    ^This

I actually used to be on forceboards but, for some reason, my internet is not allowing me on that site. So I went searching for a new Star Wars forum and found this one. I like the style of it and it's super simple to use. I'm not going to just be posting my articles on every post. Just thought I'd pass it along to anyone who might be like-minded. :)

I was getting into Star Wars before I knew much about the movie. I knew it was being made and although I was excited, it wasn't what led me to Star Wars fandom. What DID was the The Clone Wars cartoons and Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy, ever since then, I started becoming more excited for other stuff as well, especially the movies, as my knowledge (still minimal compared to most) is growing, the more I can appreciate it all more.

I think we lost some good stuff (EU) for the greater good.

I think Pixar has had some rough films, but that's alright.

I think that the Marvel Universe is doing great, and even Sony recently admitted it (Spider-man).

All in all, I am very hopeful for Disney shepherding the Star Wars Universe. They know they will eventually get all the money back, just shilling out what they already now own. They're a business, though, and will want to make the money back at a higher rate, and will this make sure they hit all demographics. This will mean some cheesy kid books, cartoons, games, as well as marketing to the 30-50 year old fans.

No one is perfect if Disney makes TFA a looklike the swamps of Dagobah that's was the risk they took, but if it impresses critics well the anticipation of the second movie will cause excitement.

Disney already pissed me off by stopping the clone wars to make rebels. They were gonna remake episode 3 as a finale!!! I also wanted to see the bad batch storyline finished. I also wanted them to at least continue from where they left off in rebels. Personally I don't like the art style or story in rebels but I'm glad they brought a few badass characters from the clone wars. Furthermore, the finale of season two in rebels was very, VERY well made as they made it very emotional for all the clone wars and Star Wars fans in general. I'm happier with Disney now because episode 7 was a decent movie, even though they spent a TON of money on it. I hope they keep the momentum for the Star Wars anthology films with Han Solo and boba fett. Also, I really hope they don't make rouge one super kid friendly.

Now for Star Wars games. Two companies were gonna make epic games. One was playing as boba fett. It was going to be rated m however dosney did not want mature content as they wanted to appeal to children, therefore cancelling it. Made me kinda pissed again. The second game was about darth maul and how he became sith etc. that would have been amazing but Disney also vetoed that idea.

I was really sad they ended the clone wars as they already scripted the next 2 seasons!!! I wanted to see how it ended. I loved how they were following the canon storyline. The clone wars featured huge battles and showed the dangers of war amazingly. Watch the battle of geonosis in the clone wars show. It was a great representation of the casualties in the war. In rebels it's just a rag tag group of young kings trying to fight Vader. I mean wtf?! I really hope they step it up for season 3

It has been four months since The Force Awakens was released. I think the answer is no. Rebels has been pretty good, I've heard a lot of good things about the comics (I haven't personally read them yet), and The Force Awakens was amazing and makes me excited to see where the trilogy goes and what happens to our new characters. And, from what we have seen, Rogue One is shaping up to be amazing as well.

Star Wars is in very good hands.

They weren't going to remake Episode III, they were going to show the last event before Anakin and Obi-Wan went off to Coruscant to rescue Palpatine (i.e., the beginning of Revenge of the Sith).
And from what we've heard and seen, Rogue One isn't going to be super kid friendly. To be honest, none of the films are:
In release order, we had a man getting his windpipe crushed by main villain (and the sound effects have always been brutal here), two burnt corpses, a main character getting tortured (set-up only shown) a destroyed planet, a major supporting character get killed, another main character getting tortured (set-up shown, screams of pain heard), a character getting frozen in carbonite with it not being clear if he would be saved, several characters are eaten by a rancor (which a main character almost being eaten), main characters almost roasted alive and eaten by teddy bears, yet ANOTHER main character being tortured (fully seen), trade negotiations, child slavery, another major supporting character death, multiple assassination attempts (one of which included the death of a decoy), death (and possible implied rape) of a supporting character, main character massacring an entire village and showing ZERO remorse, main characters being attacked by vicious animals in a gladiatorial style arena, person beheaded in front of son, about 50 or so dead Jedi, another beheading, however you would describe how Grevious died (I dunno), two Jedi quickly murdered before you can process it, the (near) complete and merciless massacre of the Jedi which includes THE MURDER OF SEVERAL CHILDREN BY THE MAIN CHARACTER, the complete and merciless massacre of the Separatist Council, the main character (Force) choking his pregnant wife, the main character being severely burned (and that is really good burn makeup, by the way), a main character dies shortly after giving birth, murder of an old man, entire village massacred (again...what is it with Dark Side Skywalkers?), major supporting character is tortured (off-screen) and mind raped (again, off-screen...mostly), intense vision which covers a massacre AND abandonment by family, another planet being destroyed (though this time, we SEE the horror on the people's faces instead of having Obi-Wan tell us), and a beloved character being murdered by own son.
Star Wars may be viewed by the whole family, but it sure as hell isn't "super kid friendly".

