Experience, memories, new awareness, fresh perceptions, self-esteem, truth, and challenged preconceived notions:

all of these are far more valuable than those books, and Rey certainly left with those non-material things, which I believe, will serve her better than any memorized Jedi code of old.

No, she left the island after kicking her master butt, she didn't leave with wisdom ...

I understand what you are saying but it is not shown in the movie. What we see is two madmen burning what they believed in, laughing ( while a tree is a living thing ... ) and failing for another time because the books weren't there anymore.

All you are saying is not in the movie.

Wisdom will not come until later. The rest is information, knowledge yet to be processed through the "refined sight" made possible through experience and contemplation.

I just watched the movie a few hours ago, so it's rather fresh in my mind what Luke said directly to Rey about the Force, Life, and the Jedi. And what Kylo said about the other things (Jedi, Sith, etc.) all being gone so they (him and Rey) could start over.

The rest of my observations in this thread are just coming from knowledge of the Force and parallel / related concepts in real life.

As usual, these films are intended to make us think and come up with our own interpretations and understandings.

Glad you posted this thread, so at least we can do that =)

I still have so much to contemplate about this movie.

What is the difference in what Luke says and surrounding and binding all living things ?

There's nothing new except they burned everything while Rey wasn't there.

The Force. It was bigger than the Jedi’s grasp of it.

The burning of the tree and the books was Luke's catharsis, it validated what he had come to learn but it also reinstated his faith. This was for his benefit, not Rey's. The fact Rey doesn't know this is irrelevant, she doesn't need to know.

The new Jedi order (if there is to be one) will be built upon Rey's perspective of the force and what she has learned. She hasn't been indoctrinated by the Jedi teachings and will therefore exercise her own principles and values as she passes on what she has learned. So the ways of the Jedi as we know it are gone.

The jedi code might be in these books, I don't see how it changes ...

A jedi is a force user applying the jedi code. Nothing more.

I just mean Luke felt at the time that the Force was bigger than the Jedi. He was saying to Rey that the Jedi thought they owned it but that it was bigger than them - it is for everyone.

Luke was just being down on the Jedi.

Why would she use the books? They will more than likely contradict what Luke taught her.

And the Jedi code wasn't the problem, it was the execution of it. Palpatine explained in ROTS why the Jedi had failed and he was 100% right.

Luke taught her anything ? You mean the guy she's close to decapitate with a lightsaber ?

Did we see the same movie ?

Has anyone ever claimed that the jedis own the Force? This seems to be straw man for me.

"Theres nothing in those books, she doesn't already have" -Yoda
Yes this is a quite literal bit of dialogue acknowledging that Yoda knows she stole the books, but beyond that i believe it has some truth to it.
Yes they are Jedi texts, but i believe she will take the necessary knowledge and training out of them to find her own way. This is where i think Luke will come in. A voice or a literal ghost that will guide her.
This is what i think will probably happen in the inevitable time jump.

Luke said this in the film. He meant that they monopolised it and have the impression that without them there would be no light. That was his point of view at this time.

Turns out he was misguided. Yes, the Force belongs to everyone BUT the Jedi do bring light and hope and they are needed.
