the footage is genuine, I only wonder how it got there.

 

At least the footage is legit, when I first saw the news it was released 9 hrs ago, it's like these sites are playing catch up with the official news to only be a repeat.

hmmm ok, had a friend on the other board who said that he has some contact with MSW. Thought it was released on newspaper page, but if it is MSW then it is ok. I just don't want that anyone makes money with it.

 

Oh really contact inside MSW, nice one, as for the profit move only Disney will be making up the republic credits.

 

What I meant regarding Disney is that all their films have been mixed in Atmos ever since "Tommorow Land" came out, so that's where they have lead the charge for 3D sound... prior to that Atmos films were only coming out once a month or so, now there's like 2 to 4 films depending on the month.

In regards to 3D, most if not all Disney movies have theatrical 3D. The gripe among the home theater crowd is that the 3D doesn't end up on the blurays... so that's why I was surprised about the force awakens 3D. I think only the Marvel films are exclusively released in 3D.

7.1 theatrical is actually antiquated at this point; by that I mean that any film that has beyond 5.1 channels is Atmos. The films mixed in Atmos or DTS X are backwards compatible though, so those action movies just automatically will have dedicated 7.1 mix for 7.1 theaters but that's because film mixers use convertible systems called "beds". Same thing for home theater, for those unlucky souls who dumped all their money into dedicated 7.1 theaters, they can at least take advantage of that backward compatibility, in the long run their investment paid off!

What's cool about Atmos is that it works both ways... I have an Atmos system installed in my apartment, but Atmos can upmix 5.1 & 7.1 films to mimic Atmos. So those Disney 7.1 bluray discs sound great through the upmixer, but obviously it would be preferable to have the actual Atmos disc.

My guess is that Disney is forcing the UHD crowd to double dip, but I think they could safely start releasing UHD discs later next year? Would be real cool to have the force awakens & the original trilogy in UHD & Atmos

 

I think that it has to do partially with not enough adoption by the general public yet .

 

For sure, though in the case of Disney & some other distributors it would take literally no effort to take the theatrical Atmos mix or UHD / HDR masters & put them on disc, since that work was already done. The 7.1 / no UHD was done in spite of the existence of Atmos & UHD.

Another example; just about all bluray distributors release the UHD discs they sell with a 1080p bluray included, but never with the Atmos mix that the UHD disc has in the same package. One particularly obnoxious example is the upcoming Labyrinth release. You buy the 1080p version... it has Atmos. You buy the UHD version, which has the 1080p disc, but the disc in that package is 5.1.

I don't mind too much with TFA, I'll buy every version of it cuz it's star wars... but you know, the labyrinth? I would have been willing to buy the UHD version (I don't have a UHD player) for the 1080p if it had Atmos. But now that distributor forced my hand so I'll opt with rental of the 1080p instead... who would buy 2 copies of such an obscure flick? They won't get a double dip out of that feature, and most of the UHD releases so far fall under that categoty.

I gotta say though Disney really pissed me off with the way they handled Rebels... I was doing the Amazon purchase of the show but was one of the people that got swindled with the half of a season 2 I bought (they made no mention that it was only half a season). Then the disc came out... which was 30 bucks on amazon... which I would have been fine with, but 2 days after release the price got jacked up to 40. Sorry Disney, you just priced me out of having an interest in Rebels

 

If it works like that it sounds like it won't be a full adoption intel the end of the decade just like bluray/DVD FORMATS

 

I could live with that... then the double dip won't sting as much!

 

I think it's more than likely that VIII will most likely be released on the latest formats since it's home video/digital release is like 2 years away .

 

Wow, what a clickbait by SWNN. Adam Driver never said EPVIII is like TESB, he was only refering to the tone. So, nothing to worry about.

 

In the context of the interview, this is great. Driver was the most tight-lipped with praise for TFA, but here he's gushing about Johnson and the progress being made with the characters.

 

That's what I like to hear.
