I was playing a little Elite: Dangerous earlier, but I went exploring and I'm hours away from civilization and felt like shooting or punching something and I found these on XBOX Live Arcade...

I played through and beat a ROM of the arcade version of Double Dragon not that long ago (the first time I've done it solo but I beat it in the arcade with a friend back in the day) and I think I've the NES ROM a couple times in recent years but this will be the first time I've played II and III in probably 30 years.

I'm farther along than ever was in the WiiU version, and I'm genuinely enjoying the game now. While I don't care for the story, or the fact that this game is basically a harem anime in all but name, or the music videos (...or the music...) I like the gameplay and the characters aren't terrible. I just recruited Mamori and now all I need is "Edgy Swordsman Guy," and I should have the complete cast.

There are some issues with the gameplay that come from a Post-Persona 5 world, but I can forgive the game...mostly.

Noodling out how a sequel to this game would work has been super fun as well.

Overall, for fans of Persona, J-Pop and Idols, and/or harem-lite animes, this is a must-have.

Apart from VR games (bought a while ago VR headset and I absolutely love it) I also often play flash games like basketball all stars and alchemy game. Usually I play flash games at work and VR games when I am home.

Now let me start by saying I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS GAME FOR ANYONE. Gatcha games are the worst, and while Heroes isn't as bad as some from what I've heard, it's still a gatcha game and now worth playing. It's like gambling or loot crates. DON'T DO IT. I play Heroes because 1) I'm trash, 2) I like most things Fire Emblem related, and this is only half of an exception, and 3) it's cool for all of those head-canon/fanfiction ideas and meetings you always wanted but never had.

If you ever thought Marisa and Ephraim would be a cute couple, Heroes is your place to make that happen. You ship Lucina and Ryoma? S support them in Heroes! If you have an extremely fanfiction-y head-canon where most of the games happen over a series of generations (Awakening is the first generation. FE 7, Sacred Stones, and Fates Gen 1 is second generation. Fates Gen 2, Binding Blade, and Three Houses are the third generation) so that you can have a world where Soleil, Shigure, and Saul are all the children of Chrom!Inigo and Azura, and you have a support chain for them based in Three House's world...and in this world, Soleil and Dorothea dated before coming to Garrag Mach (separately, but they meet again) you can make that team!

...minus Saul because he's not in the game...don't judge me...

I usually don't consider this a game that I "play," but I'm taking a break from TMS for a moment, and while I want to try out Uncharted again (I have the trilogy on my PS4), I'm not super motivated to do so at this moment. Sometime later this week maybe.

If you're interested in Fire Emblem, I recommend starting with Path of Radiance (GameCube...if you can find it), Awakening (3DS), Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS) or Three Houses (Switch). FE 7/Fire Emblem is also a great place to start if you don't mind emulating games. But if you do mind emulating games and you don't have any of the mentioned systems...Heroes isn't the worst place to start playing Fire Emblem (although it's down there).*

*The worst places to start playing Fire Emblem will be listed below, but before that, I just want to say that 1) THIS LIST IS SUBJECTIVE, and 2) Any game that gets fans to play Fire Emblem is a great place to start. My list below has more to do with overall exposure to the franchise in an accurate way than anything else - you don't want to go into FE thinking it's going to be a cute sort of harem anime visual novel and discover not only do you have to learn tactics in-game, but there's also no harem! Anyways, the list:

Dragalia Lost (Mobile Game). I genuinely know nothing about this game, but it's another Nintendo gatcha game, which means its more likely to attract people to Heroes via occasional crossover than it is a proper Fire Emblem game.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Encore) (WiiU for the original game, Switch for Encore). TMS is not a Fire Emblem game, it's Persona-lite with Fire Emblem characters. It's setting, gameplay, and style are all something not found in Fire Emblem, so one does like this game, then they should probably pick up Persona 5 (Royal), because TMS shares a stronger connection to THAT game than it does another Fire Emblem game. Amusingly, I'd go further and say that P5(R) actually has more in common with Fire Emblem Three Houses than TMS does. Lastly, if you're playing Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore, that means you have a Switch, and you can pick up/could have picked up Fire Emblem Three Houses as a starter game.

Fire Emblem Warriors (3DS, Switch). Like TMS, this is more of a Musou/Warriors with Fire Emblem characters than it is a Fire Emblem game. ...at least from what I've heard. There are promotions, 8-bit maps, and supports however, making it more like traditional Fire Emblem than what came before. What makes me rank this game lower than Heroes isn't actually the gameplay this time, it's the character list. You see, Warriors games are sort of like All Star games. You're supposed to see characters from all over these franchises fighting together in some weird, Avengers-style team up. Fire Emblem is a MASSIVE franchise with sixteen core entries. Three of those admittedly are remakes*, and the latest game hadn't released yet, so we'll say twelve original games for the sake of accuracy. Warriors had a roster of 32 characters and 19 distinct play styles...and with twelve original games to choose from, Warriors choose five. FIVE GAMES OUT OF TWELVE, and the worst part? MOST OF THE CHARACTERS WERE SWORD CHARACTERS. If you think Smash Bros had a problem with Fire Emblem sword characters, you're sorely mistaken. And let's not get it twisted, two of these five games received a single character as representation, so even stating that five games were represented is a technicality at best.
    Of the thirty-two characters:
    Two were original,
six were from the first game (FE 1/11),
one was from the first game released in the west (FE 7),
nine were from the first 3DS game (FE13),
twelve were from the latest original game (FE 14),
and one was from the latest remake (FE 2/15).
Anna is an oddball since she's technically present in every game (but only playable starting in FE13), and I can't remember which version of her appeared.

Yeah, the character listing was a big critique of the game when it first game out, and even as a fan of all of the games represented, I do believe it deserved that critique.
HOWEVER, while Warriors' supports are a saving grace (and very fun if you know the characters), they don't fix the problem inherit with the game because they rely on the audience to already know these characters. A support between Hinoka and Elise doesn't mean anything until you realize that they can't support in Fates (which feels like an oversight that Warriors then corrected). Chrom and Ryoma sparring doesn't mean anything until you realize they have the same voice actor.

And lastly, if you have a system to play Warriors on, you can start your first Fire Emblem game instead. The 3DS is home to three Fire Emblem games (Awakening, Fates, Echoes: Shadows of Valentia), and the Switch holds the latest game and will hopefully gain a new one next year (Three Houses and hopefully either an FE 4 remake or an FE 6/7 combination remake).

Super Smash Bros (GameCube, Wii, WiiU, 3DS, Switch). I have to put this in here, since it's a genuine way to learn about Fire Emblem.

Fire Emblem Heroes (Mobile Game). This game has a surprising amount of depth in the gameplay and multiple battle modes. It's free-to-play, meaning that it's a cost-effective entry point.

It also does a better job of representing characters from around the franchise. Not perfect, but better than those before. The problem then becomes a question of what if the representation did too good of a job, and now you're a fan of a character from a game not released in the West, like Genealogy/FE 4? Well, on one hand, that game will probably gain a remake relatively soon, so don't worry too much. On the other hand, there are quite a few emulators and translation packs out there. So as the community and they'll point you where you need to go!

Beyond that, all there is left to do is pick up a true Fire Emblem game, and hopefully enjoy it!

Perhaps I'm just not a hardcore enough gamer, but I REALLY thought this game was unfairly maligned by the critics. As a big fan of the Max universe I found it wholly engaging and have played it through to completion twice.
