Harrison Ford's son is a professional chef not a wannabe actor.

I don't want another Rey. I'm not that fond of the one from "THE FORCE AWAKENS". I don't want a Mary Sue for the Indiana Jones franchise, as well.

I don't want Shia back as Indy's replacement; honestly, I didn't totally hate him until the very end with Indy's hat. He's just not made out of the same stuff as Ford/Indy, so he feels forced as Indy's son. However, imagine this:

Indy still teaches and Mutt is his TA. One of Indy's students, say Chris Pratt, takes a shine to Indy and Indy to him as he sees him as the son he should have had instead of Mutt. (Insert family drama with Marion.) Whatever adventure the movie is about starts, and Indy, Mutt, and Chris Pratt are all in the thick of it. They really play up the real son vs wanted son aspect, maybe even making Shia and Chris argue over "who's Short Round," but both ultimately prove their worth in their own ways. The finale happens and Shia dies; Chris and Indy return home; Marion and Indy are heartbroken, maybe she even leaves him. The trauma tears apart Indy and Chris, making Indy the estranged mentor to Chris Pratt's young, swashbuckling adventurer. The franchise has come full circle, and can continue under the new lead (again, it doesn't have to be Chris Pratt, just using him as a placeholder).

Nobody will ever be able to replace Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones but its inevitable. A Chris Pratt Indiana Jones would be very different but I think he would be better than Shia LaBuef. His name is much easier to spell so thats a plus.

Also, that's what tomb raider is for, ehich, coincidentally will most likely have Daisy Ridley...however maybe if there is a female Indy then she could replace shia's character .

I think instead of replacing him that a spinoff will be much better where Indy isn't in it but either someone who has a direct relation to him or something of the like will be inspired...maybe a modern version of Indy like in present day tacklin g things like ISIS, billed as "the last great crusader" and is the last great descendant of Indy's that follows his example .

Interesting. But the thing is then they would have to drop the Indiana Jones in the title not a very likely Hollywood business move.

They've pretty much dropped SW for the SW SW spin offs and the MCU is totally related but in the same universal boundaries and so is DC so they wouldn't need "Indiana Jones" in the title but rather do some world building in this one to set up the future of the franchise if that's where it's headed .

Didn't LaBeouf piss Harrison Ford off by dissing the Crystal Skull, leading to him being referred to as a "F*cking idiot!?!" I say bring LaBeouf back for the first 30 seconds where he dies horribly in a freak ironing accident.

Not quite: Shia just said some stuff in the film could have been changed, but Ford thought he should be more supportive of the film.

Just re-watched KOTCS and Shia was actually just fine. While some of the stuff they had him do was atrocious (monkey swinging) he was completely adequate and actually kinda charming in the role. However, he isn't up to snuff for being a major player in the series going forward and Disney is well aware of this. While it's possible he might make a glorified cameo, I wouldn't expect much more.

The biggest problem with KOTCS was how overstuffed with superfluous characters it was. Mutt was more than enough, Ox was absolutely pointless and Mac was a travesty. A new Indy film should do just fine with Indy himself and a decent foil to do the heavy action lifting (as Mutt should have been in Indy 4). Other than that, KOTCS would've been OK had it not had absurdly unnecessary and poorly executed CGI. Honestly, as much blast as the nuked fridge and the Alien mcguffin got, those were the least of the movie's shortcomings and would likely have been overlooked had the rest of the film not been derailed by the aforementioned issues.

Acknowledge his existence at the start, and then flashback 30-40 years for the rest of the film, with someone who isn't Chris Pratt and is either an unknown or the new Han Solo playing Indy.

KOTCS doesn't exist in my eyes. But Spielberg won't ignore it completely.

I keep telling my self that I don't really care...But I think Shia would be fine in the movie. He's a good actor. But after seeing how OLD Harrison is in TFA, and the flop that was Indy 4, I'm not sure I wan't to see another Indiana Jones. Maybe in like 30 or 40 years, they can reboot...but I'm just not that interested. I've got 3 good Indys and one not-so-good Indy already...

And my opinion on the Chris Pratt as indy is "NO!" Just put him in Uncharted. I like CP. I thought he was great in Parks and great in GotG...but not so much in Jurassic World, and the thought of him (or anyone for that matter) playing Indy is as bad or worse than the idea of some random guy playing Han.

...But, all that said, who knows, It might actually turn out good. I'll be the first to admit I was wrong when that day comes. As for Shia; I could take him or leave him.

    Sure. Why not?
Another way to go about it is to set the film in two timeframes; one 'present day' (probably the sixties) where
Indy (and Mutt) discover something that cues flashbacks from the late twenties, early thirties were Indy is played by a younger actor who could then take over the franchise in the inevitable sixth film.

Hehe. Hey, it's not that 'original' an idea since they already had River Phoenix play a young Indy in Last Crusade.
I'm willing to bet they will do something similar to introduce us to the new Indy actor that will take over from Ford in the future.

Not saying that's necessarily a good idea, but Disney wont pass up all those Indy-dollars if the new one is a success.
Let's wait and see. I was once in the 'no Mel no Max' camp. Then fury road happened. One of the best in the series. Go figure!

I had no problem with Mutt. He wasn't the problem with the movie. The excessive CG and deciding to go the sci fi route were the problems