Honestly, at this point Disney doesn't take a particularly hands on approach with Star Wars and LucasFilm. A good comparison is how they've handled Marvel so far. With Marvel they knew that the people in charge knew what they were doing, so they left things mostly as they were. The biggest difference that fans saw at Marvel after Disney's acquisition was that they suddenly had a lot more money and resources to make their films. From a creative standpoint though, Marvel stayed pretty much the same as they were before. If you have an issue with Marvel, blame Marvel, not Disney.

The same reasoning largely applies to Disney and LucasFilm. With LucasFilm Disney has remained largely hands off, letting Kathleen Kennedy largely run the ship(just as Feige does at Marvel). Ms Kennedy has in turn put Star Wars in the hands of the writers and directors, even forming the LucasFilm Story Group which is made up of people who both knew and deeply respect George Lucas and his overall vision of Star Wars, who in turn help guide all aspects of Star Wars going forward. Of course Disney expects them to keep making material on a regular basis, but what company doesn't expect their investment to keep bringing in profit?

Just as with Marvel, if you don't like how LucasFilm is handling Star Wars, your blame should largely be directed at LucasFilm, not Disney.

IN MY OPINION...(I know from experience working directly with Lucasfilm for my movies) Disney is very conservative but they always have a plan...Disney has always maintained that LFL will operate as independently as marvel and their other properties but the most they would be guided would be their distribution and paychecks.

So far Lucasfilm has benefited from Disney's experience with Marvel and Pixar. In the past there were rumblings that there was some friction over control, but Feige has sort of taken the reigns and proven to the Disney board that the person with direct creative control should be given a bit of a longer leash (Supposedly GotG and Ant-Man's success surprised many within the company). But in the end it all comes down to who they trust. You'd likely get very different answers from people within Marvel as to their working relationship with Disney depending on whether they work within film, Network, or streaming TV divisions. Each has had differing levels of control, with the worst meddling happening within Disney's attempts to have Marvel's success help prop up ABC.

But for now, Iger and the board see KK like the do Feige I think. They are in a honeymoon period coming off TFA. But Disney is a slave to the stock price. If Rogue One disappoints at the box office, some of that freedom could disappear very quickly.

The other thing to watch here will be Disney's search for their new CEO. With Iger scheduled to depart at the end of next year, and his seeming replacement ousted over some theme park debacles, that succession will likely determine how friendly these relationships are going forward. Iger is a Wall St dream, but he has also slowly learned over the years that the film divisions work best with limited meddling. That won't necessarily be true of the next CEO. Unless of course the rumors of Kennedy herself taking the job end up being true. But a move like that would take the kind of balls Disney hasn't had in decades.

The thing with KK, though, is that she's not easily replaceable once her contract is up as far as we know. She was hand picked by GL himself and he would be a good fit for replacing Bob if it comes to that. However, I do think that KK doesn't have the necessary skill set YET to head Disney unless it's a simple power play but she is easily building up to it I will admit...The fact of the matter, in my opinion, is that KK isn't leaving LFL until 2021 at the earliest.

Yes, those would be the balls I was referring to. It would take some serious (and uncharacteristic) outside of the box thinking for Disney to return to the model of having a Creative at the top. Not unprecedented, but unlikely given their current behavior. I could see them doing it, if they felt their brand needed a refresh, and putting someone like KK in charge would give the impression to the stockholders that they were redirecting focus towards creative output. But with ESPN's freefall, and their issues with the Chinese government around Shanghai Disneyland, I doubt the board will put someone with little CEO experience in charge.

But from what I've heard, KK is the most likely of the creatives to get the spot (maybe Alan Horn as well) , as she is widely respected across the industry and seen as someone who could rise above being a "mere studio head". So, if they go that route, KK would seem the most likely choice over more fanboy wish fulfillment types like Lasseter or Feige whose names have also been thrown around.

At this point, with Iger's bid to move the Chargers to LA squashed by the NFL I wouldn't be incredibly shocked if he re-extends his term. But buzz seems to indicate that the board is concerned the company is growing stagnant and is looking for outside blood to come in and refresh the drive within the mouse house.

I have a lot of knowledge being a previous guy at Disney and kl isn't anywhere near Disney compared to Alan horn though id see them phlogiston an apple and hiring an outside person altogether. Because Disney goes that opposite or hires strickly internally

I'm just repeating what I've heard. And from what I've heard, of all the fanboy wish fulfillment the long shots who have been bandied about, KK has the most respect within the board. She reports to Horn now, but that doesn't prevent her from getting promoted outside of that chain of command for a couple years as she gets prepped for the spot. Like what was happening with Staggs before he was ousted.

