RUMOR General Star Wars: The Force Awakens News & Rumors Thread

This is not in reference to you (I can't stress that enough) but I can't understand how some members of the online community (namely on reddit, but I've seen a few on here) really cling to rumours/alleged leaks as if they're absolute fact to the point where if there's any legitimate evidence to the contrary (think Kevin Smith re: Hamill) they'll insist that they're wrong. Even after it comes out that we've only seen imagery and themes from the first third of the movie. Why? Because a guy on the internet told you he has 'sources'? Is it that difficult to simply accept that we know next-to-nothing about this film?

Until December 16th anything classed as a rumour is pure speculation. It's fun speculation, but it should still be treated as such.

 

The more reliable sources suggest otherwise...
Peter Mayhew was in attendance at Star Wars Weekend, Disney World Florida, from the 16th to 18th of May, and then went straight to London after that, where he appears to have stayed until Filming started.
Although not much of a confirmation of anything, Harrison Ford was never seen in Abu Dhabi, but without Peter Mayhew in Abu Dhabi, things aren't looking good.
We know that Rey and Finn run to the Falcon on their own, while under attack from the First Order.
We had a scene in the Celebration teaser which backs up the idea that Han has been away from the Falcon for some time.
We also know that Rey flies the Falcon in atmosphere, on her own at some point in the film (SDCC video).

Putting all these facts together, it's very unlikely that Han and Chewie will show up on Jakku.

The biggest problem with Kevin Smith's mention of Hamill is that it conflict with confirmed facts, confirmed public appearances, confirmed shooting dates, and Mark Hamill's own tweets.

There's only a small 5 day window which Hamill could have taken time off to visit the set in Abu Dhabi... but his beard at that stage was pretty short. So unless they've filmed stuff where you don't see his beard, or it's just shorter, there's not a good chance of him actually doing any filming there.

 

Just because I have nothing else to do...5 days is plenty of time to fly in and do scenes. Peter Mayhew not being there isn't really evidence since he is really only playing Chewbacca 20-25% of Chewie's screen time. We only know Daisy and John were there because disney let us know, if they wanted to keep Harrison and Mark being there a secret they could. They probably weren't there but it is fun to ignore all the "known" facts and dream. Nothing but rumors and speculation till we see for ourselves.

That certainly doesn't give the impression the PT is off limits....

 

Those quotes kind of focus the lense we have aimed at the big picture. Someone is the child of the original three. And certain last names are unlisted because of this. We do the math, what do we get?

New details on Finn from site Cinelinx, confirming some speculation about the name, and also more interestingly shedding light on First Order Stormtroopers training with Lightsabers and shields.

I thought those were riot-control stormtroopers.

 

The ones that we have seen with the shields are. I don't know if I fully buy everything in the cinelinx article, interesting stuff, but the idea of all of the First Order troops training with light sabers seems kinda far fetched to me. I could more easily buy the idea of Phasma herself having light saber training and then teaching Finn if she actually takes him under her wing. Do we know how reliable the people at cinelinx are with this kind of thing?

 

Never heard of Cinelinx. Sounds like a bunch of malarky speculation.

 

The first time I seen Phamsa (months ago), I thought "Lightsaber would be awesome. It would reflect on the chrome!!"

 

I know, I know. Everyone's seen this a thousand times. But never hurts to gaze upon the RMQ goodness.
