    We now know Forest Whitaker plays Saw Gerrera from the Clone Wars cartoon.

    I enjoyed the Onderon arc in TCW, and found him to be a decent enough character in that story. It looks like a lot has happened to him since then, which explains his lines in the teaser.

    What are y'all's thoughts on this news?

    I am glad they are taking an animated series character into a live action. Is this the first one? Not sure. But it is good to see that kind of continuity.

    I watched the clone wars and I never really liked it so i was still like: Who?
    But ok, interesting. Is fun to see that they bring animated characters to live action :)

    I agree, it was needed, I think; they've mentioned how the Story Group is making efforts to tie things together more, but I hadn't seen any large evidence of that like here.

    His eye color also seems to have changed since the show:

    I wonder if they reshot a lot of his scenes for the new 'do, or if it's CGI...?

    I'm curious about the hair change as well. Wonder if he shaves it in the movie, which would be weird, or they reshot his scenes?

    I have a hunch it is not, simply because of the mention in the film that chronologically takes place right after this one (ANH) mentions a planet called 'Alderaan', and the pronunciation is too similar.

    I'm betting they reshot his scenes. Or there's an explosive fireball and it singes off his hair. ;)

    Great info!

    I'm not the biggest FW fan, he always seems to just be trying to prove he's an actor (an AC-TORRR) and hams it up a bit. But I like that he is playing an established character I'd almost forgotten about. The live action show might have been pretty neat from his POV, and I'm hopeful that a lot more of those ideas are getting rolled over into the new films and TV shows.

    It's funny, when the teaser came out, FW appeared and I kinda internally eye-rolled, but now I've gotten a little tiny bit warmer to the character now that I realize I know him and he's clearly been through some hard times.

    It makes sort of sense what he says in the teaser: "What will you do when they catch you? What will you do if they break you? Would you continue to fight? What will you become?" since he was tortured and faced a personal loss.

    It promises a very interesting character. Let's hope he will not be used as Phasma in TFA. (I like Phasma but she was underused. There is so much more potential in Phasma)

    So on the topic of his hair changing from the teaser trailer to the reveal today... are the reshoots/character redesigns why Jyn Erso looks different on the cover of EW from her trailer appearance also?

    Maybe he shaves his head when he heads into battle and the version seen in the new pictures are of him in a low point in his life when he's introduced .

    I did not see this coming in ANY way, shape or form, but I'm excited that they're using an established character. I'm not sure this truly means we'll get more crossovers from more established characters, but it's a good sign of faith.

    I think it is very cool they are doing this. Hardcore fans will appreciate his backstory and appearance in the Clone Wars. He will be new to the casual fan and they won't miss anything by not knowing his backstory

    The choice to make him saw is a perfect one. His CW background story is good but can be elluded to without much trouble for casual fans. He doesn't stick out like a sore thumb in the continuity and his potential involvement in a heist like this makes perfect sense.

    Kudos to the story group for bringing animated characters to live action and for picking an interesting, minor character in first. It brings the stories together without making the universe smaller. I hope to see more of this sort of wise threading in the future.
