I know where you're coming from and I do think there are a lot of people who just want to discuss TLJ with others who share their opinion, but there are at least 5 posts above yours on this page alone (including mine) by people who dislike this movie.

I genuinely wish I could see TLJ the way fans such as you do, but on my second watch I felt exactly the same as I did on the first, with the exception of really noticing how fantastic Adam Driver's performance is.

Whilst I acknowledge that there are definitely fans who have an agenda or grudge regarding the sequel trilogy or certain people involved in the production, I do think there is a significant part of the fan base that is just disappointed in TLJ for no reason other than it's failings as a film.

Regardless of whether I am watching the latest installment of a series I love, or a random movie I never heard of there are certain things that make or break a movie for me, and I'm sad to say that TLJ failed in that regard for me.

I have liked this film more each time I have seen it! I think I was caught up in what I thought would/should happen  I originally gave it a 5 first the time, then a 7 the second time - Now I give it a 9!

I think we have been too harsh...

I saw it for a fourth time today and for me it's seriously hands down the best Star Wars movie. Fourth time, and still I was completely immersed in a story, still had goosebumps, held my breath during certain scenes, got emotional during others. I absolutely love it, and I think I am addicted to it, I want to see it again.

I was in theatre with my friend and her father, who saw OT movies in cinema. He was grinning from ear to ear after credit started to roll. Both of them loved it just as I do.

I liked it a lot. Number 3 viewing will be tomorrow, maybe number 4 Christmas day...

I enjoyed the Force Awakens, and I appreciate what JJ was trying to do with the nostalgia and all that. Heck, after the blowback for The Last Jedi, I can see why he decided to go in a different direction from the original script and involve the old characters more.

Having said that, I liked this one more. I love the old, tired, world weary and war torn Luke. I like how he has, in essence, become the "crazy old wizard" like "old Ben Kenobi."

There is a lot I like about it. I'd put it up there in third place right now (for me) behind V and IV. The originality and the way it has cleared the decks for IX and even beyond is just perfect. For the first time in a long time we can have an original Star Wars film with IX, and that's a good thing.

I was just okay with it after the first viewing, but I felt it was one that would grow on me. Sure enough it did. I felt about Rogue One the way you feel about this one. I still watch Rogue One almost once a month, after four viewings in the cinema.

I saw the movie for the second time yesterday and I went from really liking the movie to loving it. My daughters who both loved it the first time thought it was better the second time. My wife who likes Star Wars but is not an avid fan like the girls and myself also liked it. She likes the fact that they are phasing out the old characters and putting more emphasis on the new characters.

The movie had more of an emotional effect on me the second time. Now that the newness and shock was over I could really appreciate Luke and Leia’s reunion and Luke’s death more. The emotion of it definitely touched me more the second time.

I know it was controversial but I thought Luke’s arc was phenomenal. Once JJ made it so Luke isolated himself in the island, it created a challenge on how to portray Luke. Luke was once again humanized for us. He had one moment of weakness and gave into his fear. Although he realized giving in was wrong, he realized it a moment too late and it had consequences. Luke suffered failure like he had never had before and he had never before. It took good, old Master Yoda to give him one last lesson to bring back the old Luke Skywalker. On an aside, I can’t help but smile every time I see Yoda in this movie. Once back, Luke demonstrates the ultimate power in the Force. He came back and saved his sister and the remnants of the Resistance. He created one last legend of Luke Skywalker which will continue to give hope in the galaxy.

Kylo is the most complex villain we have seen and it will be interesting to see him moving forward.

It has clearly set up Rey as the hero moving forward. She is now definitely the last Jedi. It will be interesting to see if Kylo and she keep any type of connection through the Force.

I know some don’t like the pacing but I thought the transition from one storyline to the next was done well and came across smooth.

    Visually the movie was stunning

Rey being a nobody sets forth a powerful message. I felt like since TFA that she would be a random. Maz pretty much tells her that her parents aren’t coming back and that she knows it. Kylo sees inside of her and sees the same thing Maz did. He just makes her admit it.

