Man, I wish, but it just looks like green tape on a camera rig :(

They’ve been doing this purposely with all the TLJ stuff so far. Certainly playing into the “TLJ is a TESB rehash” crowd...

For instance, the teaser trailer opened with the eerie screeching from Clash of Lightsabers, and the trailer from earlier this month opened up with the harp from the beginning of Rebel Fleet and the Finale.

Isn’t that pretty much what I was saying? :p

Hey, that's fine with me! I thought I was seeing correctly the first image, but it was so grainy. I'm 100% convinced now what I'm seeing is correct considering the new image.

So, I'll bet with anyone that the broad strokes I've illustrated are correct.

My point is that this was exactly what I was saying on the previous page, when I first suggested it. My point was illustrated eloquently enough for multiple users to understand it and agree with it across a number of threads before you illustrated your “broad strokes”.

You’re saying that you’re now 100% convinced about what you - not me - were saying now based on the “new image”, which didn’t need much in the ways of clearing up anyhow: as I mentioned just, plenty of people understood it just fine before you “cleaned up” the image.

It’s cool if you’ve had a change of heart or have cleaned up the image to the point that you can see where I was coming from and what I was saying before.

It’s not cool if you’re going to act like you figured this all out for yourself to the point that you’re willing to bet on it with others.

I'm not sure why you are being hostile.

What you used as a reference, and what you posted as an in-universe example, are not like what the seal/symbol is.

I made the case that rotational symmetry is unlike linear symmetry. I pointed out the 3 orbs. I pointed out how the image seems to be weighted top-to-bottom as opposed to the nature of a yin-yang (your words) which can really be viewed the same whether it is rotated 90 degrees or a full 180. (unlike this image)

These are not ANY points you addressed or brought up as novel. You simply made a claim that it was yin-yang inspired and posted an image you saw possible inspiration from.

I took what you *started* and agreed with some but pointed out aesthetic differences (I won't repeat them for a third time now). I also expanded on it and even took the time to show the actual line of symmetry to, and this is important, an individual that thinks it is apparently laughable to call the image symmetrical. NOT yourself. That was a response to another individual. Maybe you see the symmetry, great (again, yin-yangs don't have perfect/linear symmetry, nor did your SW-inspired image). But this user did not and stated as much. So I took the time to explain it in detail. Which he/she apparently still finds laughable.

Now, maybe I missed your post where you describe the symmetry as linear? Or talk about the 3 orbs and possible meaning (I elaborated on my feeling that the 'gray' or middle ground is its own entity much like the dark and light)? Or explain how the negative spaces are used in an inverse symmetry to someone saying that the image is asymmetrical?

You have apparently internalized a lot about this; even my responses that weren't to yourself (but to an individual that would seemingly be in disagreement with you). You have also claimed complete ownership when you really didn't do much to elaborate beyond 'hey, does that look like maybe a yin-yang or this image?' Congrats, you got the ball rolling. I never faulted you for it. I don't seek to steal your thunder. I thought I was illustrating the details where you had started but then left off.

BTW, your condescension and dismissal by quoting the "cleaned up" images in such a petty manner is... unbecoming. I didn't do that for your benefit. I was, again, responding to someone that was having trouble/in disagreement with seeing the symmetry. I don't see you making the case or helping to assist someone to see what we both apparently see. I'm not sure why this bothers you so. But your reply comes across as very uneccessarily haughty.

BTW, I had 'liked' your post the first time around, even though I didn't agree with the type of symmetry. I responded with my agreement and criticism. You didn't acknowledge that reply. I'm not sure if that's ego or whatever.

I was *appreciative* of your eye.

And I was under the impression that we are allowed to build on/expand upon ideas. Many of which you didn't seem to delve into. So I did. Big deal?

Edit: oh no! The 'dislike' wars begin! Even though I was never being petty, condescending, dismissive, or unfriendly; I use my words to explain.

I apologise for my hostility. It seems that there’s some miscommunication.

It seemed obvious to others - yourself included - and to myself what the similarities were. We agree that the images show the same symbol.

My irritability and hostility ultimately stems from miscommunication on the previous page: you still say that I referred to it as a Yin Yang symbol, but I didn’t.

As I explained on the previous page, I was careful with my wording. It is styled like a Yin Yang symbol - “Yin Yang styled”. The appearances between the Mortis symbol and this aren’t too dissimilar: both monochromatic, both massive circular symbols in the ground, both symmetrical, both seems to be enclosed within a black ring with gold parts - you raise a good point about rotational symmetry as opposed to typical linear symmetry - and so on.

Again, I am not claiming that it is a Yin Yang or that it shares rotational symmetry: I’m saying that this is very clearly inspired by Yin Yang, rotational symmetry or not. The idea is about duality - not rotational symmetry - which this symbol clearly represents.

As for my quotation of “cleaned up” images, I was doing just that: quoting your exact phrasing. You phrased it as such; I quoted it as such.

I am not claiming ownership of this idea, or at least that was not my aim, and if it comes across that way, again: my apologies.

I think we’ve got off on the wrong foot. It looks like I took your response to someone else as being directed towards me, and thought that you were saying that what you saw (the similarity in the two images showing the same symbol) wasn’t evident in the images I posted with the same symbol.

