Assuming Season 4 is the final season, what better way to end the show than the Battle of Scarif. The best part of Rogue One in my opinion! Pablo Hidalgo, Dave Filoni, and the rest of the Lucasfilm story group are very aware Ezra and Kanan cannot be around or Jedi at the very least by the time of the original trilogy. We could push for the Empire Strikes Back, but as Kristian Harloff stated in the latest episode of Collider Jedi Council, if they were around, wouldn't they send Luke to them (Kanan and Ezra) to receive Jedi training after Obi-Wan's passing?

What we do know is that the Ghost crew takes part in the Battle of Scarif. They are seen numerous times during the space battle and on Yavin IV.

But, knowing the battle will be shown on Rebels through the crew's perspective, it got me thinking as to what the crew will be doing besides providing support in the space battle. It can't be as simple as "provide space support, go home", so this is what I believe their mission, perhaps their final mission will be.

Rescuing Admiral Raddus after his ship was disabled by Lord Vader. The Tantive IV was docked on Raddus' ship, before they detached and fled for Tatooine.

As far as we know, there are no hints towards Raddus' fate, but it does not look good for the Mon Calamari admiral. What better way for Kanan and Ezra to have another fight with Lord Vader. Potentially Ezra and Kanan sacrifice themselves so Raddus and the rest of the crew can escape. Vader killing them both.

Not to mention the voice actor for Raddus is Stephen Stanton, a regular on the show and voice of Tarkin and Ben Kenobi.

Give your thoughts on my theory! And give me thoughts on your own! The Ghost crew has gotta' be doing more than basic space support.

I like your idea. After watching Zero Hour, I feel that next season will be the last season of Rebels. Most characters have completed their arcs. Furthermore, they are moving close to the events of Rogue One and A New Hope. While Hera, Sabine and Zeb could become a part of the Alliance, the presence of Kanan and Ezra would be strange. People have suggested that either or both may turn to the dark side or leave the Rebellion, but that seems to go against their characters, especially now that Maul will no longer influence Ezra. The battle of Scarif might be a fitting end for the series. In September 2018, the new series (that is already in development) can start.

I thoughts on how Rebels is going to end will give us at least 2 more season. I can see the more storyarc on the Rebels crew. More leaning towards Hera and Kanan/Ezra. I can see Ezra still being alive since he is not a Jedi and see him be an Ahsoka type character. Season 4 can give us more Saw Guerra and possibilities of the R1 crew as the Rebel crew journey through planets like Jedha and introducing the Geonosis(death star/kyber crystal which was supposed to be on TCW series). I would like to see Kanan more into the force like a Qui Gon and meet Yoda on Dagobah for his final story arc to end. I can see Season 4 where its a big win for the Hera where we see her get promoted to General like in R1. Get a Han Solo in character. I can see Zeb go back home with to help his people like Sabine and Kallus joing the Ghost crew in his place. Season 4 can end in a good/evil way with Hera promoted while the Death Star goes fully operational into orbit.

Season 5 i think will be the last. I can see Vader/Emperor sense the force through Kanan/Ezra and while that goes on you can attached the R1 timeline while Season 5 is going. We can see How Jyn goes to jail, maybe helping the Rebel crew. See Saw get hurt and why he wears the breathing apparatus. Can get Sabine and possiblity of a Boba Fett story. This is where we can get a closure on Rebels, I know they wont show it but can do something similar to Maul where Vader goes through the motions of R1 while finding Kanan/Ezra and fights them somewhere(maybe Mustafar) this is prolly where Ezra watches Kanan sacrifice himself like Obi-Wan to help him escape and informs Hera in the process (why she gets called in R1) then ends on them with the battle of scarif and have Ezra(knowing about Obi-Wan) and Senator Organa and goes with him to "Alderan" to "possibly meet someone".

We all know how it would end and it would just leave the Rebels story in that way. just like Pablo said regarding "Twin Suns" episode. if you think about it just on a Rebels standpoint then you only know that the "chosen one" is possibly Luke and you get to see why Hera gets promoted and Kanan's sacrifice. Also with Ezra he goes to Alderaan with Senator Organa to help them in the rebellion not knowing that Tarkin Blows up the planet in ANH. Is that alot? Yes. I think they can fit that into 2 more seasons of Rebels and to me it would satisfy my love for Rebels(like TCW) to end in that sort of way. HOPE.

Tell me what you think about it!? may the force be with you always...

Before that, please let Ezra and Sabine follow the Kanan/Hera way, and give birth to Snoke - while Hera gives birth to a daughter (hint: Yes. We see the back of the Ghost somewhere in Episode 7).

I really hope we get a tight season 4 just to finish it off...two more seasons of filler episodes, whats that? 40 or so episodes would ruin the impact imo.

I think their final mission will link with rogue one somehow, with the team broken into 2-3 storylines.

