    Good evening.

Just a little tidbit I received, nothing Earth shattering. As usual, MINOR SPOILERS ahead just in case you missed the spoiler flag for this thread.

Luke Skywalker has been missing a little over ten years at the beginning of Episode VII. Before he went missing he was training a much younger Daisy to be a Jedi, in her early teens. The reason she was the only apprentice he took in the 35 years since ROTJ because she was an orphan when he found her and she knew nothing about the Jedi, making her a clean slate.

What I've heard is that, similar to Adam Driver's character being a self-proclaimed Dark Lord because of his abilities with the Force, the same is true of others in the galaxy claiming to be Jedi. I do not know the specific reason these Jedi-poseurs have to call themselves Jedi. The only relevance it has on the back story and overall story of Episode VII is that these poseurs have convoluted the galaxy's perceptions of the Jedi and the Force. Daisy was the best candidate for Luke to train because most the rest of the galaxy's candidates have been mislead or their parents forbade the training. She had no idea what the Force and the Jedi were, only that she had special abilities no one else had. She's a clean slate and has no preconceived notions of the Force.

I really hope I'm making sense. Writing this on very little sleep and im starting to fade. If anything is unclear I apologize and I will answer any questions as best I can.

Also, off topic, just watched the latest Star Wars Rebels and it was great!

Great information (as usual), Kyle. Thanks for this little tidbit.

Has there been any information from your source(s) why Luke went missing, if he was in hiding, or held captive (and if held captive, by whom)?

If I remember correctly, Kyle said that Luke was being held captive and possibly being tortured.

This post seems to confirm several speculated points:

    1. The Jedi are mistrusted and there is no reformed Jedi Order, or other similar organized institution

    2. Daisy lives in an abandoned AT-AT after Luke's capture (possibly her original home) unaware of her Master's whereabouts, and hiding from oppression from any possible threats

    3. She finds Luke's lightsaber and realizes that he may still be alive, even though she was unable to sense him

    4. Leia probably hides her force abilities as well

    5. Rescue mission for Luke

Kyle, or anyone else, please feel free to correct or add anything that I am misinterpreting.

Wasn't there a rumour that Luke had gone 'missing' because he was off on a long quest searching for some primeval wellspring of evil he couldn't easily pinpoint but felt its malevolent lurking presence behind changes in the balance of the Force? He possibly discovered some startling revelations but found himself unable to act against them, presumably some form of restraint or capture preventing him from being proactive? His absence would allow lesser Force-users to gain prominence in the Force power-vacuum, including Driver's aristocrat?

    Great stuff, well done!

So the question now: why is Luke being held captive and by whom? Can't be the Sith or (by extension) Imperials, as they'd most likely have exterminated him..wouldn't they? I speculate on this in the Campbell's Monomyth thread. I won't repeat that here -- but I like where this may be going. :)

I mentioned in an earlier post he was captured by the villain, somehow pushed to the brink of the dark side, and then went into hiding after his escape. Think of it as he got his ass kicked and is hiding out either trying to regroup or hide from the villain. Also, he believes the villain woke up the dark side within him and he is afraid of what he is capable of. He never goes back to his apprentice because he believes she is safer by anonimity.

Key plot point I've touched on is the villain knows Luke had an apprentice and when we meet Driver he has been tasked with hunting down said apprentice to turn them.

I just read part of your thread (well done btw, I hope you consider a part 2), and it seems that both you and TIDMADT agree that Luke dies at the end in a form of self-sacrifice. If that is the case, the killer of Luke, her father/mentor, would fuel her motivations for the next two films, as well as the reformation of the Jedi Order.

We still have very little evidence on who captured Luke or why though. Leia probably meets with the Hutts to see if they had something to do with it. They might play a small role in his capture.

The grave robber - exactly what is he really up to? How does this Ancient Fear get awakened and what is its identity?

I don't believe Luke is going to die. Based on a version of the script my source saw, there is to be a scene towards the end of the between Luke and Force-ghost Yoda. I posted about it in this forum a couple months ago, but I don't think anyone believed me. No reports of Frank Oz in the film so far, but I'm just going by what I was told. If the scene was filmed, then I don't see Luke dying. My money is on Han

I think I remember your Yoda post, Kyle ... Yoda informs Luke that Daisy is fated to become his apprentice (for the first time, or resuming where they left off)?