Leia in space is still executed poorly but it was still tolerable. The one thing I liked about it was that for a brief moment her face did resemble the young Leia we all fell in love with. This part along with Luke milking the creature on the cliff are my least favorite part.

I don’t get the argument that TLJ ignored TFA. The number one question that TFA posed was what happened to Kylo that made Luke go into exile and why did Luke stay in exile for so long. That was answered. How Maz got the lightsaber is insignificant. She blows it off as a story for another day in TFA. The problem was that in TFA’s initial inception the lightsaber was the Mcguffin. We were going to follow its path. The flashback was going to show this. Then JJ changed it. It can be addressed in canon elsewhere.

The Knights of Ren while it will be cool to learn more, do not need to be explained right away in this movie. Rian hinted at that it may be some of Luke’s old students. Off JJ wants to answer it in IX he can if he finds it important.

Snoke’s past was only important if he was going to be the big bad moving forward. Instead he was the vehicle to make Kylo the big bad. While his backstory can be interested it is not something we need to know right away. It can be addressed in canon elsewhere

All of a sudden the fandom thinks every detail of everything referenced in a movie needs to be explained. The OT put us in the middle of a story and made lots of references. The characters in the movie new them. But the audience did not. It allowed us to use our imaginations. I don’t know why things have to be different now.

Overall, I loved the movie. I think it is the best of the new films (I liked R1 but it didn’t do it for me like it did for some). Sorry this was so long.

    9/10

Still love the movie after third viewing!

Did find an awkward moment between puppet Yoda and Luke. Yoda chastising Luke about failure and giving up...reminded myself that Yoda lost to the Sidious and gave up...went into exile. I guess it takes a failure to know a failure?

I loved it. For the past two years, Ive always went to see them a second time on Christmas Eve before joining that family festivities. I'm not sure if I will be able to do that this year. I'm a little bummed about it.

Why couldn't this have been an original Star Wars film? Why did we have to wait through 2 movies to get an original take? That makes no sense.

TFA was a complete ANH ripoff.

Now, TLJ was ESB remixed with a dash of ROTJ. Even you admit "IX now has potential to be original..."???

This entire trilogy seems unoriginal and tacked on. What is it adding to the saga?

Other than money, why not just skip to a new trilogy/saga?

I'm not asking you, or anyone who cares to respond, to defend liking it. Different strokes for different folks.

I am genuinely curious what people feel this trilogy is adding to the saga of Annakin, Luke, Leia, etc.

How does this trilogy fit? How does it help complete the story?

Other than money, would this trilogy have suffered at all by simply being set 100 years after the OT and been an "Episode 1" of a new saga?

Because to me, it really feels like fan fiction. And even at that, I don't get this strong desire to "kill the past" and move beyond the Skywalkers, in what Disney even refers to as the "Skywalker saga"...

The Last Jedi is a fantastic movie and a powerful Star Wars tale; can't wait to watch it again next week!

I've loved Star Wars since the early 80s, and Luke's story was always the most important to me; I adore how they handled Luke in TLJ and I'm so happy they gave him such a strong and emotional arch in this one. Having loved the OT basically all my life, and having watched those films far more often than what's healthy, it almost feels like sacrilege to say this, but The Last Jedi is EASILY my favorite SW film (although, of course, this is only because the OT set down such a fantastic foundation). I'm honestly more stoked about the future of Star Wars now than I've ever been (and I've always been optimistic to Disney taking on the franchise).

I know 13th can be unlucky but I got a lucky meeting with a few fans from my 2nd & 3rd viewing who still can't get enough of this movie.

When Luke and Leia reunited why did the seat move when he sat down considering he was a force projection and he didn’t make a mark in the salt?

He must have been able to tread carefully. It was quite a reunion. I was thought it would've happened on her ship but I'm glad it didn't.

It seems Luke was able to interact physically at will, just like Yoda. Yoda hit luke with his cane and then conjured lightning. Luke touched Leia's hands, kissed her and gave her the dice.

