The Defining Star Wars Moment

Definitely the opening shot with the Devastator dragging across the screen, trying to get to Tantive IV. It shows that the rebellion is a struggling movement against the corrupt Empire. It sets the stage for the entire trilogy and is the prelude to the best saga ever.

 

The 2 scenes that resonate to me the most is when Ob1 gives Luke his father's lightsaber yet, Luke can't take that journey with Ob1 at that point; later, Luke discovers his aunt and uncle burnt to a crisp. The horror of that one scene sets Luke on a path to become a Jedi like his father. It sort of parallels Rey's journey IMO.

 

The binary sunset is a fantastic moment in ANH, and probably my favorite piece of music in the saga...But if I only had one choice I'd have to go with "I am a jedi, like my father before me" in ROTJ. It's just so awesome, and such a great climax to the movie and the trilogy as a whole. Luke loses himself to the dark side, then looks at what he's done to Vader, how he's cut off his hand just like Vader cut off his own hand...The realization on his face and then the implied realization on Vader's helmet as the Emporer tortures his son is all great. So much is said with so little dialogue...The first half of ROTJ drags a bit for me, but this moment and the end battle COMPLETELY make up for it. Probably my favorite moment in the saga.

 

Gotta go with Luke gazing at the suns with an expression of feeling lost, and then Luke called his father a Jedi, no longer lost. A symbolic beginning and end to my favorite trilogy.

 

I have to go with the with the clone wars episode with when Ahsoka was kidnapped by those lizard people and she gets back and has this very sweet moment with Anakin and Plo Koon at the end of it. To me that shows that the Jedi order was a giant family even if they weren’t related. but they were all connected

 

OK...OK....first of all what an incredible thread! Really great to see such outstanding thoughtful comments by the best SW fans in the universe.

I must agree with the Binary Sun Scene.....really the defining SW moment for me. Tremendously well done scene, no dialog, just the visuals and the score.

However, you folks may know I am a HUGE R1 fan.....so.....here is the defining scene in R1 for me. From 18 to 28 seconds just superb.

Gotta say... goin' through all the posts, it's hard to not rate each a Great Post. There's Ev'ry generation of SW fan here in our Cantina, an EACH with their own view of each of the Stories... an None of 'em're wrong.

Fer mine, to me it's split between two.
Both're RotJ. First, Luke's declaration "I am a Jedi...".
Second, Anakin saves his son.

 

This scene because it really shows how power and emotional 1 scene can be.
