Where Were You in Two-Oh-One-Two?!

I don't honestly remember what I was doing...However, I remember being completely skeptical and worried about what direction Star Wars would be taken. I am still not completely sold on it yet either...

 

I was at work. Since my job allows me to spend a lot of time on Internet without actually nothing else to do, I read some news. My first reaction was "What the...?" and the second thing I did was double-check the date to be sure it wasn't April the 1st...

 

I heard it from my father-in-law at Thanksgiving, shows you how far out of the loop I was back then

 

I liked what they did with Marvel and read they were looking at buying Star Trek to fill that space setting universe they always wanted. John Carter had not panned out. I was wishing it would be Star Wars instead of Trek so we could have more movies. Few years later I see they did buy Star Wars was making movies. First thought? Hope they get JJ, he even made Trek look like Star Wars.

 

I was sitting at home playing Assassin Creed III which I had just purchased that day. When I woke up that morning I thought this was going to be the highlight of my day. Then my dad walked in my room and said "Did you hear the news" and in my mind I was like Dad I am in the middle of assassinating people in my new game can this not wait. "Disney bought Lucasfilm they are making more Star Wars movies." I immediately stopped playing my new game(which I later found out was going to be terrible anyway) At the time I did not have internet at my house so I just sat there in my chair trying to conceive in my mind what the new films would be about. I found this site at work about a week later and have not stop checking a hundred times a day since. Two years later I am still sitting in my chair trying to figure out what the new films will be about.

 

I was at work. I checked to see if it was April 1st. Then I thought it was a terrible idea. "My heart can't take anymore Star Wars disapointment," I thought. Then I started hearing the rumors about the original cast being in. Then I heard they were talking to JJ (I originally wanted Brad Bird for the gig, but JJ is a great choice). Then I started thinking "Thrawn, Thrawn, Thrawn." Then "Legends" happened (which doesn't upset me that much...maybe a little). I've slowly come around to getting excited about it...though, with a heavy dose of skepicism. We'll see what happens. I'm hopeful and skepical all at the same time!

 

I can't even believe two years have passed already...

 

I actually didn't find out until a couple weeks after (after I crawled out from under my rock). We had some friends over some time in November, and one of our guests mentioned the sale of Disney to me. My mouth immediately dropped open, I turned to my wife, and said, "DID YOU HEAR THAT?! THEY'RE MAKING MORE STAR WARS!!!"

To this, she replied, "Oh... cool." A rather dull reaction to possibly the best news ever in the world ever.

Glad I can come here to celebrate the galaxy far, far away. Also, Happy Birthday SW7N!

 

I was over at my (then) business partner's house. I had taken my laptop over there, and was set up at the kitchen table. I yelled... they couldn't have cared less.

I was in the same place when I found out JJ was directing, btw... days after I had told her that JJ was the only one that could pull it off.

She said, "JJ who?"

 

Every now and again I'd type in new Star Wars trilogy. Usually fan made stuff, rumours that the 3D releases were to fund new films. Then at 1am I was on my old friends Husky (who may or may not have been uploading clone wars episodes) you tube channel and Bang. New trilogy. I checked the BBC and there it was. Disney buys Lucasfilm. New trilogy. Spinoffs the lot. Was so excited I texted my friends at 1am to tell them. And they have no interest in starwars what's so ever. My first thought was obviously HOLY blast!! And my 2nd was that episode 7 would be animated. And the best thing is we have no idea what it's about.

 

I'm thinking back, it seems so long ago...

I was at home, and I was in a bad place. A couple of months earlier, I witnessed the unexpected and untimely death of my best friend-My Dad.

I was just numb for the longest time, and I basically disconnected myself from others, and from the world around me. Things I used to love, activities I'd always enjoyed, held no interest. People would try to get me engaged in things, and I love them for it, but it just wasn't there for me. I even stopped answering the phone and the door.

Then one night, my Mom calls and leaves me a message. She says hey, I just heard that Disney bought Lucasfilm, and they are making three more Star Wars films. I thought nice try Mom, and I actually smiled and laughed. Then I went online and found out she wasn't kidding. I smiled, and laughed for the first time in months that night.

The next day, I went into my toy/model room for the first time since his death, I pulled a Finemolds X-wing kit down off the "to build" stack, and started working on it. Life has slowly but surely improved, and happiness has for the most part, started to return.

It all started that night.

I was playing something on the X-Box that evening, can't remember what, talking to someone when the guy suddenly mentions "Hey, did you know they're making Episode 7?"

My immediate response was that there had been rumors for an episode 7 for a long time and that nothing will come of it, but he insisted that "No, they're actually making it." So I humored him and looked it up, and what do you know... Disney buys LucasFilm and announces a new trilogy. Spent the rest of the night talking about it.

 

I've talked to my father, who took me to see it for the first time. I have already made plans to visit him for the opening...

Like Driver said... its about families...

 

One would think that the grand poobah could be forgiven if he chose to post off topic...

Of course, the opportunity to force-choke you doesn't come along every day either...

 

Help... I'm being oppressed...