Deepest apologies, @PlagueisLivesDuh , I hope that you can forgive me for my hostility and misunderstanding.

On a side note, I hadn’t seen your further exploration of the symbol and it’s meaning before, but I like your ideas! :)

@Julius Fett LOL, want to know the real kicker?

You were right! I went back to the other thread, CONVINCED that I had made a post on it, to quote myself from a previous time.

(I started typing up as much when I saw you had responded in a very positive, needlessly apologetic tone)

    https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet....railer-a-closer-look.52926/page-3#post-419382
(this was where you first made the connection)

I had not only liked your post, but my FIRST REPLY was "great call".

However, even then I could not tell that it was symmetrical! I even stated as much! (f****** egg on my face!). Although I did point out that it was too grainy to tell. I thought I was seeing something with organic shapes. I thought we might even be seeing something like an ouroboros (due to initial graininess it was hard to see exact 50-50 distribution of light and dark... that right-side dark orb has all but disappeared in the first image).

It was vaguely reminiscent of a yin-yang in palette and in symmetry (of any type).

    But....

You had already pointedly said that much!

I was so caught up on the allusion to the yin-yang I missed you saying it was symmetrical.

Truly, honestly, I thought I had genuinely been the one to see the symmetry in a linear fashion as opposed to the thematic fashion of a yin-yang (again: linear vs rotational symmetry). If I had to guess I'd say at some point it crystallized to me and when I saw your new post with the new image it was very clear what was being portrayed in the seal.

Looking back though it seems I. Was. Wrong.

The one kicker is you didn't say 'linear'! Got you there! buwuhahahaha

Although I'm sure that was implied! Doh.

If anyone should be apologizing, it should be ME! I'm sorry.

I'm going to go commit seppuku with a lightsaber now....

Biggest problem with the Internet, I find, is that though it’s easy to communicate with other humans but nearly impossible to humanly communicate.

I’m sure that if we were sitting down around a table that we would have just come to this conclusion and pondered seriously and laughed about the possibilities. I mean, black and white, it has to be something to do with robe colours, right? :p seriously though, your points were exceptional, and though I didn’t respond to your Ouroboros post before I thought it was a great idea!

But seriously: apologies again for my hostile post.

Even if you were wrong - which I don’t think you were: just seems like there were a few too many similar conversations going on to keep up with what was going on, for both of us - that doesn’t excuse the hostility and annoyance conveyed in my post towards you.

    I truly am sorry @PlagueisLivesDuh .

We can commit double seppku now.

    I know a guy.

lol. No, you were actually correct in your assertion that I had come around to see what you saw in the first place! I can't stop cracking up about how wrong I was on this one. I mean I was *convinced* and searching for my previous post for that 'take that!' quote of myself just to attack you lololol.

Then I see how, initially, I was telling you it was asymmetrical. Maybe. *shoots self*

It's funny how the brain works. My memory is usually pretty reliable. Or so I thought. If anything I might have glossed over and internalized YOUR post in thinking it was my own. Again; hung up on the yin-yang. My focus was more on the images you posted and less on the words accompanying them.

The ouroboros was SO WRONG. I was trying to (almost literally) square the circle of an image that SEEMS symmetrical but due to graininess may have some asymmetrical features. My mind filled in the blanks with animal features. At first it was a dragon. Later, I described it as a butterfly.

Just like looking at passing clouds.

At least I tried to convey this initial confusion over the graininess by calling it a Jedi Rorschach!

Yes, I do think IRL, in real time, this would have been completely non-issue and even a productive/positive/contributory discussion of what the image might be portraying or inspired from as it was broken down and itemized/analyzed.

It's even more hilarious because just like the poster I was trying to convince (@lealt ) I too had initially thought it was asymmetrical and saw some sort of image that wasn't there.

    But... I've come around. Bahahaha

    @PlagueisLivesDuh @Julius Fett

Just to clarify that I'm not laughing at your idea.
And to be 100% clear, it wasn't me to give you any "funny".

The first time, yes, I said that to me it doesn't look symmetrical (I do believe the Ying-Yan is symmetrical, even if not linear).
But I wasn't making fun of any of your arguments. I was just saying what I see.

Then PlagueisLivesDuh replied and again I didn't laugh.
I said I'll wait for a better pic, because his arguments are interesting.
But I'm not 100% sure that's the case just because I (again "I") don't see the images that clearly.
That beside his efforts and explaination, it's just not my cup of tea to reverse angles etc...

Thus he may be right. I don't really know.

My intention was to give him the benefit of doubt.

Sorry if the impression was another one.

As for DJ being dressed in uniform accompanying Finn and Rose onto what we think might be Snoke's ship, there IS some speculation floating around that DJ may be Captain Cardinal...mentioned in the Phasma novel as Phasma's predecessor.

I didn't read it, but she apparently left him for dead and took his command...and he has a score to settle with her. If he's a former FO officer that's well versed in command and control protocol AND a slicer, he might have the abilities to get them in, AND if he's indeed Cardinal, Maz and her "Underground Network" probably found him and directed the Resistance to him.

    Just a theory...not mine, but a theory nonetheless. :)
