Dammit! I didn't know that by clicking REPLY that it would expose the SPOILER tag!!!

Well, damn. I know that the Premiere event and some of the screeners sent out were 2 episodes, it's a no-no to discuss, and kinda a sh**ty thing to do if these content creators were allowed a preview and then spilled a spoiler. They should have all privileges revoked for future screenings.

They must sign an NDA so all privaleges will be revoked. Grace Randolph a youtuber I follow that gets screeners said that you can skip chapter 17 but chapter 18 is where the fun begins, or simply important to watch paraphrasing of course.

I meant it was wrong for the YT creators to spoil from privileged info that they were allowed to see.

It's funny, I remember when Bad Batch S2 came out, just about every SW channel got 14 of the 16 episodes at once, and I thought, no way would it go all season without a leak... I haven't heard one yet.

More errands to run, I see. Catching us up from last season. And why didn't the mandos just run the hell away from the big gator monster? We needed five minutes of that? Not a great season premier. I've been a huge fan of the Mando series but the serial nature everyone loves to cite did this particular episode no favors, IMO. Eight episodes. Roughly a half hour each, right? Was hoping we'd get a better use of our time. I'm sure they'll rebound.

Why didn't Mandalorians run away from a fight?

Go into the corner and think about what you just said! :p

Srsly though, I don't disagree with your post. But I think part of the point of the scene was to show us that Mandos are ready to throw hands at the drop of a helmet.

Well... what do you want from the show? Mando and his buddies sitting around a coffee shop engaged in witty banter? Maybe a workplace mockumentary type scenario into the small town government of Nevarro?

The giant gator battle was not one of the series' finest moments (it felt a little bit like a rehash of the Krayt dragon from last season's premeir) but it certainly wasn't bad. On rewatch, it was fun to see the 'Apostate' swoop in the 'save the day' for the Watch.

No, it certainly wasn't bad -- they're masters at making great action sequences. I just felt it was an odd place to enter the new season. My first assumption was we were seeing a flashback to when Din was being "baptized." But he just returned to the Armorour to ask the same question and get the same answer as he'd received last season. Anyway, like I said, I'm sure they'll rebound.

Yeah, sorta... I took it more like giving us a chance to see The Armorer and her rebuilt Covert. It gives a bit more gravity that Din is so determined to get back into the good graces of a strong Leader of Men, and not just some crazy lady hiding out on a hula-hoop space station with one meathead follower. Whatever amount of time has passed, he's been doing some legwork and preparation for a potentially dangerous voyage. I'd want to just check-in with mom, too, and just make sure he was on the right path for redemption, which right now at least, seems his top priority.

As far as the gator-turtle, it was better looking than the Krayt, and it definitely set the pace for the rest of the episode.
This too. Some of the reaction that the group gave to Din seemed like, "Dude, we had that under control..." These folks are raised to fight. We know we are in for more Mandalorian warfare as the story moves on.
I think they absolutely had a checklist that they wanted to hit certain SW themes to really push the "feel" of the show right from the start. They did it and they did it well.

Like @MBWilson said, his return visit to the Armorer gave viewers a chance to see that her Covert had greatly expanded since the last time Din saw her. Most viewers assumed at the time that -- given she had only one follower left -- her Covert was on its last leg.

But it did much more than that. Their last exchange (in TBoBF Episode 5) didn't really have a 'mission feel' to it. The Armorer told Din he was 'a Mandalorian no more." When he asked how he could be redeemed, she replied that "only by bathing in the living waters below the Mines of Mandalor."

Trouble is, Din responded to her by saying, "but the mines have been destroyed" to which she replies, "This is the Way" (which I and other fans interpreted as meaning 'I guess you're screwed then.' While there was some speculation in the aftermath of the episode that this would be Din's new quest, it certainly wasn't made clear.

Their reunion in this episode made it crystal clear to viewers that: 1) finding the living waters underneath Mandalore might actually be a 'doable' quest; and 2) the Armorer acknowledged she would consider him redeemed if he did it. We also learned from Bo that the mines weren't destroyed and where he could find them. Last but not least, we learned Din wanted a revitalized IG-11 to join him and Grogu.

In my opinion, that was quite a bit of additional information.

Great chapter 17 indeed, My favourite part was off course the Anzellan crew debating fixing & not fixing IG-11 with Mando & Grogu giving one a hug to remember. Bad baby.

The opening scene was somewhat odd after a second watch. A good fake-out to make us think we were witnessing Din's acceptance of the Creed. What I found interesting was the repeated scenes of "Watch Covert" members going in to save each other regardless of the danger to themselves. It was almost mindless in a way, or maybe call it selflessness?

In the Mandalorian culture, fierce loyalty to one's brothers and sisters in the Covert is highly valued. By contrast, attachments of any kind are frowned upon by the Jedi.

I've heard tell of an ancient Favfiloni prophesy which states that someday (likely 500-600 years in the GFFA's future) a charismatic leader shall emerge who will bring balance to The Force by forging an alliance between the often-warring Mandalorians and Jedi.

And if he's smart, he'll hopefully bring to an end the crazy way Jedi Knights have thought about attachments. THIS is the Way!

And I suppose it marked the contrast between her covert and Bo Kataan, who is alone.

DING. DING. DINGGGG! That is an amazing point. I'm really getting the feeling that this could be The Bo-Katan Show for a major part of the season. I was surprised to see her start S3 as broken, but it's fairly obvious she's about to snap out of it and hopefully truly come into her own.

It's crazy to say, considering her status in the Sci-fi community, but 2023 may very well be the year of Katee Sackoff. She's getting a LOT of media attention and watching her in this week's press tour, she has put everything into her character and her story this season. Pedro is gettin' his due and I am thrilled that Katee may be joining him in that "Household Name Hot Sh*#" status.
