SPOILER The Darkest of Dark Crystals

In Rebels it comes up as they make Ezra find his crystal and build a saber. It is a sort of trial. In the EU as well as in The old republic video game. The Jedi find crystals and learn to build a lightsaber, but the sith are normally given lightsabers by the masters. I'm sure they learn how to construct them, but it is not a part of their training. Now Ezra is Cannon and the Old republic is not, so keep that in mind.

I have not watched all of the Clone wars show, but in any of the Canon material it never directly states that one crystal is more powerful than another. It is stated in the EU, but not in anything that is Canon that I am aware of. Now keep in mind I am not as familiar with the clone wars show.

 

If your not familiar with the clone war series buy the boxset or watch episodes on youtube when you can.

 

Its worth noting that entire Clone Wars is on Netflix as well. A great place to catch up.

There was Clone Wars episode where some younglings went to a ship with a droid instructor to learn what materials to use and how to construct their lightsabers after they had went through their trial to obtain their crystal.

 

There was an episode in TCW with kids getting their crystals. Very similar to Rebels. Ninja'd by @Kramgnol.

Just a note that a crystal does not need to be magical to be of significant. Its refraction could be like a fingerprint. It could be encoded and so on. When I looked back at the older rumors one was the light sabre was Luke's green sabre found in a crash with details on how to find him in it. Like he opened it up and dropped a note inside.

It would be cool if they sold replica lightsabers where you could take the crystal out to look at it. Or you get a Star Wars crystal and have to construct your own lightsaber with various parts sold separately sort of like legos but not legos real looking parts.

Could it also be that nobody knows how to create a lightsaber.... Nobody has taught the Jedi way... Hence the archaic looking saber that was found by ren... Used by another... Perhaps anakins saber is precious in that respect of opening the secrets to the Jedi way... Since Luke refuses to pass it down....

 

One would think that it isn't that great of a secret... with a galaxy full of creatures, somebody somewhere could have figured it out over the course of a thousand years if it was that interesting...

More likely, just as Han said, it is an archaic weapon... or as Ben said, a more civilized one. Martial Arts takes years to practice and become proficient at, any fool can pull a trigger...

 

Well Anakin created his first lightsaber through the force, Luke created his second one based on plans left by Kenobi in his hutt.

I doubt we will see many martial arts movies, maybe a few kicks & backhand fist strikes.

 

That, my friend, wasn't the point... although the number of martial artists rumored to be in the film might betray your comment...

My point was (and in reference to a real world discipline like Martial Arts) that to become proficient takes years, and it takes minutes to learn to pull a trigger...

I'm just curious. Where did the info about Luke building his light saber based on plans left by Obi Wan. I have not heard that before.

 

My partner told me about while she was viewing wookieepedia, it was partially constructed on Tatooine while he was creating his plan to rescue Han from Jabba.

 

Right. It was in Shadows of the Empire.
