Saoirse Ronan said that her audition was about taking a lightsaber out of a bag and inspecting it and not knowing what it was. I've wondered if the concept was still in play for the movie, where Rey takes the lightsaber out of BB-8 and does that same thing. Like Luke fiddled with R2-D2 and the hologram of Leia appeared.

 

I agree there is more scenes that will take place in Jakku, caves etc.

Rey appears to have a mysterious past. What JJ said about leaving out last names, her isolation, self reliance and developed skills with such an unorthadox weapon. I've heard a lot of speculation that she may have been a Jedi in some capacity. There was a rumor promising a KOTOR-esque twist, and I really like the idea that Rey may have a darker past, either knowingly redeemed or amnesic. A dark Jedi, not one of Luke's students or whatever. I think a badass I-used-to-be-your-worst-nightmare would fit nicely with Poe's dashing rogue and Finn's sort of wide eyed want-to-be-a-good-doer.

I've seen speculation elsewhere that Rey's position between Light and Dark on this poster represents her falling to the Dark Side in Episode VIII.

But why would they represent an Episode VIII struggle on an Episode VII poster?

The way she's situated, it almost looks like Finn and Kylo Ren fight over her.

 

Not necessarily. They even made sure to situate Han off on the side of the Light. Rey's position straddling both worlds is the most prominent thing about the poster, and COULD be some sort of clue.

However, it COULD simply be a reference to the amount of time she allegedly spends with both Kylo Ren (during her capture and interrogation) and Finn (on Jakku and on Takodana) in the film, according to MSW's rumors.

I posted this under lightsaber pike but I think it applies here as well.

If you are trying to keep Rey's identity a secret you would never show her with a lightsaber until after the movie is out. Further, the packaging for her toy should not be considered accurate until after the movie comes out even though it implies she lived on the desert planet her whole life or most of her life. Because on the packaging for Padme in TPM (the stuff that came out before the movie but only about 6 weeks before the movie) it had Padme listed as Padme Neberrie and says "as handmaiden to the young Queen Amidala of Naboo. Padme Naberrie is a trusted advisor and privy to many important state secrets." This is clearly misleading as she was the Queen.

I have said this before every Star Wars movie has had some on in disguise in it. In all of the movies someone says I have a bad feeling about this and some one is in disguise or not who they appear to be.

So if you want to keep who Rey is a secret ala Padme you don't put a lightsaber in her hand in any promo material.

She is front and center because she is the main lead charcter. It is meant to put the focus on her. I think that is the sole purpose of her positioning.

 

That's what I thought. To me, front and center means 'lead character', not that fact someone is holding a lightsaber.

I see Rey and Finn as being primary-lead/secondary-but-still-important-lead in the same way as Luke/Han and Anakin/Obi-wan.

The music from the SDCC reel was confirmed as not being written by Williams. The Korean music might be Williams but it's hard to tell due to the presumably added trailer instrumentation and the extremely short length. We probably won't get out first real look at the score until October with the trailer.

 

She has been front-and-centre in pretty much all publicity material. It's about time we had a beautiful female protagonist in these movies.

I've been thinking. With Luke supposedly taking on the Yoda-like mentor role in VIII, I think one thing he'll teach her will be redeeming Kylo, possibly her brother. When Anakin was redeemed, it was too late for him so maybe Luke tries to tell Rey that Kylo can be redeemed but try to do it sooner. Then in IX, Rey manages to do it and they defeat the great evil (Snoke?) together.
