I've only seen the movie twice so I don't have the script handy, but they were attempting to slow down the advance so the signal would reach the Outer Rim and help would arrive.

It was want meant to achieve a lame kiss between Finn and Rose!

No, it was a desperate last stand to destroy the canon and buy them more time. I think by either firing at it, or sending a ship down it Rambo style.

They give dialogue saying that the ships will have to fall back they don't say way. Elsewhere they talk about the larger ships weapons not getting a good angle on the shields so there is a loss in firepower punch with distance. I can only assume and this is only my speculation. That the fact that the ties are support craft. They harass the ships forcing the shields to deflect a barrage from many many angles allowing the larger ships to get in closer and hit harder. With the strategy of escape they could move far enough away to make the ties irrelevant with out full power from the capital ships. That said. The ties took out the bridge of the Raddus while they were getting out of range of the support ships. So. I think this one is a hard knot to untie.

Perhaps you should look again. Nearly every counter example I gave pointed to events or dialogue from the film that explains it.

Admittedly there are some issues brought up that aren't as easy as addressed but many were pointed out. Also some of the issues raised were people not liking the plot. Or things surprising them . . ..those aren't plot holes.

Yoda telling Luke I thought I told you to pass on what you learned.

Then saying there is nothing in the books Rey needs to learn.

    She received two sarcastic lessons.

This is inconsistent and illogical to what was said in the same scene.

Any logical inconsistency can be explained away if you try hard enough. That’s not the point. What reason was given, within the story, that precluded the most obvious course of action from being taken? I don’t recall there being one. I could certainly make something up to force it to make sense, but that doesn’t remove gap in logic.

When you’re speeding away from the cops, they don’t just wait for you to run out of gas. They radio ahead and coordinate a road block or spike strips to eliminate the situation as quick as possible. Why is the Star Wars equivalent to that beyond the First Order’s ability?

That's actually the event that led me to bring this up. While fighters are support craft in these kinds of engagements, that still doesn't mean that they cannot cause immense levels of damage to key components. Ben, for example, practically destroyed the hangar bay of the Raddus using the armament of the Silencer, pretty much crippling any remaining support it could have and eliminating yet another threat to any TIE pursuers. It was definitely one of the many structural problems I had with the film because this pursuit is such a large part of it.

Also, I think those complaining about the Resistance bombing fleet are missing more dire issues with the craft like the fact that the payload can blow up prior to activation which is counterintuitive to the kind of delivery system they employ and there doesn't appear to be much in the way of ray or particle shielding protecting the bomb bay from enemy (or friendly) fire.

This was explained in the film. The smaller First Order ships were vulnerable when they too far away from the Supremacy. The Resistance cruiser was more maneuverable than the Supremacy and could stay far enough away. Are these good story choices? That's a separate debate, but this isn't plot hole.

The most obviously plot hole someone pointed out already was that Luke said he was gonna teach Rey 3 things and only taught her 2. Trying to deny that is just being ignorant

He obviously taught her #3 off screen. It isn't a plot hole.. Just like we didn't see Rey take the books.

Yeah such a plot hole. Not like she stormed off the island before she was ready and tried to go face Snoke and Ren by herself without finishing the lessons.
Oh wait. blast. That's exactly what happened isn't it?

She left before her training was over. Just like Luke left before his training was over. Its not a plot hole. Luke intended to give her 3 lessons. He almost gave up after the 1st. "I wasn't afraid enough the first time." He then goes again. But its not a plot hole. The fact that he didn't get to the 3rd lesson. Is the plot.

I mean Yoda intended to fully train Luke. Luke left. If there is a plot hole its that when he comes back to finish Yoda says there is nothing left to teach him.

If youre just gonna make up stupid reasons for how somethin is not a plot hole then nothing is a plot hole because you can make up some fairy tale story of how tinker bell came over and changed the story

oooooh can I, can I??? thank you

    1. Yoda telling Luke I thought I told you to pass on what you learned. Then saying there is nothing in the books Rey needs to learn.

Passing on what he learned is now suddenly book knowledge only?? It is quite easy to see that Yoda was talking about the totality of what Luke learned. Nice try though

    Soooo. wrong again.

Please give my brain an actual workout..

I think what makes this whole interaction that Rey and Luke have kind of well...dumb is that she doesn't really suffer any consequences for this. She survives her battle with the Praetorians fairly well with no real setbacks. It kind of makes her taking the books ridiculous as well because what did you have left to learn after taking on some of the deadliest melee combatants in the galaxy and coming out of it practically unscathed? Nowhere is it even implied that she's at a combative disadvantage to Ben either.

Disagree. And I think that is a nod to Yoda/Luke's trainning in TESB. Yoda says that Luke must stay in Dagobah to finish his trainning, but Luke refuses because he can't leave his friends in the hand of the empire, he will not let his friends to die. Rey leaves her trainning incomplete because she senses good in Kylo and want to.save him for Snoke. Thats the reason RJ set 3 things but just gave us 2 things about the lessons. To me is obvious.

aaaaannnnd it was confirmed that the third lesson is in the deleted scenes... This was confirmed by RJ himself. The movie was going to be 3 hours long... they had to make cuts... so ... BOOM!!
