Alright, what is the situation there?
    Inquiring minds need to know.
Because Rey's "love " theme within Kylo's is intriguing to say the least

Oh I missunderstood you the first time I think.
I don't think the sweeping portion of Rey's theme signifies anything but her character itself.

    That being said.
Kylo is *highly* interested in her.
I guess we'll have to wait to find out the exact nature of his desires. ^_^

Okay, I know the majority of you think "Rey's theme" is the best character piece of music in the Force Awakens score. I completely agree. But now let's look at those other original character music themes. Which one did you like the most? Note that themes from the original trilogy are not included only original compositions specifically written for The Force Awakens.

    a. Finn's theme (featured in I am no hero (movie version) and Finn's Confession (score retail version)
    b. Poe's theme (featured in I can fly anything and the Resistance (movie version)
    c. Kylo Ren's theme
    d. BB8's theme (featured in Attack on the Jakku Village and Farewell and the Trip)
    e. The Falcon's theme (featured in Follow Me and the Falcon (movie version and score retail version) and The Rathars)
    f. Snoke's theme ( note that there is an extended edition on the extented sore which features additional vocals and lines from one of Rudyard Kipling's poems)

Original extended movie score can be found here:

I don't know if it is a theme or not but I really like the sounds I hear when Kylo gets angry.

For instance Vaders theme is different than the sound we here when he summons the force to choke someone.

So as far as themes go.... I don't know. As far as sounds go when a certain act is committed I don't think you can beat when Kyo gets angry.

i don't know if i have a favorite character piece. when i think of the movie, i think of it in story pieces, not people themes.

oddly enough the main Kylo Ren theme is very flatulant to my ears. it's grown on me, but i don't love it.
i do like the "Torn Apart" theme, which i'm guessing belongs to him? or does it?

and i'll always love the Han & Leia theme, which is in there somewhere.

I reckon people will mostly go for Kylo's theme or Poe's theme here (I would as well), so I'll give my vote to the Falcon's theme instead (oddly enough, I've likened it to Finn's theme beforehand as it progressed into Poe's theme naturally during the end credits, right after Rey and Kylo's themes - figured it formed some sort of character suite). It's simple, yet catchy; energetic; fun - it manages to sell the space adventure tone that Star Wars usually is.

    Great poll, by the way!

I think it's mostly flatulent because it's meant to be. Kylo Ren, as a volatile, conflicted individual, has a very dissonant theme to represent his nature. One might even argue that his theme overlaps with Rey's theme in a couple of notes, yet instead of ending it abruptly, Rey's theme would naturally progress from that point.

oh totally. i get that it's deliberate. it's like a distortion of the Imperial March. just don't like the sound of it; probably for that reason.

i've seen other arguments about how it's a mirror or whatever of Rey's theme, which makes sense, tying them back to the yin yan Light / Dark center of the story.
i take everybody's word for it, since i'm tone deaf. ~ hahaha

Now that you mention it, at least when I'm running the notes inside my head, it does feel like a reflection. Gotta appreciate how methodical and immersed is John William's approach to the music here.

Yeah I would go even further than this- Rey's motif in track 2 and 6, which has a subjective sense of arrival and rest to it ( major) is just the same! as Ren's motif in track 14 and 19. Ren's motif is played in a minor key, which gives it a certain degree of tension.

I notice that I should make a youtube video in which I make explicit the various character themes. Snoke's theme is explicit, but Finn's theme can be heard only at one particular moment. I wouldn't have known it was Finn's theme if it hadn't been for Boyega and Williams reveal that it was. I can only be heard at one particular moment in the movie and is not as repetitive as the other themes. For instance, you can hear "the Falcon" twice, Rey and Kylo's themes a dozen times, Poe's theme twice and BB8's theme two or three times in the movie. But Finn only at one particular moment from 0:00 to 0:45 before it evolves into Rey's theme:

Snoke's theme is nearly a direct rip-off of "Palpantine's Teachings", but I still love it. Very ominous and intriguing.

Rey's is the only one I can remember, so that must say something for it. Only seen it twice though. Waiting for it to hit the cheaper theaters :-D

The first thing I'll be doing once I hit 30 posts is rate this a "great post". Small details like these are only making my anticipation of what John Williams will do with the ST's music all the better. Even after listening to the soundtrack for quite a couple of times, I still find myself learning new things and nuances in its "texture".

    1. Kylo Ren's Theme - A brilliant minor key declaration that receives several awesome renditions throughout the score.
    2. Poe's Theme - Seldom heard, yet impressive in all of its anthemic renditions. I hope to hear more of this in the future films/unreleased score for TFA (for which about an hour or so exists separate from the album/film)
    3. The Falcon (most likely Finn's theme as the Rebel fanfare almost becomes an honorary theme for the Falcon) - A fun and propulsive action idea, though it kind of disappears from the score after "The Rathtars". Perhaps the aforementioned unreleased music will shed some light on it.

I see the rest as more one-off moments (Finn's Confession, Snoke) and really short motifs (BB8's theme) rather than proper themes. And it's a bit too early to tell but I can see"Jedi Steps" ending up being used as Luke's "new theme".

The twin Suns theme for Luke Skywalker in ANH tied with Anakin/Padme theme from AOTC tied with Han/Leia theme in The OT...

...and the new Victory a celebration in ROTJ :D .