They dont have to do any filler episodes. they can just make 2-3 story arcs with sensible 1 episode character fillers i.e. Han Solo/Saw/Yoda/Vader/Ahsoka(still think she is alive)/Kallus/Princess Leia/R1 crew. its plausible for the storygroup and Pablo to make 2 more seasons work. but if he is correct on season 4 the last season then I know its gonna be a emotional/impactful one since its so close to R1 and knowing that Kanan/Ezra will have to be gone. well kanan will have to Ezra can still fade into the galaxy since he is not a Jedi.

Oh yeah, they don't have to do filler episodes....arcs would be great....but they won't do arcs :(

We'll get 5 decent episodes and the rest will be droid nonsense and space wales.

I'd like the last mission to be the retaking of Lothal, which - in my mind - could take place right after the Battle of Scarif. It'd explain why the Rebels crew weren't attacking the Death Star, and ending the show anywhere but where it started would feel weird to me...

I still think we will have five seasons. Filoni hinted that they will deal with Mandalore and said that they won't forget Lothal - while they might not liberate it, but they could destroy the factory, we will have Rogue One tie-ins, mainly Saw Gerrera (probably his break with the rest of Alliance) and they'll probably deal with Ahsoka in some way. Plus, Thrawn. Even, with no fillers at all, I can't see them ending all of this within single season. Add the build-up to Rogue One and that tells me two seasons.

I don't know if Hera will die on Scarif, but I can't see Kanan and Ezra being there - why would Mothma make such a big deal out of Obi-Wan if she had a Jedi and a padawan at Alliance's disposal? They are either dead or gone in some other way. If Sabine lives through Mandalorian civil war, that leaves her, Zeb, Hera and Chopper. I hope they survive, but at this point I cannot make up my mind with any certainty and cannot vote. Maybe after seeing the preview of season 4.

It seems like they have a long way to go before we get to the Battle of Scariff so I don't think next season will be the last. Saw still needs to grow his hair out!

I would love to see this fight. I think Kanan and Erza would make it interesting next time they see Vader as they continue to grow and become more powerful. But I'm not sure we'll get such glorious deaths for our heroes on Disney XD.

Does anyone know if the Ghost got away before the Devastator showed up?

I believe it is not explicitly shown.

I remember someone saying there was a ship that could've been the Ghost that got smashed on its arrival, but from the distant angle it's likely just impossible to tell.

It is highly unlikely that the Ghost will be destroyed in such a way.

I love the theory with Ezra and Kanan sacrificing themselves and being defeated by Vader. Would be a dark and sad moment but a fitting end for them and the show.
I don't know if that will happen being that this is on a children's network but I do like it.
I enjoyed all the post in this thread, some really great idea's and I could see a lot of them being used, great job to all.

I think that killing the Rebels cast off during the battle of Scarif probably won't happen for a couple of reasons.
    1. The only presence of the Rebels we see in R1 is the Ghost. We know that Hera survives the battle of Scarif and since I assume it's her who's piloting the Ghost so would everyone else on board.
    2. As far as I know there were only the rebel troops we saw in R1 that fought on the Surface of Scarif. So no casulties on the ground, no casulties on the Ghost.
    3. I can't remember a Jedi except for Plo Koon that randomly died in a Spacebattle. It would seem weird to just kill of the heros of the series in such an unpersonal way.
    4. Theoretically only the two Jeid Kanan and Ezra need to go as they are the only ones contradicting Canon due to their Jedi status. They don't necessarily need to die however they could just become gray Jedi like Ahsoka. The rest of teh crew can live happily ever after without contradicting Canon.
    5. I think Rex can be seen fighting on Endor in Jedi so we know that he will survive.
    6. Filoni is not a big fan of killing off characters just because other shows like Game of Thrones and The Wlaking Dead are doing it constantly. He said that when talking about Kallus who survived his confrontation with Thrawn.
    7. It's a kids show.
    8. When they shot R1 they had scripts where Jyn and Cassian survived which means that at one point they considered a happy ending. They might use that happy ending for SW Rebels.

Ezra and Ahsoka do not need to die. However, they can no longer be part of the Rebellion after A New Hope. The new Star Wars comics -which are canon- constantly show post-ANH Luke eager to learn more about the Force.

Leia knows that Kanan and Ezra are Jedi and Padawan and probably also knows (through Bail Organa) that Ahsoka had been one too. If Ezra and Ahsoka continue to be part of the Rebellion, then it would be strange if Leia at no point would tell Luke to talk to those Rebels from Lothal.

That is only speculation not confirmed by Lucasfilm/Disney. I believe Dave toyed with the idea but it hasn't gotten the green light. Until it is confirm by Pablo and Lucasfilm, Rex being that old guy is Jedi is just a fan theory and is just as real as Ezra being Snoke (which he isn't).
