, when the tree did end up being a major part of the movie. That being said, evidently set photos of the tree had already leaked, making it highly possible that this story was just constructed based on knowledge of those photos.

Add in the Shara Bey tree thing, and I think it's easy to overemphasize the importance of the trees that people may have expected in TLJ.

Plus, Luke's characterization seems entirely different than what he's like in the film.

So no, I don't think this leak ever was true at all. Seems obviously fake to me.

But would it have been a good direction to go? I don't want to turn this yet into another trashy thread that just hates on the movie we got, but what do you feel about the potential trajectory this could've taken the film in? It's definitely odd in a different way than RJ's movie was odd, but could it have been better?

It would at least provide context for Rey's abilities (which do not conform to the established SW framework) and help combat the increasingly strong case for Rey being a Mary Sue. If Rey is an incarnation of a previous self that was already powerful in the Force, there is nothing sudden about her abilities it's merely continuity.

I'm sure if we go over it with a fine tooth comb, we may find that this theories causes problems/logical inconsistencies elsewhere (example, how does this feed into the concept of balance), but on the surface, I don't hate this theory (even if it is ultimately not true)

Yeah, I mean I think there may still be more to Rey than we know, I can see how it'd be worth it alone just so that particular peanut gallery could finally end.