But like I said above, this is not the likely scenario. The most likely scenarios are an outsider with previous executive experience (Cheryl Sanberg has been mentioned frequently), then Iger remaining, then promoting someone from inside. So, its mostly moot. But if they go with an outsider, or stick with Iger I would not be shocked if KK replaces Horn if he opts to go elsewhere after the CEO change.

But to get back to my original point, outside of the very unlikely chance of KK becoming CEO, the state of Lucasfilm within Disney will likely be very different in 2 years, for better or worse. So, even if they are autonomous now, that doesn't mean they will continue to be.

Kevin's contract is also close to ending and I'd rather see him at the head in my opinion as Marvel has an office already on The Disney Lot although it's not HUGE but is there any knowledge of KK being on the 'Board at Disney?

KK is not in the board. But if I remember correctly Lucas has a vote even though he is not an active member of the BoD. Could be wrong about that though.

I think he's pretty much the second lead with voting/non voting Class A & B Stock Optioms after Steve Jobs & possibly even The Walt Disney a family .

I don't know how Disney will handle the "STAR WARS" saga in the future. Right now, I do not believe they are doing a good job. I believe they are simply exploiting the sentimentality toward the franchise for cold, hard cash.

That's not a stride. That's a mistake. If Disney is going to adhere its STAR WARS movies to placate the fans, instead of engaging in original storytelling, the franchise is through . . . at least from an artistic viewpoint. Thanks to the Disney suits and J.J. Abrams, I feel they have already screwed up "THE FORCE AWAKENS". "ROGUE ONE" looks it might be a lot better (I hope so). But my gut feeling tells me that Disney will never make a STAR WARS movie better than the six ones made by Lucas.

Its more of a concept to Disney with the purchase of SW. the negative of SW with Disney now is that its not as dark and violent like before. also they can ruin SW with branching off the storyarc(basically the EPs) and make films like Rogue 1 and others. To me it just hard to accept a film like Rogue 1 cause it veers off the story its self. yes it shows the way they steal the plans but it doesnt factor in the characters. with TCW and Rebels series it gives you a connection to the timeline. characters like Maul, Ahsoka, Kanan, Vader(who plays alot in Rebels) makes the storyarc if SW more visible. with R1 you already know the outcome so just watching how they do it doesnt really make me excited for it, even though i do have tickets its just cause its a SW film and the love of SW makes it worth seeing.

Excellent words my friend. One of the most damaging things about TFA is the ridiculous amount of eye candy and fan service that just borders on absurd. I love cameos and to give a nod to fans by having Bossk in some place or seeing Boba Fett's Slave One flying by is one thing but making THE WHOLE MOVIE be fan service just ruins it. Many of today's fans don't care about these things and as long as Disney slaps a SW logo on it, they can give them a movie where Jack Black and Kyle Gas are a pair of heavy metal Jedi's and Pee Wee Herman is the Sith Lord who commands an animated talking chair and fans are ok with it and they say it's an awesome movie but I just can't swallow that sort of stuff. Seeing all the fan service and seeing Stormtroopers flying all over the place in huge explosions or conveniently wielding special equipment just for eye candy's sake is just too much.

Many things in the movie didn't make sense either and it makes me wonder if the writers were even paying attention or even care about SW. We have always known that the Stormtroopers are the elite soldiers of the Empire and there are other positions that are under that. Scanning Crew members, Imperial Gunners, Technicians ect all cover this but how is it possible to digest that the First Order has Stormtrooper units who are supposed to be even better than those used by the Empire but Finn, who was trained FROM CHILDHOOD to be an elite soldier, cleaned toilets all his life? For real? Shouldn't there be a sanitation department for this type of job? I just can't seem to picture Phasma working with her troops in the ships cesspool.

Then we have Maz Kanata. When you look at Maz, she's a likable character that's both wise and loving and it's real hard not to find her character to be real cool. From a story point of view however, Maz Kanata makes no sense. Just look at the role she played vs who she is. Maz is a pirate for crying out loud! And not just any pirate but one who sponsors many nasty lowlifes as well! Maz's castle is a hive of scum and villainy and some of the people she has sponsored are Sebulba, Ziro the Hutt, The Mandalorians and even Hondo Onaka as all of their flags are seen in her castle. This makes Maz one awesome and nasty pirate as she has to be someone big (not in size of course) to be able to run a safe haven for all these ruthless people yet when we get to meet Maz, she turns up to be this incredibly sweet and loving lady who cares for the well being of others and is worried about the state of the galaxy because the FO is evil and it must be stopped. So, you can mingle with a nasty vile slug like Ziro who is a criminal and who approves slavery, crime, extortion, drugs and who knows what but you think Snoke is a bad guy? If she's so concerned about the state of the Force, the galaxy and the evils that the FO do, shouldn't she start giving an example by cleaning her own house which is filled with trash (the living kind)? You love and care for the well being of others yet your house is home to ruthless criminals? That's just bad writing on Disney's part.