After my third viewing my reaction is not so much about TLJ as it is about The Force Awakens. By the time I saw TFA for the third time I was done with it (though I saw it once more in theater with someone who didn't), I got from it everything I could. I like TFA a lot, but personally I am rewatching Rogue One more often. It's a great movie to bring you back to the galaxy, but TLJ has depth and subtlety his predecessor doesn't.

I just came back from the theater and I already want to see TLJ again. The rewatchability factor is unbelievable and I am enjoying it more and more. Every time, I notice something else and I still missed some of the details others caught. What was jarring before flows much better and makes for more enjoyable watch.

For example, I noticed two FO officers snickering behind Hux's back while Poe is trolling him. Who'd know there is a sense of humor in FO? :) I noticed Hamill's mannerism in a little alien he mo-caped.

Who knows, maybe by the end of the theatrical run, I will bump its grade from 8 (as I voted) to nine. We'll see.

Even after my 3rd viewing, I still can't figure it out whether Kylo Ren is really that dumb ?????
What was that scene all about Kylo Ren having a temper tantrum and hell bent on killing Luke Skywalker.
Kylo orders all FO guns to fire on Luke and he seems unharmed, when Hux says "Do you think you got him ?"
I mean at this moment doesn't this thought occur to Kylo that Luke is not really there ???
Yet he goes down to face Luke for a light sabre duel and loses the overall plot to finish off Resistance once and for all and then he realizes that Luke is not really on Crait but he was stalling Kylo from his objective.

A few minutes back prior to this scene we see Kylo Ren rising to a stature of FO leader.
Kylo uses Rey and Snoke situation in the throne room very shrewdly to kill Snoke and team up with Rey to finish off praetorian guards. Man to me that was a bold move by Rian Johnson and it did work very brilliantly. It elevated Kylo Ren's character to next level and cemented his place as the ultimate baddie, who is hell bent on pursuing his own agenda instead of being a puppet to Snoke. He is gone completely dark.

After a few minutes later, fast forward to Crait we get to see our old teenage Kylo Ren having temper tantrums and being reckless like a teenage kid.
So Kylo Ren in TLJ goes from being shrewd to dumb. It's really inconsistent.
Hux is Kylo Ren's punching bag in TLJ.

If there is a FO officer who reminded me of old Imperial chaps from OT, it is Captain Moden Canady of dreadnought class Fluminatrix. Even though he had a very little screen time at the opening sequence his performance was astute and the character was very reminiscent of Imperial officers from OT.

On the other hand, Hux from TFA has become a punching bag of Kylo Ren.
Seriously Hux in TFA is menacing and as well as cunning but in TLJ his character is a comic relief and punching bag of Kylo Ren.

this is whats annoying me about alot of people defending the film, people accusations that other people don't like it becuase it takes chances I have no problem with the chances the film takes but you have to make a coherent film around those chances.

Like fine your gonna Kill Snoke off and Have Kylo become the big bad, that could off been absutlly brilliant, if u'd told me that before the film i probably would have thought thats sounds cool can't wait to see it!
But the way they did it , i mean Snoke was just a knock off the emperor who no one cared about so his death felt hollow, unforfilling and meaningless, yet give the guy a cool back story make him seem incredibly powerful and his death would have felt completely different.
Same with Kylo, at the start of the trilogy if you plan on him becoming the main villian half way through the second instalment then that could have been awesome, but instead they spent a film and a half making him look like an angsty conflicted teenager like character, big him up for ten seconds make him the supreme leader, then have him back to being school boy tantrum bloke about 20 mins later. The idea he is the trilodgies main villain is just ridiculous, especially when he's combined with Hux who seems to think he's in a panto.

Like i said in my orgianl review, it just seemed like all Johnson was interested in was shocking and surprising audiences, and had no intrest making a coherent story.

I liked it. Cried like an emo walking across a Lego strewn wood floor when Luke meets Leia, and then again at the end.

It's not perfect, most of my criticisms aren't the ones people are talking about... maybe when I've seen it a couple more times.
