If I had my way, IX would end with Kylo killing Rey and not being redeemed. But in such a scenario I'd not have brought Palpatine back either. I'd have instead brought Darth Plageius out as the real bad guy. The only positive is I'd have a new Jedi order rise up similar to the Sith, having a rule of two in order to secretly work against the Sith.

But I'm just a dark bastard. LMAO I know that isn't going to happen.

    Not redeemed and dies.

    The guy is just evil.

Anakin at least was a hero who saved lives and worlds and served the Republic in his life. So it makes some sense he could be redeemed even after the tyranny and destruction he did to the galaxy.

Kylo has no redeeming qualities.... he has Never been a hero. He has Never brought good to the galaxy. He needs to be taken out.

You bring up an interesring point raised in Windham’s Book, “Fourth stage: atonement or redemption. Through a period of meditation, reflection, and absolution, a Jedi who is tainted by the dark side can atone for her actions. A Dark Jedi cannot atone, but may find redemption by turning away from the dark side and performing a selfless act of heroism without calling upon the dark side of the Force. A Dark Jedi who has no desire to relinquish the power of the dark side and return to the light cannot be redeemed.” (Stages of the Dark Side, SW: Jedi vs Sith, Windham).

So you see Kylo only atoning for his evil if he dies? Is that correct?

One half of my answer is . . . yes. He deserves death, even if he finds redemption. The other half of my answer is . . . I don't care. I don't care about him. I get sick and tired of people acting as if he is the best character in the saga. I think he is a terrible character marred by inconsistent writing. I realize that Disney is trying to push him as the next Anakin Skywalker or someone even more interesting. I find that laughable. Kylo Ren is more suited for a comedy or a parody. But as a serious character? God no!

Well, because he is : P Or at least one of them. IMO he is one of the few things which makes the ST special. I was absolutely intrigued by his character arc in TFA. We have never seen something like this before in Star Wars. => Someone who is scared by the pull of the light. Just awesome. Then his look... just perfect. And of course don't forget Adam Driver's acting.

In TLJ he wasn't that fantastic anymore (still good though), mainly because Kylo had nothing to do in this movie.

Killing off this character would be a waste of screen time IMO.

See I respectfuly beg to differ. Kylo is very different than Vader. He is insecure were Vader was secure, he is post modern (“Let it all die, the Sith, the Jedi..” TLJ) while Vader was a dogmatic traditonal Sith (“You don’t know the power of the Dark Side, I must obey my Master.”). Kylo is dangerious because His vision is choas and anarchy; he has a touch of the Joker’s “I want fo see the worlds burn.” Vader by contrast was fiercely about bringing order and peace (his point of view) to the galaxy.

Kylo keeps trying to reassure himself, and is unstable (like his lightsaber), while Vader was stalwart and dependable; he only was rattled at the revelation of his children being alive; Kylo is rattled much of the time. Vader was resigned to his dark ans twisted fate, Kylo wrestles with it and reminds me of someone trying to constantly convince themselves.

This to me makes Ben interesting as a character, he is the heir apparent to Vader but he does not possess the Chosen One’s dogmaticism; he is as Snoke said “soft,” like his father Han.

I think he should be redeemed as Ben Solo and take up moisture farming with Rey on the old Skywalker land. Both of them walking away from everything and living a simple life :)

Farming has been dangerious. It killed Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen. Killed Shimi Skywalker. Dismembered Cligger Lars. Killed Lyra Erso (Rogue One) and led fo Galen Erso’s death.

    “A dangerious business is farming.”

Kylo should be redeemed and live, based on his parentage, entirely, purely for a happy ending.

Kylo should not be redeemed. He should be captured and hold in a prison to atone for his sins. It will drive him mad, untill he escapes and kills Rey in a new trilogy.

Redeemed Ben Solo would be ideal. He would be following in the footsteps of hus grandfather and Revan, and fufill the fourth stage of the Dark Side:

“Fourth stage: atonement or redemption. Through a period of meditation, reflection, and absolution, a Jedi who is tainted by the dark side can atone for her actions. A Dark Jedi cannot atone, but may find redemption by turning away from the dark side and performing a selfless act of heroism without calling upon the dark side of the Force. A Dark Jedi who has no desire to relinquish the power of the dark side and return to the light cannot be redeemed.” (Jedi vs Sith, Windham).

I fear however, that Kylo may fall into this chasm: “A Dark Jedi who has no desire to relinquish the power of the dark side and return to the light cannot be redeemed.” The reasoning is he refused Rey’s offer of turning to the Light in TLJ and mocked Luke, “Have you come to save my soul?!”

Yeah ... Things are not looking good for Kylo Ren, in that regard -- you might be right.

Being EUian I kinda hope Rey slays Kylo in the same way Jaina Solo slays Darth Cadehs/Jason Solo.

This is interesting because it's Vader all over again. Even if he turns back to the light, he's killed a bunch of people and stood by why his master's superweapon killed millions/billions. What do you do with someone like that? I don't think that death is an unfair ending for him.

I personally buy into the theory that "Skywalker" becomes a title for a new generation of Force users. I feel like for that to be the case, someone has to carry on the legacy of the Force beyond the Jedi and the Sith, but the living Skywalkers (Leia and Kylo) would have to die.

I also think Kylo has done far too much evil to be forgiven, although he could redeem himself through martyrdom IMO.
