Finally watched Stranger Things 4 and all up to date.

It was decent enough, but I still think the more concise s1 and 3 were stronger. It felt like Mike and Will have gone from frontline to backseat characters this time out, the core we’re those left in Hawkins. …and the less said about the Kamkatcha storyline the better, every time it cut back to that it felt like the show went from 78 to 33rpm.

    Columbo.
Started in the late 60's (one off pilot before the series, Prescription: Murder), we're up to the 1990's.
Almost done, one hell of a ride.

    Oh, just one more thing...

Spielberg directed the first episode of the first series (or second episode, depending where you are - regional release schedule differed).
It's the episode above in the poster.

    Cheers,

    She-Hulk.jpg

Just finished She-Hulk, a pretty interesting and quite unique show, I thought. :) It was refreshingly low-key and quite funny.

I also found it a strange show, (hence “unique”), and a lot of the decisions that went into making She-Hulk appear very esoteric to me. For instance, I’m not entirely sure what they wanted to achieve with the breaking-the-4th-wall meta commentary thing, but perhaps that is a thing in the comics? (Like with Deadpool?) And, seeing as I don’t really get it, I’m not sure whether that particular storytelling tool did the show any favors – it was fine, but also a bit distracting at times.

That said, I liked She-Hulk. It’s a show with something to say, which is very much appreciated in the MSU-verse, I feel. Also, I understand now why the insecure incel poop-brain crowd blew up the internet over this show, seeing as they are the literal, actual bad-guys in She-Hulk – like, in the actual text of the show! That’s funny.

Also, as a kid I wasn't really into superheroes, but I always loved me some Daredevil ('cause of the ninjas, basically), so I loved seeing that ol' devil again :D

This show was fantastic to me. Funny, dark, gory and an who-dun-it. Very fun. Family loved it too. We binged it 2 days which with our schedule means we really liked it.

I grew up watching the Addams Family and the Munsters. I gotta give this show a chance.

Yes before Deadpool, She-Hulk was famous for the 4th wall breaks.... As a comic book fan, or connoisseur, I'm still a fan of Deadpool in the comic books, but Deadpool 2 the film, really upset me, I will not watch any of the actor's films, I'm so upset of what he did in Deadpool 2. I will not pay to watch Deadpool 3. That actor thinks he is funny... I will not say his name...:eek::eek:

I now fully understand, how fans feel when you trivialize something so dear to them...

END OF CRAZY OLD WIZARD RANT... I APOLOGIZE DEARLY to you sir... sorry for putting you through that...

I recently broke up with cable, and got Hulu. Being a pastafarian and pirate aficionado, I watched Black Sails from STARZ. It's an older show, but it checks out.
It's basically a Treasure Island prequel. Giving the backstories of the characters like, Long John Silver, Billy Bones, Ben Gunn, Isreal Hand, captain Flint etc. It also has some real life pirates like Calico Jack Rackham, Blackbeard, Charles Vane, Anne Bonny, and at the very end Mary "Mark" Read (she often disguised herself as a man).
It's basically how Captain Flint got his treasure, and how he wanted to make Nassau (New Providence, Bahamas) a Pirate Republic.
It's what my mom would call raunchy, a lot of sex, nudity, strong language, violence, so it's not for everyone but it's pretty cool. For what it is, it has some historical accuracy in some ways, but overall its complete fiction. en-US.jpeg

So currently watching 11.26.63 as somehow I never got around to watching it before.
Then there is Tokyo Vice on the BBC. Now this I’m really enjoying.
Then there is Willow which so far so good & oh I’m about to start Troll on Netflix which considering how much I enjoyed Troll Hunter should be something I’ll enjoy.

I read Michael Crichton’s (RIP) book Pirate Latitudes and later discovered that Steven Spielberg was going to adapt the book to film which never came to fruition.

I wonder why it wasn’t adapted into a film? Was it because it wasn’t that good of a tale, or as prolific as Spielberg is did he have a better film to direct or produce?

Still… looking forward to a good pirate film that doesn’t have all the VFX that is needed in the Disney pirate films, it’s overkill. Maybe some mermaids, but too much of fantasy stuff gets tiring after awhile, don’t get me wrong I love fantasy and sci-if and I was looking forward to the last pirate film which Disney recently cancelled.

Netflix has a pirate series: the Lost Pirate Kingdom that I have to finish up. I wonder if you thought that was any good?

As a comic book self-publisher my character was a pirate at one time and now is a modern day philanthropist so that’s one of the reason I’ve done so much research on Pirates and the lore. As an artist I also love the best of the early 19 century painters that depicted Pirates in their works.

