Who/What/Where/When/Why/How did Lor San Tekka obtain a piece of the map?

Church of the Force - an underground faith made up of loosely affiliated worshipers of the Jedi ideals. Members of the faith believed that the Jedi Order would not only return one day, but that its return was essential in bringing balance to the Force.

The Church of the Force existed as an underground movement during the Age of the Empire, when the Jedi Knights were hunted to near-extinction and worship in the supernatural was a violation of Imperial law. One member of the faith was Lor San Tekka, an explorer who did not believe the lies that the Empire told about the so-called Jedi betrayal of the Galactic Republic. He spent years finding history of the Jedi that the Empire had to tried to suppress, and eventually helped Luke Skywalker, the last Jedi, in his own search for Jedi lore. After Skywalker vanished following the massacre of his new generation of Jedi, San Tekka held a fragment of a map that showed where Skywalker had gone into exile. Believing that the Jedi had to return in order for there to be balance in the Force, San Tekka gave the map fragment to the Resistance before he was killed by Kylo Ren—Skywalker's nephew, and the man who killed the new Jedi. His death was not for nothing, however, as Skywalker was located by a young Force-sensitive woman named Rey.

The Church of the Force was identified in the reference book Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, which provided a backstory for San Tekka.

 

And yet, he decided to go and retire to Jakku of all places.

There's really only one reason for doing that which makes any kind of sense...

Actually, if you read something someone posted in another thread that Pablo hIDALGO had said, that the massacre happened AFTER Rey was dropped off at Jakku, so the question remains as to WHY she was dropped there...COULD LST be FS ?

 

Depends on which massacre you are referring to... I'm 99.99% certain that the rain scene in the vision is not the same event as when Kylo betrayed Luke.

Even the "massive list of star wars expression" doesn't list him.

The First order got it the same place the resistance did, as explained in the movie, from old empire records. This was explained during Ray's interrogation, that the 1st order got it from there, and just needed the last piece.
