SPECULATION Will the green lightsaber show up in IX?

I agree. As much as I would love to see the green lightsaber pop back up again, Rey has absolutely no reason to return to Ahch-To — it would probably be a waste of screentime anyways because the Caretakers didn’t like her to begin with, so JJ would probably have to devote time to her trying to make them give it to her. Not to mention if there’s a time jump in this film, it’s very likely that Rey already has a new lightsaber by the time the film begins — whether she’s reconstructed the blue Skywalker one or crafted her own.

 

I doubt it. I imagine this episode will copy the beats of the related OT movie like the past two sequel movies. She will construct a new lightsaber and return to her desert planet. I do not really see the point of having the green saber.

Any Star Wars themed toilet must loudly proclaim, as soon as you approach it, "Stay on target, Stay on target."

 

Maz could have the green one too. Seems likely she has more than one old Saber laying around.

 

In our real world, we did all know that SW was returning on Skellig Michael Islands for 15 days of filming for episode 8.
There's no such rumors about that with episode 9...

 

The green lightsaber is on Ach-to. It was implied that the Caretakers have it in the TLJ novelization. The novel is canon except for in instances that it contradicts something in the movie. There is nothing in the movie that contradicts the saber being on Ach-to

 

That’s what I’m saying.

However, I also think The Last Jedi novelization was written with the intention of giving lots of freedom to whoever was doing Episode IX — as I’m not sure if Colin still would’ve been in charge of it when the novel was being written or if they were searching for someone else. I think that’s why they added in the bit about Leia having experienced more serious damage than the movie let on after she was blasted into space — that way, it gave whoever was doing Episode IX lots of options for her character, given Carrie Fisher’s death.

So, it could really go either way. I feel like at some point or another, the green lightsaber being on Ahch-To will be revisited, but I don’t know that they’ll do it in Episode IX, just because there needs to be a reason for Rey to return to the island and as of right now, I can’t see her having a legitimate reason that would benefit the story in any way.

 

Rey will definitely look for Jedi lore and for parts to fix the Skywalker saber. Luke's green one would come in handy then.

 

My bet: Luke put it in R2 who will reveal turn it over to Rey at a crucial time in Ep.IX

 

That would be cool and also a throwback to ROTJ. Currently it is implied that the saber is still on Ach-to but if this happened it would trump the TLJ novel just like the Rey and Poe meeting in TLJ trumps their meeting written in the TFA novel.

This is pretty much the only reason I could see her returning to Ahch-To, and even then, she’d need a pretty good reason for doing so in the movie. I don’t know how much time they’re going to want to devote to her doing that when they could easily explain that she returned to Ahch-To at some point in between Episode VIII and Episode IX instead.
