I'd go one further. They could just as easily have had Bo Katan tell Din that she'd heard tales that Jedi can communicate with others of their kind from a certain location on Tython. Din's whole quest to find the Jedi was started by little more than the armorer invoking the "legend" that Mandalore once fought a race of sorcerers after all.

Sure, I can appreciate people seeing it that way. In subsequent viewings, I've made myself see it that way too. But my gut reaction, which I still can't shake off, was "ugh, here they go again with the medal". This moment turned the celebration sequence at the end from "appropriately emotional" to "sugary" for me.

I think it all comes down to her beliefs and honour, Bo never won the darksaber in the first place and her reign clearly didn't go well at all. I don’t think she'd want to have it handed over to her for a second time as that would mean she's practically cheated her way to the top again, it would make her look and feel bad, less honourable. I feel like her refusing actually strengthens her character, as Mandos are warriors and she knows that better than anyone and is willing to accept her failures rather than letting her pride get the better of her.

Moff Gideon says as much--"the story is what matters." If Bo was ruler of Mandalore when all the Purge and destruction and who knows what all else happened to Mandalore via the Empire...ouch. If she's going to rule again, she needs legend, tradition, bloodline, and everything else she can get behind her. She needs the story of defeating another in combat to come into possession of the darksaber.

I'm going to take a wait-and-see attitude toward how Bo's pride plays out. They made a specific point in this episode of Bo getting accusatory with Boba over being a clone and not a true Mandalorian. I don't really blame her, really--I'm sure there were still clones as stormtroopers when all the destruction of Mandalore went down. And he's a nonMandalorian wearing Mandalorian armor, which is a sore spot. And although she and her pals were very kind to Din in chapter 11 over Grogu, I'm not sure she is on board with the whole Foundlings being true Mandalorians thing after what she said about Jengo. (Does she know Din is a Foundling?) So, although she says she wants to unite Mandalorians...her actions are kind of speaking louder than her words.

Still, we'll see how it plays out. I find Bo really interesting since she is a "good guy" but with all kinds of complicated motives that make her even grayer than Din in some ways.

EDIT: I should add that if Gideon was the one who took the darksaber from Bo to begin with, in Bo's mind (and maybe in the minds of the Mandalorian's she'd rule), she probably needed to have defeated him in combat to get the darksaber back.

I think you nailed it, it's also worth remembering that Bo was once second in command of DeathWatch, before seeing Pre Vizsla die at the hands of Maul. So theres naturally a grey area in her character since she's been on both sides.

True. It's worth remembering that she renounced being part of DeathWatch too--it's no small thing to recognize that you were wrong and you did something to change it.

I for one love all kind of fan service. This is a franchise that is over 40 years old and spans across all media that I've followed as much I can for most of my life. It feels nice to be rewarded for it sometimes. So yes soak me with all the service!

If it connects more to a story then obviously it's better but I'll take any easter eggs given. This a huge galaxy but so much is connected

Any theories as to how Luke found the ship's location? Seems a bit convenient that Luke shows up to save the day on a ship that no one could find. Someone floated the idea the Fett sent him the location, but why Fett would be helping Luke would need some explanation.

There's something special about the way Boba remembers his father. Genuine, deep respect.

Bo Katan is a Death Watch terrorist. Always has been.
She only splintered when Maul & Randy Savage got the Dark Saber before she could. "Muh no outsiders."

** THE RESCUE credits start rolling **
    ** a few minutes later **.
    (...)
    - Bib Fortuna?
    - What?
    - I swear I just saw his name on the screen.
    - Did we miss him as a cameo, or something?
    - I told you I saw his name. It doesn't make sense. This episode didn't have him. The story was so far a way from his world.
    - Perhaps we missed him in a previous episode and they're acknowledging all characters of the season?
    - No way. Someone must have spot it and made a 10-minute video breakdown about it by now.
    - And he was killed in ROTJ, right?
    - Yeah, he was killed in the explosion, near the Sarlacc pit.
    - Perhaps it's a name of one of their companies. Like Skywalker Sound or Rancho Obi-Wan.
    - That would make more sense. A financial firm, perhaps? "Bib Fortuna... Holdings" or something. They have to manage so much money for their productions.
    - We should google it.
    - Or maybe it's just someone's real name. Some hard-core fan must have named his son after a Star Wars character. People do that.
    - And that kid ended up working for Lucasfilm, his dad's dream.
    - Meant to be.

** Credits end. After credit scene starts**

(dialog in very, very silent voice... respecting the majesty of any Star Wars scene)
    - That's Tatooine.
    - Jabba's Palace.
    - What the F...?
    - Perhaps, this is where Bib....
    - ... but he was dead.
    - We never really saw him dying on screen.
    - THAT'S HIM !!!!

    ** Fett kills Bib **
    - Now we did.

As much as I like her character, seeing her become antagonistic again would be really interesting to see.

    For those who don't know:

"We are the Death Watch, descendants of the true warrior faith all Mandalorians once knew. Now my people are living in exile because we will not abandon our heritage. Our people were warriors. Strong. Feared! Now they're ruled by the New Mandalorians who think that being a pacifist is a good thing. They've given away our honor and tradition for peace. Duchess Satine and her corrupt leadership are crushing our souls, destroying our identity. That is our struggle." Pre Vizla

The Death Watch was a Mandalorian terrorist splinter group that opposed the pacifist government of Mandalore.

It was the R2 unit. Change my mind. lol

Randy was great meme during the show.

My guess is that Bo Katan wished to downplay Boba's paternal connection with Jango because Jango had some blood claim to a position, if not THE position, of power in Mandalore that rivals hers. Only recognising Boba as a clone undermines the succession of that claim from Jango to him.

Awesome finale. Great stand alone episode while also tying the series together (finding Grogu a Jedi to train him) - and setting up the next series ( Din Djarin ending up with the dark sabre).

Obviously the key moment is Luke, I'm not ashamed to say i welled up a bit when to see Luke. It was a bitter sweet moment, I personally have dreamed of seeing Mark Hamill play Luke as a fully fledged Jedi Knight or Master for 30+ years. And after the writers and directors of the sequel trilogy decided to go in the subversion direction with Luke it seemed like that that dream was finally dead. So seeing a glimpse of it was amazing and sad all that the same time, knowing that we will only ever get a glimpse of Luke as a Jedi, never the full adventure. It will always make me sad.

But for this episode it was great, yes the de-aging was a bit dodgy especially when Luke spoke but i don't care I was so happy to see even a glimpse of Luke as a jedi!

Not sure about the Book of Boba Fett, another story set in this time period? we already have the Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Rangers of the new republic, its a bit over kill I would like to have seen them expand a bit more. But of course i'll watch it.

I do like the set up for the next series of the mandalorian, they needed to change up the formula, and the only way to do that was move on from the finding a teacher from Grogu story line, ive loved it but another season of it would become tiresome, so they had to draw a line under it and that was either by Grogu leaving or him giving up on been trained, which i don't think would have been satisfying.

So drawing a line under that and having season 3 be about retaking mandalore is perfect. Can't wait!
