You should've been there...it was a different time. Remember that the best things that we had at that time was Flash Gordon...have you ever seen it?? Oh man...cheesy 1970's sci-fi....then came SW, which changed the face of movies on so many levels. We'd never seen anything like it...EVER!!

Flash Gordon was 1980. Logan's Run though...

If you go to an opening night the odds of cheering go up. The more wiling to brave crowds the more willing to cheer.

The first movie I ever heard cheering at was ROTJ. I saw it opening weekend. My mom was so annoyed. We went to the theatre and found the showing we planned sold out. There was a line to wait in so we walked for awhile and joined the line for the next showing. The theater was packed and people were ready to cheer Jaba's Barge yeah, exploding scout troopers hitting trees woo hoo. It was crazy during the Ewok rally in the end ground fight.

    I love this thread!

I will be really nervous. Stomach in knots. It will be obviously very surreal, and every second that passes will feel like one long incredible reveal, because every single thing that I see, will be some sort of revelation about things I have obsessed like a nutjob over for 2-3 years. It's going to be incredible to put it mildly, and quite a lot to take in.

I just can't wait to get answers! Who is Snoke? What does he LOOK like? Is Luke in it a great deal, or at the end? Etc etc.

I'm planning on vlogging premiere night so I can share my experience with you guys!! But honestly I feel like I can finally exhale once that theme song blow my ear drums out and the crawl starts. I've been waiting for this since they announced it back in 2012.

Well I'm going to be on the edge of my seat, my eyes glued to everything, reading the crawl, waiting for that first scene of action to take me far,far away.

While drinking a big glass of Bluemilk of course and have my mind blown.

ROTJ was my first one in the theater, and I remember the cheers when Lando flew out of the fireball, and the only other time I've heard cheering in a movie theater was when Episode I's opening started up. Funny, there weren't many cheers after that, if at all...

I remember seeing Episode II in a theater when I was a little kid and one of my favorite memories from the movies is the whole theater getting quite when Dooku says the line about skills with a lightsaber. Then the place went nuts when yoda pulled out his lightsaber.

I saw midnight screenings of II and III. Plenty of cheering there.

I hope they have something better than that...

You'll just have to go back and watch the movie a few more times...

I think for me, when the lights go dim, I'll be praying that the film doesn't open with a lightsaber in space. I swear, if I see that lightsaber in space, I may just die a little.

Only time I've seen this happen was for Lord of the Rings - Return of the King. Not so much during the movie, but once it ended everyone applauded for a good few minutes, even though it was just a regular screening.

Back on topic, I will get major goosebumps (as will everyone else, I'm sure) when the opening crawl starts. Cannot wait!

I was working at the time at a place that made licensed SW products and we scored tickets two weeks early to see it at a digital theater. It was packed, and when that scene happened with Yoda people did go crazy...

...with laughter. I remember sinking in my seat a bit and realizing that was NOT the intended reaction.

I'll be elated with TFA though. Nieces and nephew are coming and they're all around the perfect age, they have no idea what it's going to do to their brains.

Yea I'm not feeling the saber twirling through space thing either. Sounds a little far fetched given the outcome of the bespin Luke/Vader fight.

Man I love that movie. I can't remember when I first saw it but I don't think it was until a little later. I have the space capsule theme music on an mp3. I have some of the blade runner sound track as well. Both films had beautiful soundtracks. It was indeed a different time.

    Damm that took me there.
    --- Double Post Merged, Oct 7, 2015 ---
That is a damm good question. Maybe the star destroyer dispatching Ren and the troops (enter Finn)? Then we have the rumors of the storm trooper training but where? Could the opening of the film pan to where it takes place? Lord knows. :)(star destroyer)

Me, I am going to be sitting next to the most important person in my life, my daughter \m/
She was just over a year old when I took her to see The Clone Wars in the theater. I took her just so I could say I took her to see a SW movie in the theater. At that time I didn't think we would get any more movies. And now, she is old enough to want to go see TFA and eat popcorn lol.
So I will be thinking: This is AWESOME \m/ \m/

38 years. Damm it has been a loooong time. I remember seeing the ROTJ preview in theaters. I was tripping out when they showed the new forest scenes. We hadn't seen a star wars movie with any (earthly type) forests in it at that time. Then I see a quick shot of Chewie kicking storm trooper butt amidst the trees and I lost it.
