What happened to Maz ?

I'm not even sure Maz will be in the next movie. As far as we know, she remained on Takodana.

 

Well, her boyfriend is Chewbacca, and he no longer has Han Solo tying him down... Wedding bells are ringing in the Star Wars universe.

 

Main characters whose fates are uncertain, but apparently escape off-screen and survive:
Kylo
Hux
Phasma
Maz

I wish Abrams had included a brief scene of Hux and Kylo walking into a hangar, or a ship taking off. Just for clarity.

 

She served her purpose and was taken care of ambiguously ?

 

It is a bit strange how the final film was cut. The characters of Maz and Phasma only have a small amount of screen time, which leaves our emotional investment in them low. However, they had enough screen time, that it leaves you raising an eyebrow, "What?" Kind of poor storytelling on the part of J.J. Abrams.

 

Now that you mention that I have to say that there is something about Kylo/Hux that I found quite odd. Kylo left to persue Rey and Finn without anyone knowing where he was. Starkiller began to blow up and it's understandable that Chewie could rescue the heros because he knew where they were and the Falcon was close by yet how could Hux grab a ship and search for Kylo and get him on the ship in time to escape the explosion? Kylo was beaten pretty baddly so Hux would obviously have to land and pick him up or at least send some troopers to get him wich would be time consuming as we just saw the Falcon barley escaping when the base blew up. Is this another show of JJ's poor writing?

 

I would have to agree with poor writing. A short clip could have tied up some loose ends. If you want to leave a character hanging in the balance, there are better ways to do it than just walk away.

 

That was a good idea maybe he is letting RJ use that for EpVIII.

 

I liked the character of Maz but not beyond TFA
I think she was only designed to be a character that moved the plot along hence, she owned a cantina and such.
Lupita Nyong'o describes her as a space pirate, she has since resonated with the audience but I hope they don't upgrade her part accordingly.
I think its better if she died in the attack from the first order, but I may be wrong?

 

I would like for them to make the movies longer.

 

I'm confused by the premise of this question. She was a character that appeared at a certain point and made her impact on our heroes. Should she have a presence in the rest of the film simply because we saw her in a few scenes?

I guess the answer is that she stayed on Takodana so that she could rebuild. It's certainly not a problem with the plot of the movie.

 

Over 2 hrs is enough IMO

 

Well since she is definitely in VIII thn she would need to find a way to grow as a character so because of that I don't think she will necessarily stay on Tacodana .

 

She got away for sure, maybe to another planet since her current home was flattened by the FO, but she'll back to get it build up once more, she lived over 1000 yrs, she's got time & more memorable scenes to make.

old enough to have seen the damage caused by the waring Jedi and Sith.

 

Yep I'm glad she picked a side or did she moves the pieces in place of one's destiny.

 

It's said in the Visual Dictionary that the FO has a tracking device in Kylo's belt buckle. Seriously.

 

But wait... Without Maz in ep 8, how do we learn about Anakin's saber? We all saw the Castle, no way that is going to be rebuilt. So it makes no sense for her to stay in terms of story. It may be a few scenes, Palpatine was only in a few scenes...

 

Well I hope she does, Rey needs a few more scenes with her, they are special.
