The future of Luke Skywalker

Yoda was imprisoned for starting a wildfire at Skellig Michael, Luke will probably be more careful after that...

 

Snoke thought he was going to destroy Achc-To, too bad Yoda already did it and Luke killed himself making Kylo look like an idiot in front of his men. The bad guys in this movie can’t catch a break.

 

My worry is about when new things leads you to question the actions of characters in previous movies, but point taken.

Interesting point, definitely makes that seem less problematic. Is there a good resource for "the forces will"? Hitting the tree with sacred texts on an island maintained by sentient creatures with lightning doesn't feel entirely neutral.

 

Really hoping this is the case. I'm looking forward to Luke trolling Ben and Ben screaming in anger and frustration "GET OUT OF MY HEAD!" I think Luke also needs to visit Rey though. She will probably need a little more guidance than what the books can provide. "Page turners they are not."

 

I guess the bigger question is can they literally not interfere physically (in some way) or would interfering have certain consequences (for them, the Force or something unforeseen)?

I think it makes for an interesting discussion, of which there is no right answer.

 

Since the books were already gone, Yoda didn’t interfere with anything but an old tree. Yoda knew the books were gone. He just didn’t tell Luke that.

 

I was going to originally post that Force Ghosts cannot harm any living things, but didn't because trees are living. But you just made me realise that the Force tree was already dead...

 

A climactic battle would be great, but that would have required the first two films to set up for it.

 

No doubt he'll return as a force ghost with Yoda.

 

Luke: 'see you around kid'

I'm counting on it.

 

Luke is now much more powerful than in human form. He will assist Rey and, in my opinion, he will appear to Kylo Ren. He will try to disturb Kylo in his mind to help Rey fight him.

 

Doesn't that make it sound a bit easy for Rey, when she has Super-Luke by her side?
If they incorporate Luke in Episode IX, I do hope for something VERY subtle.
In fact I am one of the people who actually think Luke had the best send-off possible and seeing him again in the next film would lessen that.

 

I'm positive Luke will return as a force ghost to help Rey just as Obi-Wan helped him.

Totally summarizes my guess as to Luke's future. Its an opportunity for another possible reveal. Although it is cliche', it is a Star Wars tradition that should be passed on.

 

The bigger question is, does he appear to Kylo and how does that play out? We’ve never seen a force ghost appear to a dark side villain. Although it is his nephew.

What’s interesting is Luke says to Kylo that if he strikes him down in anger he will always be with him, just like his father. Then Kylo attempts to do just that, and strikes him. The last thing Luke says is “see you around kid”. Was that Luke saying, “well I warned you not to strike me down in anger. Now I’m going to haunt your @$$.”

 

This is so true. RJ seems to set it up for the follow up to be that way, but we all saw how JJ's set ups were simply stopped dead in their tracks. So it actually all depends on the outcome of the next movie, in my opinion. If Luke appears to Ben, it suggests he will be redeemed. If Luke appears to Rey, it suggests Kylo is unredeemable.
Either way, we all witnessed Yoda's god-like abilities effecting the phtsical realm. Maybe Luke can learn such things as well. With all the new force powers sprouting up, that would be a great opportunity to introduce more interesting types of manipulations of the force.
