Nope. His character was annoying as hell IMO. I would love it if he we're NOT a part of the next installment in any way.

Not sure if this is a reflection of how much I disliked Crystal Skull, don't care for the character of Mutt or just my lack of enthusiasm for the next Indy; but I voted I don't really care. :(

If Indy's son being in the film fits the story, sure. I don't have an issue with Shia, nor do I have any with Indy IV.

Too bad the minority who don't like either are so vocal in their disdain that it has the effect of falsely inflating their numbers.

I'd bring Shia back. Shia was amazing in Fury, and if he applies this sort of method acting to renew, improve and overall better Mutt, while being a sidekick to his old pops, that would be awesome to see. I myself am a fan of continuity. THE MAN PULLED A TOOTH OUT OF HIS MOUTH FOR THE MOVIE! He's really a dedicated guy now vs. 2009.

I say bring him back. I actually thought they were passing the role off to him at the time since he was somewhat at the peak of his popularity after Transformers and what not despite what one may feel about that franchise. I thought he did fine as Mutt and I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a hint that Mutt would be picking up the mantel. I know I may be the minority there, but Harrison's getting old and he can't be running around being Indy forever. I'd rather they pass the mantle off to his offspring or someone else, but since they've introduced his offspring, I'd feel kind of weird with some random person becoming the new Indiana Jones similar to how I felt about Creed. I liked Creed, don't get me wrong, but I know Rocky has a son he was training for boxing in a couple of the movies. Maybe not the best comparison example, but there it is for me.

I thought Mutt did fine. I just didn't like the story of Crystal Skulls and thought they were trying to hard to play on the 2012, UFO, Mayan, Crystal Skull, and end of the world stuff that was rising about that time. Just me and a few other people, maybe. I thought the story was a reach and I actually took some comfort in Mutt's character and his interaction with Indy a bit.

I know Shia has sort of gone off his rocker off screen, but to the best of my knowledge, he never brings that craziness with him on screen. Like ZebroGodilla said, he did perfectly fine in Fury. And to the best of my knowledge, you don't really hear people complaining about working with him despite his off-screen antics.

Still, either way, I'd rather have Mutt back. I loathe it when a storyline introduces a character and then magically explains said character away for whatever reason. If, for some reason, real world problems such as scheduling and what not get in the way, so be it. In any case, I'm of the minority wondering why we're doing another Indy movie with Harrison Ford anyway. The man's getting old. Time to pass the torch or do a reboot. If they don't do a reboot, pass the torch to a younger actor who's related to Indy. If they didn't want to invoke a potential son taking over, I'd rather they had introduced a quality apprentice who looked up to Indy and could pick up the torch.

I could see Indiana Jones the Third return in a sort of extended cameo (yes, in case you forgot :( ), like Sallah in the original trilogy.

i didn't hate Mutt. But Spielberg never sold me on him either. You got the idea that they were eager to prove that this kids got the chops to be the next indiana jones, but when you put Shia next to the real Indiana Jones, there's no comparison...they're different people, different styles. And so you end up getting this feeling that they detected that part way through the process and scaled back. it was non-comittal and helped to sabotage the character for the audience.

at the end of the day, for continuity i'd say if they can make it work, bring him in for a small role.

as far as i can see it, Spielberg doesn't want to have anyone else but harrison in the role, but soon they'll have no choice. I don't want a "reboot" but I'd be ok if they just went the bond route and re-cast, and had the stories take place at various points in history.

Chris Pratt as a 15 year later Shia could make sense since they have a sort-of similar look .

What we really need is a twenty-something unrelated adventurer to take the reins of the franchise :).

I definitely wouldn't recast him. Give him a minuscule role or find a way to write him out, maybe, if the hate would be that severe (I didn't feel good or bad about him one way or the other). But actor-character consistency in a series like this is important. Re-casting within a single continuity can work (see Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight), but the cases where it's believable have been few and far between for me.

I don't know that they need Indy's son. They could base it on some Cold War storyline then let the series go. He just needs a good sidekick.
