TLJ; Should it have been filmed in the same style as TFA?

I just want to throw in my 2 cents about the cinematography:

Steve Yedlin has implacable taste and as I am somewhat of a color nut I absolutely adore the films aesthetic.
It looks a lot more vintage than even TFA thanks to the natural grade and most of the composition.

I hope that Steve Yedlin's work will be recognized and he will get an Oscar nomination for the best cinematography (Roger Deakins should win, because an award for him has been looooong overdue and Blade Runner 2049 is also a feast to the eyes.) I don't know much about framing, blocking, lighting, etc. but the on the visual sight this film is constantly amazing. From how Rey's face was lit when she faced Snoke in front of his throne to how the camera went through the Canto Bight casino the moment we entered it, I could just go on and on and enlist mememorable shots.

You are obviously being modest :p
Also I completely agree on the award points.
If you haven't already been, Steve Yedlin's website has two amazing technical presentations that taught me more about contemporary camera technology than a hundred articles and blog posts combined: Display Prep Demo and Resolution Demo.
They are really technical though (meant for other industry folks, not really for "us").

I think the new style was an improvement. JJ is a very smart man, talented writer, and all around cool guy. Is he a gifted director? No.

I like how JJ shot The Force Awakens. But it's cool to change it up, like Rian did in Ep 8

I think the Slomo was removed from the Wampa attack in the Special Edition.
