Disney and the lack of creativity...?

Discussion in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' started by John Crichton, Feb 25, 2015.

?

Do you feel Disney is relying too much on Ralph McQuarrie's concept art?

  1. No. They are justified in using design influences from the original series.

  2. Yes. They are copying everything done in the 70s/80s since they cannot create anything on their own

Using Ralph's artwork for episode VII is the best case scenario.

Maybe this should be a new thread but...

What is your favorite or most obscure piece of McQarrie artwork you've seen?

Definitely should be another thread. Maybe you can have a mod split it off or just start it up now and we can continue there. I would definitely be interested in seeing the pieces people post up. :)

Without a doubt, and I must admit that people complaining about the use of one of the all time master's concepts THAT HAVEN'T BEEN USED YET, is beyond retarded.

EU out the window?.....I don't think so. Not in terms of design concepts anyway. Check out that stormtrooper helmet.

Can't see any specific design influence upon the Episode VII armour. Both are riffs on the OT Stormtrooper kit. The Zero-G helmet angle in that comic book cover is misleading - it's really quite a squat and wide design.

It doesn't really matter if the angle is misleading the initial design concept for the new helmet design could have easily been based off of the image on the cover. The shape of the mouth is very similar. Especially the notch at the top near the cheek. The TFA design just carried the notch into the eye lens. My point being they may not take things directly out of the EU but we may see designs that resemble and/or have roots in things we have see in the EU. I'm not saying this is a bad thing.
