SPECULATION What will be the main discussion focus after TLJ ?

SPECULATION: "Will Kylo and Rey have a kid in Episode 9?"

I also expect the return of a lot of Snoke speculation.

 

Okay, what about Snoke? Who is he? What does Ben’s future hold, now that _______ happened? Will IX be the end of the Skywalker Saga? Will Luke survive IX? Etc.

I think we’ll come out of this film, as we did with TFA, with plenty more questions than we have answers. And I cannot wait.

Yeah, I’ve actually been holding a lot of theories back regarding Snoke myself, simply because I think it will be a more fruitful discussion to have after TLJ, once we think we know a little more about the character and his motivations.

Unless VIII ends on some drastically unexpected twist or cliffhanger, I’m having a hard time seeing anything else as the main topic of conversation.

 

I think there's a chance TLJ will leave us with the question of whether or not Rey goes dark. If that is indeed part of the story, I wish it wasn't the biggest thing, because it's kind of predictable and I won't believe for a second that she won't be fully on the light side by the end of IX. It's like a pointless tease. Besides, trailers already make us think about it, so if Rey's arc in TLJ ends on the same note, it could feel underwhelming.

I'd love it if they teased Rey going dark in the trailers but in fact the big deal in the film is Kylo turning to the light side. That would be neat. Then the question would be: how the hell is he going to find his place after all that?

 

Something we won't know about until we see the film.

 

If they do it right, TLJ will answer a handful of our questions but leave us with NEW questions that we probably have not even considered and won't consider until we see it.

 

can/will the galaxy forgive/accept Ben Solo?

 

I think it would be an interesting route to go, but to do it, they’d obviously have to set it up so that Ben is something of a hero (for the “good” guys) during the Battle of Crait, in my opinion. Otherwise it will just feel like it takes place within its own little bubble, and we won’t be in a position to have such discussions.

I think it would be very interesting if Ben being Kylo Ren and all he has done under that persona became common knowledge, as well as any heroic feats he pulls off at the Battle of Crait. It’s something we never really got to explore with Anakin and Vader, so I’d love for that to be a conversation going on inside the universe with regards to Ben after the end of TLJ.

 

Didn't RJ say that TLJ will have a definitive ending?
If so, there could be a nice long gap between TLJ and IX, where Rey and Ren go off together and do...whatever.
A bit of a cooling off period after Ben, with Rey and Finn, have saved the Resistance and turned on Snoke could provide the characters (and audience) a chance to re-evaluate RenBen...

 

The ending.

Before TFA premiered, we had the ending from the MSW leaks.

For TLJ, we have no idea how this movie ends or how it sets up Episode IX


Other than that, the talk will be about all the answers revealed, for the questions we've had since TFA.

 

He did, but a definitive ending doesn’t have to be as literal as TFA’s cliffhanger, which we learned would go on to directly feed into the next film.

It could still be a definitive ending and leave plenty of questions. By all means, every Star Wars film has something to consider a definitive ending, despite leaving us with plenty to think about: TPM leaves us “wondering” about whether Maul was a master or an apprentice; AOTC leaves us wondering about whether Anakin and Padmé will be found out; ROTS leaves us “wondering” about what will happen with baby Luke and baby Leia; ANH leaves us wondering about what’s next for Luke, Leia and Han, and what happened to Vader; TESB leaves us wondering about how Han will be saved; ROTJ leaves us wondering if peace has ultimately been brought to the galaxy; TFA leaves us wondering about what Luke’s been doing, and what he and Rey will do moving forwards, as well as about what Luke’s first words will be; RO leaves us “wondering” what will happen to Leia and the stolen data tapes.

No comment on your later opinion, because I’ve said my piece on that let’s see again after the film’s been released.

 

I just hope issue will not be Rey and Kylo relationship anymore, and that this issue will be solved, it was enough of this tormenting about their relationship..I cant properly function anymore.

I hope real issue will be Pablo Hidalgo defending himself how could have he said Snoke is not Darth Plagueis the Wise when its obvious he is...

 

I have not read any spoilers, so all my answers are just gut feeling:

1. Luke's arc: No matter how this movie turns out, some people are going to love what RJ did with Luke, some will be OK with it, and some will hate it. This will fuel the debate even past Episode 9.

2. Rey's Parentage: Unless RJ doesn't give us a clear answer, this will be very much debated because EVERYONE has formed their theory as to who she is, so some will be let down. If we still don't have an answer after TLJ then I think most fans won't care at that point, as I can see this debate has sort of fallen off since TFA.

3. Kylo Ren's arc: Who knows how he will end up in TLJ, but the debates will be there: Will he turn good? Is he related to Rey? Rey/Lo? God I hope Rey/Lo does NOT happen!

4. Snoke: I'm sure RJ won't give us everything about Snoke, but just enough that we can debate and theorize who he is? Where he came from? This won't be as debated as Rey/Luke, but the curiosity will be there.

5. Leia's Death: Maybe Leia dies in TLJ and then there is closure. But if she survives TLJ, then THIS maybe the #1 debate until 2019 because some fans say to recast her, some want a CGI Leia, and some like me just want a death offscreen out of respect for Carrie.

 

Yes, I thought about that one too. If Leias fate is unknown after VIII, there will be a lot of speculation what will have happened to her before IX.
Also, there will be the question how big the gap between VIII and IX will be – maybe it's a really big gap of 20 years? That could also solve the "Leia-Problem" ...

 

How Snoke will be stopped once he is unleashed.

 

That's a good point. I think it depends on if Luke survives TLJ too, as if he dies then they can definitely move forward the timeline for Episode 9 to whatever they want. But the problem with that is if they end on some cliffhanger in TLJ, then they are sort of locked into essentially starting Episode 9 right around that timeframe.

call me an evil pessimist... but i reckon the talk for the next 2 yrs will be about Rey's parents, ReyLo, Finn's force sensitivity, and whether or not Snoke is DP

i think we'll be lucky if TLJ puts a '.' after just one of these topics
