Very true my friend. I'm totally in for new aliens but I just hope that we get to see beter looking ones than the ones we've seen so far cause at least for me, they really don't do it for me. It's hard for me to accept that after this:

all we might end up getting is this:

We know there will be at least one Wookiee, one Sullustan, and one Mon Calamari in TFA. I would like to see more, but won't be too disapointed if it doesn't happen. I have the feeling that TFA takes place mostly in parts othe Outer Rim Territories (or beyond!) that we haven't seen before, so it makes sense for there to be mostly new aliens. That said, it begs the question why Humans are so prevalent in the Galaxy? We will probably see more familiar aliens in scenes closer to the Galaxtic Core Worlds, possibly as CGI created background figures in a senate like scene or whatever. And there might be the odd familiar alien among the Resistance fighters.

Personally, I would like to see more Hutts, possibly with a wider range of roles and character types, because they are perfect bad guys and anti-heroes. Also, a Weeqway (?) or two would be cool, and possibly a Gan (because they look SO weird). Still, I won't be disappointed if those types of aliens do not show up as they are likely to appear in Rogue One instead.

I like your point about the humans because it makes no sence not to have familiar aliens around but humans are everywhere spread out like a virus. Tons of the familiar alien races have hyperdrive technology and while I know that it may be hard to see a Ewok or an Amanin on Jakku, other species like the Duros, Gands, Morseerians and Gran would surly be around just like the humans.

Took me some searching to find this particular thread. Frankly, when I saw the Vanity Fair image a couple of days ago for the first time (the female 3PO aint related to Dot Matrix from Spaceballs, right?) the first thought that came to my mind was "Do we really need another grotesque Muppets Show?"

I love the original Mos Eisley Cantina. Despite the budget limitations the aliens seemed real, they drank, they chatted, they joked, they bartered, they played music. I didn't get that vibe in Jabba's palace because it rather seemed to me most were there just to be put on display and I'm afraid it's not going to be that much different in TFA, unless considerable screentime is allocated to all these individual new alien characters in TFA.

The other thing is continuity. Although I would have had no problem whatsoever seeing different fighter designs in the future ahead of the OT, it is obvious that the TFA makers decided to stay as close as possible to the OT designs to make fans "feel at home".
But while technical designs usually evolve and its biological users don't change that much within a few decades, I can't help but wonder why they apparently felt the need to create new ones, while they had already plenty of familiar aliens to choose from to make fans "feel at home".

Two role model example that accomplish that wonderfully are Clone Wars and Rebels. Theoretically all the spaceships could look totally different, but the presence of familiar alien protagonists instantly tells me I'm in that galaxy far, far away. It creates a sense of realism and familiarity with the environment. Instead of feeling like tourist, the encounter with the (familiar) Ugnaught on Lothal who tried to bribe the stormtroopers made me feel like a local witness, it's a nice "immersion effect" that greatly adds to the experience, IMHO.

Simply put: Rather than being shown 600,000 different alien species, I would rather prefer to learn more about a handful of species we already encountered in the past.

I have to agree with you on some of your points my friend. There are so many alien species that we hardly know anything about since they were hardly seen in both the OT and the PT that it doesn't make sense to have about 98% of the aliens in TFA be new ones. Lamproids, Amanin, Anx, Elom, Arcona, Yuvernian, Kaleesh and Huk are just a few of the aliens that we have hardly seen. Many of these characters didn't even have bodies made for them in the movies as they were just props and it would be so cool to see full bodied versions of them in the movies. I know many disagree with me but I still feel that aside from Sarco Plank, none of these new aliens I have seen so far have cought my interest like most of the OT and PT ones did and I would gladly have loved to see guys like Cane Adiss, Dice Ibegon or Hem Dazon apear in full bodied form than many of these ugly looking new guys cause that would have really blown my mind away.

Twi'leks get a big round of applause in Rebels, I really like that, they are a cool race in the old EU one riddled with tragic slavery and mental terrorism. I think we can all live if we don't get to see one in this new film.

Also we get Ackbar and Nien Nunb for sure and best of all, many of the new creatures (like Bobbajo who I am very partial to) are hand crafted, which provides a certain magical quality, a nostalgic, but well crafted homage to the films we all love.

Look the film won't be perfect and there are those who won't accept anything less than perfection. The film is going to be very emotive I think, there will be actual tears this time, that's something not every Star Wars fan loves.

If I had to guess, you're going to see a Talz or a Zabrak somewhere and we already know Gonk droids and mouse droids are in.

I'll tell you seeing my favorite Sullustan with a helmet, flying an X-Wing, well my heart soared, so they've already made me pretty happy. :)

Hmm. I've looked at this a couple times before but never really looked at it. But I am digging that red dude on the right, the yellow skull looking thing on the left and the big guy front and centre.
But man that dude with the eyepatch right beside Chick-3PO is the most generic looking guy I have EVER seen..

Come to think about it - Eyepatches? In the Star Wars Universe?

Wouldn't they rather have bionic implants of some kind or are they just dirt poor so they can't afford these?

    Cantina-scene-Star-Wars.jpg

Heck, the criminal Roofus ("""Dr. Evazan""") must have been that dirt poor he couldn't even afford an eyepatch, unless eyepatches aren't really a fashion in the Star Wars Universe.

Frankly, with so many aliens looking weirder than a guy with an empty eye socket it probably wouldn't matter at all. Just my 0.02 $.
