I was not aware. Thank you for that tidbit.
I agree with this wholeheartedly. Star Wars has become somewhat predictable in it's story lines in terms of tradition, nostalgia, and keeping a familiar repetition of events in place with an intent to honor the OT.
I think it's highly probable Ezra will fall to the dark side and be involved in episode eight or nine as well. We are already seeing Ezra going down a slippery slope with Maul and the sith holocron, so his fall to the dark side should definitely be pretty in depth and viewed as "noble" from his perspective.
Whatever becomes of Kanan, looks like it will have a lot to do with the Bendu being a future figure of guidance for him.

    Ezra goes full darkside.
Takes out Zeb and Hera first.
Kanan confronts him and a battle ensues.
Ezra convinces Sabine that Kanan turned on Zeb and Hera because they [Zeb and Hera] were beginning to believe in Ezra more than Kanan.
Sabine turns on Kanan and allows Ezra to strike him down.
Ezra tells Sabine the truth and asks her to come with him to the dark side. She declines.
Ezra critically wounds Sabine in battle.
*random shot of Ahsoka because Filoni*
Kanan, barely alive, takes off Ezra's hand (Star Wars duh).
Tells Ezra to look at what he's done. See's the bodies of his friends.
Ezra picks up his saber, turns it on himself and takes his own life.
Kanan gets Sabine to the Ghost to see that Chopper had saved Hera.
They fly out. Kanan dies on the Ghost.
Bendu weeps as "Sounds of Silence" plays us out.

I used to think the final episode would be Kanan vs Ezra, as he would have fully been corrupted by the Dark Side, and that's the path they seemed to have been going down with the ending of Season 2 and the first couple of Season 3, but they bewilderingly seem to have just dropped that plotline entirely.

Thankfully it seems to be so they can focus on Sabine, a much more intriguing character other than "light sider turned dark sider"

Sure, but probably less so than Rebels though. The majority of the cast surviving TCW I don’t think was a product of it being canceled unexpectedly soon or children’s programming. Likewise, there’s likely to be another series after this one. I think a good number of these characters will probably carry over to that to function as connective tissue linking the Filoni-verse together. I’m seldom right about stuff like this though, so who knows :)
I probably should have wrapped that in spoiler tags, huh . . . . . oh well.

They're still the same age though, which was your essential point, right?

Yes exactly....just that I'd so definitively said both on Empire Day, just felt like I should've corrected myself. :)

I think its fairly safe to assume that Ezra is going to go to the dark side before the end of the series... or at least go grey. And Kanan, I fear, is doomed to die IMO. I believe that either Maul or Vader are going to kill Kanan and that may push Ezra to the Dark side (where apparently they have cookies! ;) )

Let’s not discount the self-sacrifice option for Kanan. That would be the easy out for a Disney XD show. “Someone has to stay behind.” “But that’s suicide!!” Yata yata yata, “what a hero” and etc.

I agree. That seems to be the most obvious route for Disney to go. We have to remember that this is essentially a "kid's show" so anything less than self sacrifice would be a little too dark.

Kanan, the surrogate father, dying to protect his surrogate family. The way his master died protecting him. That would mean way more to me personally than Ezra.

I still think Kanan dies, at the hands of Ezra, but I want Ezra to take his own life to prevent himself from continuing down the dark side and being a bland character.

I do not believe that Kanan would hide again. He hid for 10-15 years. It would undo his character arc. Hiding would also mean that he would leave Hera (and not just romantically; also emotionally). We know that Hera is part of the Rebellion during the events of R1, which suggests that people like Bail Organa and Mon Mothma must know what happened with Kanan. As @eeprom suggested, it is likely that he will sacrifice himself to protect his padawan, like his master died to protect him.

I don't care about any of the fleshy characters in Rebels, they're all unlikable, poorly written and shallow characters - except for Chopper.
I'm only interested in Chopper. It was nice to see him for "real" in Rogue One. But the show itself is a horrible mess of lazily and rapidly written short stories which add either unneccessary details or fan service to already canon events. I also don't like its extremely simplistic tone in which the "good guys" always win. The Rebels themselves are all Mary-Sue type characters. ;)

Yeah, if you read the Kanan comic and ‘A New Dawn’ you get to see the full progression of this character’s journey. From trusting padawan, to fearful fugitive, to jaded vagabond, to reluctant hero, and now respected leader and teacher. It would be an interesting twist to have him betrayed by his apprentice, but for me, it would be a far greater service to the character to give him a heroic end. To show the complete realization - from boy to man to something more. Someone who would gladly trade his life if it meant keeping the ones he loves safe. It’s a bit of a trope, but one that would suit this ronin archetype pretty well if you ask me.
