I picked up the comic about ten days ago and read it last week. It's easily one of my top comic reads of the year.* Not sure it overtakes Tom Taylor's Nightwing, but it was a phenomenal read.

Have you watched My Adventures With Superman yet? I'm curious about your thoughts on it. (I personally really like it, but I like most Superman adaptations to one degree or another.**)

*Top three are currently: Nightwing, Superman: Girl of Tomorrow, and the DC webcomic Vixen: NYC.
**I grew up with Smallville and DCAU Superman, think Man of Steel is an underrated masterpiece, and have really come to enjoy Superman & Lois. (Also, if they ever decide to de-age Jon Kent, they could split up Old Jon and make him "Jordan" and then have young John be John again. Sort of like a Ben Reilly thing, but with fewer clones.)

WHEEL OF TIME IS FINALLY BACK! I've just seen the first episode (out of three they released) and it's already a significant improvement. The world seems bigger, the sets are perfect and so is the acting. Perfect balance between small character moments, character development and action. Cinematography gets 10/10. Lan is still a whole meal. ;)

Moving on to the second episode...

Continuing Ahsoka and The Wheel of Time, but I also started One Piece and for someone who never read the manga or watched the anime (1000+ episodes, yikes!), it's great so far. Everyone is on the same, wacky page and I love it.

I just finished it and I am so sad it ended, I could have watched (in the best OP tradition) another 50 episodes. I can't remember when a show gave me so much joy and I am saying that as someone who has never seen a single anime episode or read an issue of manga. The OP fans must be in paradise.

    The soundtrack is EPIC:

Like it's predecessor, Castlevania Nocturne is excellent - great animation, interesting, complex characters (Olrox might be my favorite), despicable villains. Richter might not be Trevor, but he is growing on me. Fan favorite is back at the last second to save the day and grace us with his dry delivery - there better be a season 2, is all I am saying. A season perfect for binging, I stayed until 3 am to finish it.

    One of my favorite moments:

GEN V, first 3 episodes went sweeping by, can't wait till Friday for episode four since Ahsoka will be done on Tuesday night. Looking forward to Loki on Thursday as well, or is it Wednesday?

Finished The Wheel of Time Season 2 and I am happy with it, the wait for season 3 will be hell. Started Loki Season 2, the first episode was appropriately freaky, I am loving the chemistry between the actors, let's see where it goes from here.

THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER

The Fall of the House of Usher.jpg

Granted, I am pretty much a Mike Flanagan super-fan at this point, but I give it a solid 9 or 10 /10. Like all of his shows, TFotHoU is a longwinded, dramatic, slow-burn, and he does get some complaints over pacing – (hint, it is not the pacing that is the problem, but rather a style issue that some find they do not have a patience for) – but I find the Flanagan output among the most intriguing stuff one can watch. And, he gets better every time, which is impressive, and this one in particular came together extremely well in the end.

The Fall of the House of Usher is:
    dark…
    beautiful… (trust me, it is)
    full of light…
ugly… (yes, that too… lots of that)

Pretty much perfect, if you ask me, and Mike Flanagan and his team are among the most interesting film & TV makers of the 21st century, thus far.

Rewatching Batman Beyond for the past month or so, and I can say, as far as kid shows go, this one STILL lives up to the hype. The theme-song did NOT need to go as hard as it did, the standalone nature makes it easy to pick up or drop of when needed, and the neo-noir/cyberpunk aesthetic means it doesn't feel as dated as other shows of the same era. (I mean, it's still incredibly dated, but the feeling is still very futuristic even nearly 25 years later.)

    upload_2023-10-23_19-38-57.jpeg

Part of me thinks I'm rewatching it because Terry is essentially the DCAU version of Spider-Man, and this year has been GOOD to the Webhead. Another part of me think I'm watching it because I'm trying to figure out who the best people to be Batman besides Bruce Wayne are.* Regardless of the reason, I'm happy I'm rewatching the show, as it's a great tale in the mythos of the Caped Crusader.

    *My current list is:
    1. Dick Grayson if he's old enough and if there's no one else available. Dick works as a Batman who can do without the angst and brooding of Bruce but keeps his family focus, leadership skills, and exceptional training. The only real problem is that Dick is so good as Nightwing that him becoming Batman really feels like a downgrade at times. There are runs where it works, but more often than not I find it only interesting for a short time. Even then, Dick is the ONLY Robin that works as Batman, either now or in the "look into the future" timelines.

    2. Terry McGinnis aka Batman Beyond, because he's the only non-immediate-Bat-Family person to actually pull it off well and he brings his own personality to the character. Again, Terry acts far more like a Peter Parker who is being mentored by Bruce Wayne than Bruce Wayne Jr., but that works. (Partially because Batman and Spider-Man share similar traumas and have similar outlooks on it. They also try out the "solo superhero" thing, but Batman honestly works better with a family or at least a few people to bounce ideas and things off of. ...although some would say the same for Peter too...)

    3. Luke Fox. Luke actually hasn't ever been Batman, but he was planned to be one as part of DC's 5G plan before it was retooled into Future State and the role of the new Batman was given to Luke's "remember the new character" older brother Jace. Luke works because he's smart and he's worked with Batman for years but never as a Robin. This lateral move gives us a new Batman that's similar enough to the old one to work while also allowing Dick to keep going as Nightwing.

I finished second season of Loki and it was great. They did Loki the character justice in the end.

    Onimusha.jpg

Finished Onimusha on Netflix, it was decent, but it could have been better. But, hello, Miyamoto Musashi, my dear, you are indeed a legend. ;)

    Blue Eye Samurai.jpg

I have two more episodes to finish Blue Eye Samurai. If you heard that it was great - believe it. Be prepared for gore (lots and lots of gore). If you are sensitive to it, be prepared for sex and nudity too (nothing too explicit IMO). The characters and fights are what shines here. I am praying for the second (and third) season at the very least. Everyone should watch this.

The show's on the second episode now (of six), and it's a big "yup" for me!
And that's all I'm gonna say about it at this time ;)

SHOGUN - fantastic writing, cast, sets, costuming, everything. I still remember 1980 mini series with Richard Chamberlain and Toshiro Mifune, but this is on another level. So far, only three episodes were released, there will be 10 in total. Enthusiastically recommended.
