Well I do have to give credit to the editing of the Force Awakens. And Lost was also very well edited.

I just watched The Martian and I'm wondering how it got best picture nomination. Well done but boring and full of stereotypes about the scientific comunity.

What do you mean? Lucas didnt edit ANH. It was Paul Hirsch, Marcia Lucas, Richard Chew who were nominated (and won).
However I think Lucas's best director oscar was robbed. We all know how hard it was to make ANH. But I guess directing a comedy-romance movie needs more skill according to the Academy. Annie Hall is a very good movie tho, but Lucas should've won that oscar (considering he was also robbed with American Graffiti).

To be clear, George Lucas didn't win for editing; Star Wars; A New Hope. His wife did get the Oscar but from non fiction books & articles of the era, I recall GL doing a lot of uncredited editing on Star Wars, ;) .
Francis Ford Coppola & other peers of Lucas always said he was a talented film editor.

I'd add too the editors of TESB didn't win a Oscar in March 1981. :(
Wikipedia lists all the nominees & winners of that year.

I left TFA thinking it needed 20-25min more to be clear & explain more details.

I was the only one of my group not overly impressed with the movie and was scratching my head over why the audience I saw it with was cheering during the closing credits. I only gave it a 7 out of 10.

I came across an article from Bustle by this writer expressing her indignation that Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver were not nominated for Oscars. She was of the opinion that biases towards genre flicks are the reasons why those two did not get the recognition they deserved. She was serious too. Of course from he rpicture she looked to me as if she recently graduated high school so maybe that explains her naivete.

I can't believe The Force Awakens did not get a nomination for Costume Design. I really thought this movie would take that award easy.

I think it deserves all 5 nominations but unfortunately it won't win neither one. (beaten by Ennio Morricone 's score in best OST and by Mad Max in the technical categories)

Marcia Lucas edited the original theatrical cut of A New Hope (ANH) which the original first generation fans of '77 adored so much. Like her ex-husband George, she trained as an editor and was largely responsible the fixing the messy disjointed pre-release first cut into the legendary film that fans went nuts about in the late 70's. Its very sad that since their divorce, Marcia Lucas seems to have been erased from Star Wars history and folklore. ;)

pacing issue. Why would you want all those details. ANH didn't offer all the details. At that time people were complaining they didn't understand blast of what the senate, the emperor, the empire, the moffs and the rebellion was all about. They asked questions like: why is Obi Wan conveniently living in the desert close to Luke.

A nom for Best Editing is usually exclusively for Best Picture nominees. I wonder how close TFA was to getting nominated for the big one.

funny...i left thinking it needed 72-80 hours more just because i never wanted it to end.

i could have sat in the theatre for days watching it. waiting two years for more is cruel and inhuman. Disney is the devil.

There could be so many reasons as to WHY she was erased whether to do bitterness. Sadness, or what ?

I think someone ows me an apology here... and has to change the "Pessimistic" tag to the post quoted above... I wasn't pessimistic, but realistic. I loved TFA but Mad Max was technically superior. And here in Italy we all knew that Morricone couldn't lose this year!!
