It was a Return of the Jedi deleted scene, readily available on Youtube. Neither scenario may be canon any longer, which if Luke's lightsabre is a Macguffin in TFA, could insert a different point of origin for his weapon. If his lightsabre contains a crystal that can open a dangerous tomb, where did Luke get the crystal from? Was it previously safeguarded by Obi-Wan?

Indeed a great period of Luke's life, I never thought he would have been able create another one without Kenobi's help.
    Yes do that.

It would be neat if a new comic, tv series, or book will take place right after Empire Strikes Back so we can see the current canon version of Luke making his own lightsaber.

I guess GL at the time did not feel fans wanted to see that scene. times have changed we will see it being wielded a lot in TFA. if Luke falls & I mean if what will become of it, my guess is Leia will probably place it somewhere in the jedi temple.

We are all just not thinking of SOMETHING. With the lightsaber being so intricate of a plot device, as has been stated, and the new info about Luke protecting a tomb…I just wonder if there is something we are missing here. I feel like the obvious stuff comes out quick, but with this movie being such a mystery, I worry we haven’t figured out an important detail or two that we could probably reach.

Yeah the lightsaber scene may or may not be canon since it was deleted. TFA could make a reference to

No, the MacGuffin train has been ridden too long and too hard.

People have spoken of it being Luke's Lightsaber, either the one he got from Kenobi (Anakins) or the one he built.

Just a note--it if was the saber he got from Kenobi, then Vader would know nothing of it's secret nature, due to the new Canon Comics. Vader held it, having taken it from Luke, right? If it is that saber, then Kenobi would have been the one to plant information in it.

Honestly, I'd hope that a saber would not be used as a key, but if that's the route they are going, I hope it's at least akin the the "sword and the stone" mythology.

By this logic you just need to chuck younglings into a lightsaber blender for thousands of years, to have the strongest weapon.
Kind of... Not... Great for disney amusement parks

Now, causing kiddies to want their parents to buy a cool new special (non child murdering) light saber to be the key to secrets an wonder, seems more plausible.

No, I think you got it backwards... the blue one Luke got from Kenobi was Anakin's... the green one is the one Vader would know nothing about...

Check the new comic canon. Vader took it from Luke's hand before ESB.

    http://www.starwars7news.com/2015/02/sw7n-review-marvels-star-wars-2.html

That link shows you part of it. The part where he has his old saber in hand. The important part.

You can find more, if you are interested, to see what I was even saying in my post, before picking it apart.

Sure... but the fact that he held it (and I admit, he rightfully should have recognized his own saber) doesn't mean that it wasn't his

"It's your father's lughtsaber. He wanted you to have it when you were old enough, but your uncle wouldn't allow it"

(or was there more to it than that?)

You have missed it. In the comic, he recognized it--his saber. I'm sure you can look it up--it's in one of the previews/reviews. For reals, yo.

Look above, I sadly edited the links to that post... but it's there.

Okay... so it is the same... this is Anakin's saber, Ben gives it to Luke, Vader touches it and recognizes it... I am still not seeing where Vader wouldn't know of it's secret nature...or even that this is the one that makes it into TFA as having a secret nature

Just kinda confused on where this is going, or the point that was being made... maybe I just need more sleep, but I feel you are saying something I am missing still

Gotcha. The whole thread--and a lot of speculation--talks about something hidden in Luke's Saber. All I was saying is, if it's a Sith secret, Vader knew nothing about it. There's been a lot of speculation about people finding Luke's OLD saber, which would have been Anakin's.

Right... gotcha... ok, I am still not convinced that it is Luke's saber... or, in the beginning it might shoulda have supposed to have been, but editing changed that as things went along... It's possible what started out as that being the case isn't anymore...

I admit that it being Luke's saber would be a hard sell without a lot of explanation... and that "hard to sell" might have come out in revisions to it being a saber, but not that saber...

It could be Vader's Red Sabre.

Also whether its the blue or the green. The rumors way back were that it was that Luke had encoded info in it. Perhaps Luke is guarding some Sith tomb that he was made aware of after the demise of the Emperor that held things that Sheeve considered important/sentimental; the ashes of Plagueis, other dead sith, Luke's sabre recovered from Bespin.
