Pretty spot on to how I think of things. The Jedi teachings were filled with flaws just as the Sith and Luke discovers this in the Temple thus changing his thinking.

Another great question for this thread would be what has Luke learned about the Jedi and how has it changed him?

What if it's explained that after finding the temple, the doors locked and he was given an ancient trial. A trial that put him in circumstances that he only passed by giving up the jedi flawed thinking? For instance he could be at his final test and have a question or task so simple... but then looks around and sees all the dead bodies of past Jedi who failed, has a moment with the force, and does the opposite of what he has been trained. And passes the trial in that manner.

So he has stayed there studying the true nature of the force. Or maybe he simply can't leave after taking some kind of oath who knows. So many possibilities.

I hope it's more than a magical tree. Nevermind, that shrub is on Yavin at the Dameron residence. I forgot.

This is interesting. I'd like to see (or at least know) that Luke has had some sort of past Jedi that he doesn't know...like a "Jedi Council" that is there to test Luke and perhaps assist him with advise and teachings on how to rebuild the Order.

And for that matter they don't even have to be alive. Remember Superman when he went into the ice cave to find all the holographic messages his family left him? A seemingly endless library that allows conversation to take place much like people use corona. (I guess her name is on windows 10)

    Exactly. I guess that I should've mentioned "Jedi Force-Ghost Council". :)

Nah, the assistant thingy on Windows 10 is Cortana, named after the iconic AI character from Halo. Names and roles are similar, not gonna doubt that.

    The question here is really:
How did Luke know about a first Jedi Temple and then what relevance is it to him?

My guess is Lor San Tekka, a friend of Luke and Leia, could've provided Luke with the location of the first Temple.

In TFA Han says that Luke just walked away after the destruction of his Jedi academy yet we then hear how he was searching for the Jedi Temple.
At first it sounded like Luke left in grief but with that last line it sounds more like he had a plan.
Even Snoke fears that Luke will resurrect the Jedi. What I am getting at is that there is the strong suggestion that Luke didn't go into exile out of pity but rather to rebuild the Jedi Order.

Now, does the first Jedi Temple hold some interesting knowledge from the era of the Whills? Maybe. That might be part of it. It might link into Jedi origins, the prophesy, balance etc.
But what if it is simply a secret place that Luke thought appropriate to quietly rebuild the order in secret, away from the gaze of anyone who would wish to destroy it again?

My thought is that Rey was to be one of Luke's new pupils but her parents were accosted by the KOR on their way and had to leave Rey on Jakku.

    Hahaha good one XD

I always had a feeling that Luke didn't run away to that certain Temple out of shame. It seems cowardly and illogical and not something that the (once again) last Jedi would do in that situation.

Are you suggesting it may be possible Luke has a few trained Jedi already when Rey approaches him?

Good to see you old friend.

    I don't think so.
I never liked the idea that Luke just pissed off and hid.
For me, he must be there fore a good reason. Especially as his friends suffered and died.
For me, it could be quite poignant if he has been waiting for Rey as much as she has been waiting for her family.
Luke saw her as the future of the Jedi. Maybe because he saw how powerful she could become.
However, it all went to hell. Her parents got killed. Rey never got there. And all that time Luke had to wait.
I think it would work even better if Luke has been stranded on the Island. So he had to endure everything that happened but could do nothing about it.

Then Rey arrives, with the saber she was always intended to have - hope.

I see it as Luke going back to go forward. Going back to the old ways.
An old temple, on a planet devoid of technology. Natural.
A perfect place to become a Jedi.

Kind of like Rocky in Rocky 4 training in the mountains whilst Draco trains in a technologically advanced gym!

Completely agree. His reason for staying behind has to be a damn good one or fans (at least me) will be upset.

    ^^^This^^^

It has never felt right to me that Luke just gave up and went in to hiding...basically ran to his room to pout. It would be terrible and lazy storytelling.

I am going to have fun speculating about this for the next 18 months, but I am confident that "Luke disappearing" is going to have a coherent and satisfying explanation.

OK I got it! It took a few drinks but I'm finally there.

What I want to see in the temple.

    I want the Superman scene
    [IMG]

to have sex with the Indiana Jones and The Knights Templar scene
    [IMG]

I then want the offspring of these two scenes to have a child with the ghost of this man.

And I want the offspring of that to be a beautiful GODESS that flirts with Rian Johnson and convinces him to NOT F@#K THIS UP!!!

@harvywallbanger, you won the internet, congratulations! Now, can you win the #Powerholocron?????

Perhaps Luke has been communicating with the Force spirits of the Jedi who inhabited the temple?

Thank you for the compliment. My mind works in mysterious ways. I'm not the most consistent poster but I can hit the long ball every now and then.

As per your question....Its very possible. There are so may different directions this topic can go and so many possibilities. It's my hope he has been communicating via lost encrypted scrolls.

My own guess is Snoke was the first person ever to use the dark side of the force and has returned somehow, and the Jedi where formed to defeat him, and Luke went looking for the first temple because hidden there is the secret of how Snoke was defeated the first time.

If we assume that the original origins of the Sith and Jedi isn't official canon anymore, then this is certainly a possibility. Don't know for sure though.