Black Sails was pretty good. I wish someone would produce and direct a film similar to the tone of the Black Sails series or straight to streaming. Really thirsty for a good Pirate film. Uncharted film did not fulfill that need… one of my favorite video games though.
Maybe I was a pirate in my past life… I love Filipino Martial arts, I’m Haitian-American from the Caribbean… Pirates are interesting… a shame I didn’t know Flying Spaghetti Monster was a thing… you learn something everyday… haha

Pastafarians belive pirates prevent Global warming, because it's a proven scientific fact global warming didn't start until all the pirates were gone. So in order to fight global warming we must all be more like pirates. So I'm decorating my new apartment in pirate theme. 20221128_193104.jpg 20221126_212803.jpg

Yeah in the 50s pirate movies were huge. Captain Blood, the black pirate, there was even a tv show called Buccaneers. I don't know why it fell out of favor. I really don't like the POTC movies, it's just too silly. You really don't need to make up stories about pirates, their real stories are much better than fiction. Black Sails was good though, especially the first 2 seasons, then it strayed further from the truth, and season 4 was pretty slow for me. I just wanted someone to kill Max, I hated her for some reason.
A Spielberg pirate movie would have been great. I guess Hook was the closest thing we'll get.

Indeed, the first film in the bunch was good, but the proceeding films fell into campy goofiness. That's why I crave a good pirate film with the same tone of Russell Crowes' 2003 Master and Commander: The Far side of the World. Pirate ship battles on the far side of the world would be a wonderful feast for the eyes, but I also would love to see their lives on shore.

Black Sails did eventually falter as the season's went on, but thats the case with allot of series these days. GoT season 8 is a great example of this.

Yes, I bought the book on release day, and I was so excited that the goat of filmmaking was actually working on a Pirate film! For some odd reason, I think he wanted to do it because Crichton wrote it... and could have been another success like Jurassic Park, but who knows why he shelved it (maybe due to the success of POTC films?).

I've been wondering that myself for years... I think they went the way of the Westerns, but Westerns are still being made, so hopefully someone out there will have a good story to tell eventually... Before the fall of Port Royal would be an interesting tale to tell.

I've watched almost all of those 50s pirate films, I have a DVD of Treasure Island with Charlton Heston and Christian Bale which was a great find, Blackbeard with Jessica Chastain and Richard Chamberlain. I'm trying to find and watch all the Pirate film featuring Christopher Lee.

Stunning abode to say the least, I have a map of the Caribbean Islands 1715 hung up in my living room from the Assassins Creed 4 video game Black Flagg, LOL and a well made Pirate's Hook on my flatscreen stand but that about it... haha.

Id love to have a replica captain Hook hook from Hook.
A story taking place in Port Royal would be cool. It literally fell because they built half of it on a sand bar.
I think Sam Bellamy would make a good tragic love story. He becomes a sailor, meets a girl, her family hates him because he's a poor sailor, so he becomes a pirate to make money and to be accepted. Then when he finally accumulated enough wealth, he sails to Massachusetts to see his girlfriend and gets caught in a storm and dies. But as it turned out while he was pirating his girlfriend met a pirate, got pregnant, went crazy, killed the baby and was thrown in jail and tortured because she was thought to be a Witch. True story.

Before starting the second season of The Bad Batch, I am watching two Chinese dramas:

    1. Wuxia drama The Blood of Youth

    qBl40_4f.jpg

    2. A sort of detective, investigation oriented drama with a dash of political, court intrigue The Imperial Coroner

    R530z_4f.jpg

So far, they are both excellent, entertaining and easy to watch. I needed something fun to start the new year and I chose well. If interested, you can watch both here, The Blood of Youth is ongoing.

As a long time Call of Duty gamer, I really enjoyed Jack Ryan Season 3. The espionage story lines are similar, and it was great playing after watching each episode.

This was maybe a little fast/condensed with only 4 episodes to tell a story but still a good 4 hours for me. Not the same "magic" as the Witcher series. Of course, Michelle Yeoh being in it makes me biased.

FINALLY watching The Expanse, and I'm enjoying it this time around! I mean, I've read 7 of the 9 books in 2018 and have bought the last two - they're on my list of books and series to finish this year - but I only checked out the show once and didn't find myself engaged at the time. Chrisjen's actress's voice doesn't grate on my nerves like before, probably due to her small cameo in Elementary last year, so I'm a fan of her character now. Also, Chrisjen looks like she's wearing something General Leia or Padme would wear in Season 2 Episode 1, so now I'm just picturing her as either a grown-up daughter of Leia, or more likely, Padme's grandmother and "Earth" in this case really means Naboo. I'm sure I'll decide eventually.

Still watching The Blood of Youth. Started with The Last of Us. I have not played the game but I know parts of the story through osmosis. It looks good. Pedro Pascal once again demonstrates that he is an exceptional actor. I started tearing up when he
    lost his daughter
    .

    I also started Three Body.

    Three Body.jpg

It's an adaptation of the novel Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin. I have not read the novel, but the first episode is very promising. I bet Chinese wanted to release this before Netflix releases their Americanized version. You can find the episodes (so far the first two) on YouTube with English subs.