There are rumours Luke dies and rumours he doesn't, but undergoes some dramatic change or trauma by the film's conclusion ... or perhaps he has already been brutalised by events leading to his captivity and makes some terribly skewed judgements later in the narrative?

Not sure if I have imagined this, or it has been suggested already, that Luke decides to teach Daisy elements of the Dark Side to better equip her to understand the nature of her enemies, which would definitely be classed as a controversial (or tragic) tactical decision by Luke?

Not sure I agree with this... however, without knowing your sources, or how secure they are, I can't discount it either...

However, the things I think I disagree with are probably details, and I think I could go with the overall arc of it... gonna give it a like, good post!

A lot of these rumours, as I think Kyle alluded to previously, were present in early drafts but have been retroactively shunted into backstory, setting up the paradigm for the sequel trilogy but not overtly explored on celluloid.... lots of meat for spin-off novels and comics etc.

I really hope Luke doesn't die. I really feel like we need him atleast until the end of Episode 8, at the bare minimum. Luke has to pass on what he has learned and attempt to rebuild the Jedi Order. He can't do that with only 1 half trained apprentice in 35 years. If that's the end of Luke's character arc, then it's going to be a serious letdown.

I think the best thing for the story and for the future of Star Wars is to keep Luke around for a while and have him rebuild the Order. I think it is logical that Han/Chewie/The Falcon will make the self-sacrifice, but we shall see.

We didn't want Ben to die either, but he had to... and even in death he was a prominent character

    great OP as always @Kyle

if Luke's missing (or been missing) for 10 years at the beginning.. then this stuff is all back story and technically not in the film. So it's part of the crawl? the crawl doesn't normally go into that kind of detail... 4 odd short paragraphs saying this is the state of the galaxy and X is happening on planet X - queue flyby at X planet.

and daisy's NOT a solo/skywalker? you may have lost me with this one Kyle.. i need more convincing. :)

Well this begs the question: Who are Daisy's real parents? Or was she made in a lab somewhere?

Seems to big the big reveal, likely tied to the real villain, given this tidbit.

Unless her dad is Luke. But that'd be pretty underwhelming.

Ridley being an orphan could lead into a reveal of who her parents where/are. She may not be overly strong in the Force like the Skywalkers, unless she is a Skywalker for some reason. But not knowing of the Force like Luke in ANH could leave her open to lust for the power of the darkside.

Why did Luke take 10 years to find an apprentice?

Here's my issue with this "plot point." Many posters on this board seem to feel that making "Character A" Count Dooku's descendant, or "Character B" Han and Leia's offspring is quote "shrinking the galaxy." But lets consider the logic of what Kyle is now positing. In a galaxy of billions of worlds and trillions of sentient life forms, Luke's missing Lightsaber happens to wind up in the same general area of the same planet as his (according to Kyle) former padawan! This is literally a one in several trillion possibility. What is mathematically more likely...that the kids of powerful families on either side of a major multi-generational conflict continue that fight? Or that Luke's lightsaber floats through space and lands half a mile from his old apprentice?

In addition, she seems completely confused as to just what the hell this lightsaber thing is! If she really was Luke's apprentice then she absolutely would know that the primary weapon of the Jedi was this awesome laser sword before her. She wouldn't need to bring it to a half-drunk cyborg, or a mini blue alien to get answers. And why would she need to discover an old lightsaber to go searching for her former master?? Shouldn't she be doing that anyway? It just feels really clumsy and convoluted and not at all logical to me.

Generally, I have really enjoyed Kyle's posts, but as more information/ artwork has leaked out that is outright contradictory to his original posts, I find myself with questions.

He probably trained Leia, had a family, and trained an apprentice before Daisy.

We have to remember that Kyle's sources come from reading the script and Kyle has spoken on that before, stuff like Ridley being Luke's apprentice can be revealed in story, doesn't have to be the crawl.

The only thing I don't like is Ridley being Luke's former apprentice but that's just because I personally don't like that plotline, I accept that that will be the plot though.

I like this faux Jedi, I hope they kept that in the script, could be interesting.
